Create Angled or Slanted Text and Borders

How to create slanted, angled or sideways text in Excel. The example show a 45 degree orientation for headings. It almost looks like the cell is being split diagonally, but it's just a rotation of the text. There are also other ways to rotate the text direction such as making the text align vertically. The video finishes with formatting such as adding borders that are also angled.

I made the slanted lines, but I'm trying to keep the slanted lines without any text. So basically delete the "Heading1", but still keep the formatting so I can go in later and write what i want with a pencil. When I deleted the "Heading1" etc. it got rid of the slanted lines. Do you know how I can solve this?

Mine didn't work. I followed the instructions, but the borders remained vertical. Is it because they're merged cells or I can't apply special fills to them?

Yes, I tried different sequences, but I don't think it matters, only the text follows the new alignment. My Excel is 2007, maybe in a newer version it works. But it's ok, I unmerged them and it actually looks cooler with a black line going through the text, it's like an old alarm clock.

try to toggle or reset it back to normal, select both rows and try the orientation command from the Ribbon again

This worked fine when I did exactly what the video did. But what I wanted to do was have longer headings columns 1-10 and then shorter columns 11-13, so I merged two rows columns 1-10 and then tried to change the alignment to 45 degrees. But now the boarder is straight up horizontal/vertical. I can't change the borders to slanted orientation now because I have merged 2 cells. Most annoying tbh.

under the Home tab, Font group there is a border command icon that will let you adjust.

Not that i know of in Word. If you want to have this style of table in Word, create it in Excel, copy and paste as a picture into Word.
