In the song there's a back and forth between Gawr Gura (blue lyrics) and her dark persona Red Gura, the song is about her trying to find herself, what she wants to do, and overcome her fears and insecurities, but when she's trying to do it, Red Gura comes in and starts whispering all of that bad stuff to her, the insecurities, fears, anxieties she has, its a fight inside herself. And at the end she's able to break free and start doing what she wants to do (presumably being a Vtuber in Hololive). This is a very personal song to Gura, she has not done a very deep dive into the lyrics herself but she has expressed that the lyrics have a deep meaning to her life. I recommend you check out either Hakos Baelz - PSYCHO or Houshou Marine - Im Your Treasure Box
While she is a great singer, she doesn’t usually post original music. She sometimes does covers and she at least used to do karaoke quite a bit(I don’t watch that much of her anymore). She even did a Sabaton(Metal) song once.
You can read so deep into the lyrics even beyond the obvious. not just a darker personality, Gawr sort of represents her “previous life” as a content creator. She was actually a very successful RUclipsr with nearly a million subs prior to Hololive. A lot of her content revolved around crude humor and drinking, and when she first tried to make the switch to live-streaming, people would egg her on to act crazier and drink more. Really sent her into a spiral, and showing the fear that people won’t like her for who she is without that gimmick. And rather then outright rejecting it the message is more, this will always be a part of me but it is not all of me and to not be ashamed of either. Great stuff.
Her pre-Hololive content is a very important part of how she grew so fast. She was a meme queen and used that understanding of memes and light-hearted humor when she came to Hololive to quickly grow her audience. "Okay, Boomer", "I Turned a Bad Copypasta into a Bad Rap"(aka Rawr x3), the Country Road parody "Crunchyroll", her colab with/ghost writing for Belle Delphine's "I'm Back"(to the melody of Gooba by 5nitch9ine)... Her old/pre-holo stuff showed her talent. She just had to be more modest as a company hire. Not as much creative freedom as when she was an independent creator. But, as Tony said, what the company required from her(to tone down the memes and the bad behavior) was for the best, as she could now explore a more mature and serious side of herself. Even in this song, though, she admits... Without being that drunken gremlin first, she would not have grown to become who she is now. One of the(if not simply the) most successful VTuber(s) on the platform. We're gonna miss her when she's gone.
Gura is the most subscribed member of Hololive, with over 4M subscribers. She is from the English branch, like Calli. Unlike Calli, she doesn’t actually speak Japanese, but she’s a very capable language mimic who is able to sing it with what JP fans say is excellent pronunciation very capably in songs like this. She has a beautiful singing voice but is not super prolific in terms of official song releases. She does have a few other originals, most notably Q, her duet original with Calli. There’s also Blue Horizon, which is sort of in the style of an anime OP (she plays it at the start of her streams) and Sweet Appetite, another duet, this time with Hakos Baelz (another super talented member of Hololive’s English branch). Additionally, she has one other original that she debuted at a big live concert event last month, but that one has yet to be released on her channel yet. Beyond that, she has a decent number of covers, but a lot of them are duets on other members channels. Also, because she can pop off near studio quality vocals live on stream, a lot of fans like to just listen to clipped songs from her karaoke streams.
Gura has a great voice. Hololive's vocal powerhouse is Suisei, see her sing Stellar Stellar on The First Take. Also highly recommended is Unison by Marine.
FYI SunnyP reacted to Suisei's "Stellar Stellar" First Take back in February, so may the "Michizure" performance on the First Take or the live performance from the "Shout in Crisis" concert ("Shout in Crisis『みちづれ』ライブ映像") instead.
Gura's voice is so smooth, soft and angelic... No matter what song she sings, it always brings peace to my soul and huge smile to my face!❤ Gura may not have many originals, but you may search YT for "Gura Karaoke" and have ultimate relaxation time! :D She did a few cover collabs with fellow hololive members. Most beloved would be King - by Calli and Gura. Many oter holomems covered King but in my honest opinion, their duo did the most spectacular one. Their voices blend together so well, Calli's badass rapping and Gura's energetic, high pitches tone are bringing delightful mix. Welcome to the Rabbit Hole once again, enjoy your stay. :3
I love reflect and quite a few of the covers she is featured in. However, I maintain she has yet to release/ be featured in an official song that truly captures what her voice can do. Her karaoke streams are on another level. Also i recommend Calli & Suisei's original song Capsule
gura is a real 'perfectionist' with her music, she has talked about how she takes a lot longer than most of the hololive talents making sure her originals are as good as they can be. it results in some stunning music but overall a lower quantity than someone like calli. However, she does have a few others, the other two she has are Q which is a collab original song with Calliope Mori (yes, the title is jsut the letter Q) and her recent anime-style opening Blue Horizion is an original song that she also uses as her opening for her streams. She does a lot of karaoke though and they are always highly watched. I love her voice, especially because she can sing many different genres and make them all sound great. and i personally describe her voice as being 'sweet' and a fun piece of trivia for this song, Reflect, the opening and closing quote is in ancient byzantine, which is an old proto greek language that is hypothetically the language of atlantis, which is her lore background (that she's a sharkgirl from atlantis). it's a quote from Euripides
Hololive is very interesting indeed. One can think that because they are japanese idols they would only sing in a typical Jpop format, but no sir. Every member has their perks and I love them. Even more when they collab together, like Gura and Calli on the song "Q"
Hell yeah man, welcome to the world of hololive music! Algorithm worked its magic and found you in my recommend, hope you enjoy the other holo idols' songs n covers
She never comes out and says it but in my personal opinion, she was suffering from impostor syndrome. Fans literally raised her up to a level that she didn’t feel that she had lived up to. This song is her expressing how she was trying to keep her head up all while she was bombarded with inner thoughts saying she wasn’t good enough or didn’t belong in the position she was placed in by fans.
it's also worth noting that gura doesn't speak nihongo (japanese) at all other than like single words like "Baka," or "yabai." It's very likely she has no comprehension of what she is saying intuitively, just from what the MV producer told her it meant. Nihongo is actually really easy for english speakers to sing as long as they understand a few Romanji phonemes that are different than what would be found in English (ex. ai has the long I sound. ae has the long A sound. etc.)
Gawr Gura is mostly a funny, wise-cracking character who gets away with stuff "because I'm CUTE", but she's seriously a very good vocalist who, unfortunately, hasn't had as many solo productions under her belt. Besides "Reflect" she's done a good number of duets with other Hololive members, and most recently "Tokyo Wabi-Sabi Lullaby" as a solo song on the Hololive Channel. Another recent song with her and Houshou Marine (another fabulous vocalist) is on the Marine Channel called "Shinkaro", which has a 1980s-90s "City Pop" vibe. Besides these, there are still a LOT of Gawr Gura songs on other channels that focus on her karaoke/cover streams, which aren't archived on her channel for copyright reasons, and some of these downloaded clips are incredibly good. IMO, her best songs in this category are: "Cupid" by Fifty-Fifty, "Creep" by Radiohead, "Cups/When I'm Gone" by Anna Kendrick, "Beggin" by Måneskin, "Believer" by Imagine Dragons, and "Last Stand" by Sabaton.
A fun little trivia: Gawr Gura is an Atlantian, with Shark-like features on her character. Now here's the kicker, listen to the 1st 4 major beats. That is the most popular beats heard across the world known for the cult classic movie "Jaws."😂 When I heard those beats, I searched for the song online and took a listen again to compare. I reached on a realization that Reflect's melody is a dubstep remix of the Jaws theme song. 🤣 🤣 🤣 There is even some string sounds at the start of both songs! It is a match IMO.
Goomba is awesome unfortunately she only has a handful of tracks most of which are collabs but shes a beast with karaokes granted I dont know the rules on those for reactions

@@YoSunnyP yes, as others already responded, not only of hololive, she is the biggest "virtual youtuber" of all the platform and i think she deserves it, he knows very well how to entertain people, as others said, she started with lot of power, reaching numbers that any other vtuber had reached in a very short period of time
Your Gura pronunciation is good, but the Gawr part is Gar. And if you like her adlibs in this, try her collabs with Calli in their King cover or their Q original.
I Recomend kureiji Ollie's medley. You can pretty much pick a hololive member and they usually have at least one banger song. Some are more focused on music than others. And if you are willing to react to more then just music there are a ton of fun clips and other content worth reacting to as well.

What's also funny to note: Gura barely speaks any japanese, but she's really good at reciting and pronouncing it.
