I loved this movie as a kid and I still have my VHS copy. I replayed that Porsche 928 scene countless times. When I finally “grew up” I bought a 928 which is in my garage right now 😎
I thought the mall kind of looked liked this mall that was near me in Illinois. It was called Hawthorn Mall. When I first watched Weird Science. The mall reminded me of that mall in the 1980’s.
Northbrook court has always had those ugly support columns all over. The used to have abstract art trying to hid them. I think the light fixture they have now is a way better look.
Out of all the malls I used to go to as a teenager this one I rarely visited. I remember wicks and sticks still being a store but that’s about it. I really wanted to get that scene right but all that remodeling over the years. I Spent along time trying to line up that scene that security talked to me twice. I also was trying to find a old mall map online but nothing. Thanks for watching
@@illinoismallexploring4419 not to film the store fronts because people will use it to find’s weakness and plan more smash and grabs. Since the Louis Vuitton store just got hit like a month before I was there.
When Brookfield properties took over in the late 90’s they changed the scheme of the escalator locations.the original mall was a homart design by Sears when it first opened in 1976.
Another location used was Niles East high school in Skokie. I was a sophomore at Niles East when they filmed part's of Weird Science, Risky Business and Sixteen Candles. The location is now a community college in Skokie.
I filmed the flag pole at the Oakton college in my other video. Did they have two flagpoles at the school? Because It doesn’t really look the same as from the movie. I think the only thing left is what was underneath the old gym and flag pole.
In the original movie the soundtrack song playing when the guys are following Lisa in the mall is pretty woman but in the version i recorded off tv has the weird science song in its place. Weird.
I went there today and was told I couldn’t film by some old very bored security guard… pathetic really as there’s less shops now than when you filmed this.
I had security talk to me last time and he told me not to film the store fronts. When I was in there filming the slush part. Then I was filming myself talking and was approached by a security or a undercover and was confronted about being warned by the first guy. So I wasn’t making it up and thought I’d put the warning out. Also the reason it might seem a little rushed. Unless you mean the snatch and grab comment which kinda ties into why security was up tight. That just happened there like a month or two before I filmed.
Poor malls... they have seen better days. I remember really enjoying going to a mall as a kid. Now I walk the halls with my son and he tells me how depressing the mall is. I agree with him it looks like a waste land. Where it once was full of people, and life. It now looks more like you could get stabbed at the mall near us.
I worked at Neiman Marcus in northbrook for several years I haven't been back for a long time but I I hear it's at the whole place it's almost abandoned
Not really. All the good juicy stores are on free rent because of the low occupancy and anchors. So we still have many of the good ones. The Neiman Court is a ghost town though, all that’s left is Monograms Today, Louis Vuitton, Lululemon, Tommy Bahama, Tiffany & Co., Max Mara, Soma and a nail spa and Di Pescara. There’s also a new skin care store that opened last spring where Armani was. The lord & Taylor court is a mess though, all that’s left is a repair shop, White House black market, Chicos, TUMI, and a new shoe store, but Arhaus announced they’re leaving after the holidays. The treehouse though, they’re still doing great, they can be busy on the weekends and still have almost all the stores, other than Banana Republic and Starbucks and those children’s clothing stores who closed during the pandemic. Apple, lego, forever 21, auntie Anne’s, amc are still there. The Macys court is in need of restoration after they messed it up during the failed redevelopment. All that’s left is Sephora and Gap and CPK. That’s it. Tony & Bruno’s is the last store in the food court. The mall is still quite clean and nice looking. It’s all up to management, they haven’t lowered the rent in all these years causing everyone else to flee. Couple stores who are still paying rent are saying they’re out when the lease is up. They’re trying to build luxury outdoor shops in the Neiman Marcus parking lot, and some housing where Macys was but they have went completely quiet since they presented the new plan in April.
I normally do drop the s but it was more than one scene 🎬 in the video. I did Gary’s house and Wyatt’s along with the girlfriends in my other video before this one. So I’m always torn on reusing old footage to be more comprehensive. I just ran out after work and filmed this video because I felt I filmed the car scene wrong before. I was trying to get more locations to do more scenes for each movie. But I thought I lost all my footage for memory space. Luckily I found it on my cloud account. So I Just dumped all my location in one video. Breakfast club, ferris Bueller, weird science even risky business and topped off with the married with children home. So After I put that video out I ran out and redid the mall footage.
One of my favourite 80s films, love it. Nicely editied.

That black porsche was such a beauty.

I'm Ian, this is Max. We call him Mad Max.
Top 5 movie for me ,my childhood
Nice work
5:13, it’s actually filmed in the corridor across from Silver Corner. They took those escalators out now.

@@Neverhome365 What did security tell you?

@@Neverhome365There’s plenty of footage of the mall online, but I guess good for them for trying to prevent it in the slightest.

This ban on filming even when the mall is clearly dead is stupid. Let people film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its history it needs to be. Damn.

Wee, maybe you are the last one to record this location before it gets demolished.

The kid drops the Icee on Wyatt and gary at the mall.
If I remember right one filmimg location was Bell High School in Bell Ca in our gym I was a sophomore at the time

Yeah I wasn’t making that up it’s a shame they think that’s the route they need to take
Don't show paranoia, edit that. Great video none the less. John Hughes rules!

Not construction, we have our Christmas lighting there at Northbrook court
I thought I read the bank wouldn’t approve the loan to build the outside mall. Not sure what news page I read that on.
@@Neverhome365 oh we have that every year … unfortunately, what they did was , condense the parking lot and it’s a shortage of parking around there.

When arcades were there in the 80s and 90s.

6:48 that Crate & Barrel at 6:23 you see a woman walking out of the entrance you exited with a Crate & Barrel bag.
Should say location… not locations 😜
