    I first met Ethan as he stood in front of me in our savings and loan off 17th Street. I didn't know who he was at first and wondered why the tellers were enamored but very polite, smiling. He was so tall, so much dark hair and so well-mannered! I was about 23. I remember Duke's station wagon down on Balboa Island, and my blessed mom used to see Duke shopping at Fashion Island where he would tip his hat and smile his loving smile that made my mom melt. My fav. Duke movie is The Searchers, and so I named my only child, son after Duke's character and his son Ethan. Oh how we miss the old quiet undeveloped days of Orange County and our beaches. Well done here, Ethan. God bless you all. - mom of US Coast Guard veteran now, son Ethan

      That station wagon was customized for him (I think by George Barris, of Batmobile fame) by having the roof raised up 6 inches or so, that way he could get in and out of it with his favorite cowboy hat on.
      Interesting bit of trivia about Ethan, he was a stuntman in The Blues Brothers, it was his first movie that he worked as a stuntman in, after that he did several more and then got into the production end of movie making.

    A unique perspective from Ethan Wayne. The fact that he holds his father in high regard says a lot about John Wayne's character. All of us are flawed and less than desirable traits but to outshine our negatives is what we hope to attain and I think John Wayne did this and to contribute like he did to cancer research makes me admire him even more than before.

Fair Dinkum is probably the best thing you could say about someone else .. if you said ‘JohnWayne is fair dinkum’ it means true blue & genuine, a good bloke & you won’t get dudded .. probably the most Aussie saying there is, apparently came from the gold fields in the 1800’s . Once Fair Dinkum is used about someone there’s no need for any further Due Diligence. Lee Marvin used to come to my home town ‘Cairns in North Queensland’ fishing for Black Marlin every year in the 1970’s & he’d drink in the local Pubs around town & he became known as a ‘Fair Dinkum Bloke’ he said it was the most honourable thing ever said about him.

    Ethan Wayne, thank you for this, When I was a young Marine station at El Toro, in 1977, 78 Mr, Wayne had a next-door neighbor who was a retired Marine, If I remember correctly. Do you remember his next-door neighbor's son? The retired Marine Son and I worked part-time at El Toro Air station at the PX, I would give him a ride home now and then, I'm trying to remember his name and get in contact with him. I worked in the base commissary and lived off base in Stanton Ca. Thank you.

Close to Doris Day , and bordered Ernie Pyle s Indiana , it was booming as well. It's good to know family travelled too. To see the chess game is amusing. Not everyone played to game others with ills. Nice video....

    John Wayne,
    “I don’t feel guilty about the fact that five or 10 generations ago these people (Blacks) were slaves,” he said. “Now, I’m not condoning slavery. It’s just a fact of life, like the kid who gets infantile paralysis and has to wear braces so he can’t play football with the rest of us.”
    “I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them (native Americans), if that's what you're asking,” Wayne said. “Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.”

    • @DonnyBrook762
      @DonnyBrook762 4 года назад

      Would you say the same thing to the blacks who were free people of color and owned slaves? If so, maybe you should say something to the family of Anthony Johnson. He is the reason slavery was legal in the United States.

    • @robertaguilar7394

      @@DonnyBrook762 YES! Citing exceptions does not excuse the behavior.

    • @DonnyBrook762
      @DonnyBrook762 4 года назад

      @@robertaguilar7394 Just as today, the exception goes for people of affluence, not skin color. The Slave for Life ruleing was not an exception for a person of color, it was an example of how things work if you have enough money. New Orleans is a great example of where you had affluent people of color before the American Civil War where at one point, approximately 20% that population owned at least one slave. It also well documented that some of the Cherokee tribe members took their slaves with them on the Trail of Tears; once they reached Oklahoma, they kept those slaves. Ownership of another human only works when there is something to be gained; back then, system of slavery was driven by the land owner who needed manual labor to maintain their wealth. The average person (of color or non-color) had no need nor could afford to own a slave because of the simple cost of ownership. Slavery was and is about basic economics. To own a slave, the money generated by that slave's labor has to cover all costs incurred over the duration of ownership while generating a profit. Just as back then, the same principals of economics apply today. Slavery is still alive and well for the same reasons, we just call it human trafficking and it exists in every State and in every industry where labor is required (not just the sex trade). The Duke's point of view was a product of his raising and socioeconomic background; to his children he was just dad no matter how wrong he was. Are we to expect future descendants of the current slave owners to be apologetic for something that they were not involved in even though they may reap the financial fruits of those that are being trafficed today? The current yearly estimate is that approximately 17,000 people are trafficked within the borders of the U.S. Once these people are no longer able to generate enough money to cover the cost of ownership, many of them simply disappear never to be seen again, just like back then. To get to the point, we as a nation should not be worried how people feel about their ancestors, we need to be more focused on how to resolve the fundamental problem that results in bigotry. that are still in existence expect people to feel anything for something they were not a part of. As humans, we tend to block out things that we don't like and in the process we often erase the important facts of history and develop a new narrative that fits what we want to believe or want others to believe. Right now, we are reaching a historical turning point where the the wealth is being transferred and this nation's traditional ruling majority group is loosing power and on the way to becoming a minority group (2042); when this happens, the history books will be rewritten so that they tell narrative of the powers that be.
