With the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie coming out soon Carly Toffle and I wanted to collaborate together to bring you some awesome magical cakes!
Harry potter is one of my all time favourite books/movies. Its one of those stories you just can't get enough of. I am sooooo excited to finally make a Harry Potter themed cake!
To make my DIY Monster Book of Monsters Cake (Spider Book as I like to call it), I baked a 9x13 chocolate cake. I then crumb coated the cake with my yummy chocolate buttercream icing recipe. To make the pages I used my vanilla buttercream and the jagged side of a #789 piping tip. Piped on pages to three sides of the cake, then airbrushed them to look old and worn.
I moulded his gums and teeth out of fondant using gumpaste tools, and painted them with watered down food colouring. Placed those onto my cake with gel paste. I piped on a boarder with a number ten piping tip and his "Arms" using a number five piping tip. I made little fondant black eyes with yellow cat eye centers. For his fur I used a grass tip and just covered the entire top of the cake, and the spine of the book. Flattened out some of the fur and piped on my cake title "Monster Book of Monsters" with golden yellow buttercream.

You can tell it's one of your faves. I love it because it's scary and gross but SO DAMN COOL.
It's like those strawberries with teeth I've seen on youtube... they make me laugh but then freak me out at the same time. The teeth on them and yours remind me of those china dolls that smile and show teeth. ... I always think they're going to come alive in the night and kill me with those tiny teeth. Stupid because I'm 45 years old and know better LOL
Thanks!! I've seen those! I tried to make them once, but they didn't really turn out. LOL I used to have those dolls then as I got older put them away because they started creeping me out!
Sorry to keep bugging you but with the dolls.. my friend had older siblings and he was always getting into their stuff... especially his sister. Once he was climbing her bookshelf and was about to pop his head over the shelf one of those dolls was on... he must have jiggled the shelf because it blinked at him. He was so scared he let go and went on his ass on the floor and never went in again LOL
