Kayn as an assassin has very high potential in kill escape style of murdering, which is great, it's just that he doesn't have enough damage in his kit, and can easily be shutdown if not near a wall, rendering his E useless. Though as Rhaast he can surely pull up something with his W + Q combo + Ult Tanks if possible, personally if you pick assassin Kayn no matter what team they have, I won't hesitate to run it down mid.
Donut honestly i own kayne and he isnt all that complex, also kayne top works fine, its probably just the people you play with

40% winrate top, and don't throw that classic "He's a new champion" at me, I have never seen a new champion come out with such a winrate, yet he's being called "broken", when Kled came out he had a solid winrate, then it started inclining and reached 50% in less time than Kayn, his W was later on nerfed, still he is now sitting at 51% winrate. And this Kayn dude is straight up weak, especially assassin form, say whatever you want, Yes, he is VERY, VERY fun to play, I agree, but I don't see him being played in ranked...He's really just more of a fun guy to play in normals, it's really risky to play him in ranked :/
To counter your "He's new" theory, That doesn't mean anything, so I can't counter it, he's new means that nobody knows how to play him AND nobody knows how to counter him, so there's that.
