We need to make a distinction about what we call chemo. Modern treatment of cancer involves a number of drugs some of which can be classified as chemo and some as targeted therrapy and some as molecular directed therapy. So the question about chemo necessary is not right. Once thing is certain, with modern treatment we can get good results without side effects and without hospitalization.
And for chemo time basically you are in day care if you take vrd + dara because dara take time but if you only take vrd so lenalidomide is oral medicine you take in home for bortezomib quickly gave you in the form of injection in your skin and dexa take not more then 15 minute

Initial treatment is 6month long after that what happen I don't know may be. Stem cell transplantation happen but cost is to much ,even my treatment run in AIIMS the initial cost is 6 month treatment is 45 lacs
Es if doctor only treat you with vrd (velcade, revelimid, dexamethason) treatment cost is low but daratumumab antibodies monoclonal cost is to much in India this single drug come in 2 lacs per 1200 mg in india

If the initial drugs stop working, we use different drugs in second and third line treatment.

That might be because they used Dara. We use Dara in high risk patients. Other drugs are very cheap.
