    I'm a 60 year old white lady from down in Georgia, and I'm here to tell you how spot on your commentary is here. Lady Leshurr WAS my gateway into rap/hip-hop, for ALL the reasons you describe. I had pretty much given up on finding female rappers who respect themselves and their audience, and who I as a card-carrying Old Person can relate to. Somebody mentioned Lady Leshurr so I decided to check her out. Luckily the first thing I hit on of hers was "Unleshed" and I was like "OMG, she is singing my LIFE here" as well as thinking "Wow, I'm a trained musician but she can do something I will never ever in a million years be able to do." I was impressed then, I'm impressed now. I'm amazed she isn't yet a major international star. Nevertheless - I also thought your criticisms were very valid. I'm subscribing to your channel and will look to you for more insightful comments and more good music. Thanks! :-)

    I definitely agree with what you are saying. In the UK there are artists that have Charisma, and aren't even the best lyrically. I think it just proves how important confidence is going into things. Lady Leshurr might be gimmicky at times but she is starting to build up an incredible body of work. Her work rate is impressive, as is the way she can change her rapping style and some of the word play is amazing, as well as amazing charisma. If you get a chance have a look at Lady Leshurr F64 this shows you where she was at a few years back.

      I feel like this is kinda similar to Giggs.. Giggs is hugely successful here but if you take some of his lyrics out of the context of the song theyre super basic and even corny (sometimes). When you listen to it with his presentation though, over the right beat and all that it just feels amazing to listen to. That and no one in the world is better at writing a song where a crowd can rap the next line back to them (we've all seen the giggs and drake clips of him doing his verse live).

    Well said George and Ryan!!! Lady Leshurr has top potential and I actually had a couple people give me feedback in your last Lady Leshurr video New Freezer and from what I've read they said she lost support after she started doing her queen speeches and started going by the mainstream. So I think what you said in the video was on point, She is a talented rapper and can be the gateway for other UK artist to make a breakthrough into other places. If you can give her feedback on what she can improve on then she can become this amazing thing for your community and the music because of her dynamic and star potential. Big ups to Lady Leshurr and Great knowledge from y'all Lost In Vegas.

    With Lady Leshurr she's a walking punchline which is both her greatness and her curse. You can't really rock with her on a song with an actual concept because she is only has right hooks when you need a 1-2 blows with bars.

    Been following her since early 2000's. She's done so many things people don't know about. Your commentary is good. At least you recognize the talent because it is there. But because the UK is still a male dominated industry within this genre of music, it's difficult for women to really break the door down to solidify themselves as masterful. She is not a gimmick. For those who have a firm grasp of the English lexicon will see her play on words is amazing. Many know her from her queens speeches which she herself explained were meant to be fun and goofy. She's been grinding for 10+ years. I would give a brief synopsis of what she's accomplished, but it may be lengthy. I ask that you go to this site thelinkup.com/mixtape/lady-leshurr-lil-bit-of-lesh/ to hear her album "Lil Bit of Lesh" . There, she show cases how lyrically inclined she is. Listen to the song PENNYCAKE. If you listen to it, then let me know what you think. Thanks a bunch you guys. Chat soon.

    • @StayFr0sty
      @StayFr0sty 6 лет назад +4

      Just saying, Dave is nowhere NEAR the best lyricist in the UK, I understand it is your opinion but within the UK rap scene his name wouldn't even be mentioned in the top 25, the list is huge, with facts such as amount of multisyllables and double entendres used in a song even coming into account, if you want to overrule opinion and try to define what lyricsm is. No hate, just stating my two cents! UK artists such as Jehst, Klashnekoff, Chester P, Jam Baxter etc. Are all better lyricists by FAR, and then you get the groups like Rhyme Asylum and Phi-life Cypher or Triple Darkness or Task Force and Four Owls who just shit on any UK up and coming artist, even the more promising ones like Ocean Wisdom. Phew, rant over xD

    let me add my piece.... i have been listening to UK artistes for awhile now and trust me LADY LESHURR is fire. she has start quality, she has bars and she has a wicked flow. she is very dynamic and flows fluidly on a beat. any track she touches she kills...... literally. for a female she bagging them.
    She raps and while doing so adds a lil dancehall twist to it where she flows a bit in patoi, switching accent, tone and sometimes pitch and or tempo all while still maintaining the beat. she is doing what many rappers fails miserably to do...
    she is doing what many artist will never be able to do...
    she is not a gimmicks rapper .... don't take her creative fun like personally for gimmicks. her character on the beats shows that she actually embodies the beat. she owns it, its as if she become intricately woven, lyrically fuses with every chord in that beat.
    It just goes to show how natural it is for her and that this is talent not talent that actually comes by way of practice but talent that comes by way of having a natural gift.
    i know.... cause i have a passion for music. and i know when something resonates well. she flows with artistry, creativity, innovation and passion.
    give Lady lusherr the love and respect she deserves world. i know for a fact that a lot of female rappers who are big on the scene word play and flow cant match up to hers. she a beast................................

    I think the UK scene has an overabundance of people rapping about deep issues on a deep level, almost to a fault (i.e. with no let-up). Leshurr, though, is probably not who you want to go to if that's your barometer of artistry. I almost feel like her entire style is a pushback against that. It's much more fun and banterish.
    My recommendation for a great UK artist to check out is Cadet, especially his song Stereotype.

    She's not from London and it would burn the City to have a woman from Birmingham making the gateway open for Hip Hop in the UK. They think it should be a man from London. She has been around for about 15 years and never really blown up like she deserves.
    She is Bi-Sexual too (hence her RIP song) and I'm not sure if that helps or hinders her because she isn't a push over like some ladies in the industry are.
    Great video's by the way and it is so nice to hear that the USA are trying to make the connection with the UK artists, that's LOVE

But that said, I really dig this chick. She's very expressive and dynamic in her performance. I couldn't understand a word she was saying, but I didn't really have to. I think to get a full understanding of the UK scene (Grime specifically) you need to hear some of the non-crossover stuff. Grime developed independent to hip-hop and though they share similarities, comparing them is apples and oranges. Grime MCing developed from UK garage, drum n bass, jungle, rave and dancehall scene in the UK. This is a good introduction ruclips.net/video/NOIF7iUn-Z8/видео.html

    I'm a Chinese fan of your reaction. I knew KZ from "singer 2018" and soon became her fangirl too~.
    But here I want to recommend you to pay some attention to another young participant of "singer 2018", named HUA Chenyu (I know this pronunciation is hard for English speaker, so you may simply call him as HuaHua), as well as his performance "Nunchucks" in "singer 2018".
    "Nunchucks" is one of the most wildly known works from Jay, an iconic singer in China.
    Rearranging and putting own stamp on a song that has been stuck in people’s minds for years almost sounds like an impossible mission. but HuaHua absolutely NAILED it! He delivered a mind-blown performance that wowed the audience! Would really appreciate it if you could react to this rearranged song by Hua Chenyu.

    CASisDEAD is the most well rounded and talented artist the UK has in my opinion. He’s well known, but nowhere near well known enough. He won’t get you millions of views but, I can’t think of anyone that does what he does, at least not at the same level. Lyrically, conceptually, beats, flow, story telling, etc. are all on point. I think you might go down a rabbit hole looking through his stuff if you do decide to check him out

      Standard Procedure IAMDDB has a nice voice, nice vibes but I’m talking about lyricism and story telling. I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard anything by Casisdead, but you can’t compare the two and that’s no disrespect to IAMDDB, they’re just completely different.

    I just have to say - the "flow deaf" comment cracked me up! I agree with what you said - I'm not a huge hip hop fan. To be fair, I'm a bigger fan now that I subscribe to this channel, but it's not my first genre when I want to listen to music. Lady Leshurr definitely pulled me in. I enjoy listening to her and she makes me want to explore other UK artists. So I am the target audience George and Ryan are looking for. I do have one question - how do you tell the difference when a song is freestyle and when it's a normal song? I wouldn't know this was a freestyle unless I was told. This holds true for other artists as well, not just Lady Leshurr. Great reaction once again! #freethinkers
    I'd like to hear you react to Lingus by Snarky Puppy. Instrumental jazz at its finest.

    Guys, I'm dying for a reaction to Arriving Somewhere But Not Here by Porcupine Tree

    • @lofabred
      @lofabred 6 лет назад +1

      I love PT, but I dunno if that's a great 'intro to PT' song - 12 mins with a ~2 min intro. Like maybe Trains or Blackest Eyes would be great first songs

    • @KennethRathburn
      @KennethRathburn 6 лет назад +1

      DAK Here's the way I see it: I liked everything I heard by PT until I heard Arriving Somewhere But Not Here. That was the song that made me fall in love with them and basically kickstarted my real appreciation for them. And at this point, I think we'll be lucky to see R&G react to one PT song. They've already heard and even enjoyed other lengthy songs (Gojira), but PT has a more accessible sound, and Arriving Somewhere displays that sound in such a beautiful way that if they were to only hear one PT song, that's the one I'd pick.

      sane jam They’ve reacted to Ocean Wisdom. Ocean Wisdom is probably my favourite UK artist but that’s due to me liking the old school vibes and a sick flow but I’m okay with acknowledging CAS is a much better artist.

    Always a pleasure to watch you react to music. The way you approach everything with an open mind is refreshing and offers up a lot of interesting analysis.
    On the point you make of exposure and UK hip-hop/rap/grime artists making it in America there is a tricky line to be towed between remaining true to the roots and opening yourself up enough to be accessible to "outsiders". Go to far in one direction and you lose the sense of identity in the music and go to far in the other and your music will only be accessible to a select few. I feel like a few artists are starting to make a (small) impact in America as artists are starting to find a way to walk that line.
    Would be really interested to see your take on "Alone with the Sea" by Hurt or "I'm a fool to want you" by Billie Holiday. The Billie Holiday one in particular is very different from the songs I've seen you react to, with the emotion of her voice elevating the song to a higher level.
