Google's Pixel Buds Pro are the real deal, and I think they might make me put away my AirPods Pro for good! Here's my review of them and how they stack up against the Pixel Buds A-Series from last year.

I'm so glad I bought the regular pixel buds a couple years back. They actually improved with updates (sync and cutting out issues). The range is incredible. Battery isn't the best in the world but it's plenty. I understand why they discontinued them but it's still a bit sad there's no mid range option. Just cheap or pro. I have no desire for the pro as I'm very content with the OG's, but if something happened to them I'd for sure get the pros.
I probably consider those the mid range option, and the A-series the budget option
I was able to get the originals marked down to $99 when they announced the As. Helps me feel better about the purchase, but I do have to rotate between those and my Sony XM3s to get around battery life.
Maybe it's just Australia but they discontinued the regular pixel buds
@@therealarien nope, Google discontinued them when the As came through.
The Pixel buds 2 were around the same price though. It's only a 20 dollar difference now with good improvements.
The other advantage of the Pro is multi point connection, you can connect to two devices
That's really good to know. My Sony WF1000XM4s does not and it's frustrating when working. I want it to be connected to my phone and laptop at the same time.
Jabra does it with more features
Thats a common feature with most expensive wireless earbuds
@@alexsmith6271 what extra features
@@alexsmith6271 not just jabra... all the competing buds sub 200 are better.. but they are still selling out due to brand loyalty
Such a great review! Also love this setup. Lighting and color is onnn point, my guy
Thanks man!
great review. you forgot about multipoint connectivity. i think that would be the biggest selling point, being able to connect two devices simultaneously without having to manually switch every time.
Great video, what you miss is also the mic quality. I had the Pixel buds gen 2, and they had amazing mic quality. You could talk in windy condition, and the person on the other side wouldn't bat an eyelid. With the pixel buds a, the mic quality isn't as good. A lot of ambient noise seeps through. The person on the other end can hear you doing everything and it gets annoying for them. So apart from the wireless chargin, ANC, there is also the mic quality that makes a big difference on the pixel buds pro's side.
The battery life is what sold me, particularly to replace my "11-hr" Samsung Buds Plus after the right one lost it's volume along with persistent issues getting them to charge in their case. So far, my only complaint on the Pixel Buds Pro is occasional uneven battery drain, and ANC turned on seems to drain a LOT more power than they say it should (I somehow lost 2 hrs of of battery one day after only 30 mins of ANC turned on, and really haven't bothered with it since).
Do you ever clean your earbuds?
Most of those problems result from not good hygiene and cleaning.
@@thetechrealist yeah, I kept them pretty clean. I noticed the volume problem on the one bud after I had dropped it on a hard surface, figured maybe something happened to the driver inside from the impact. Also kept the connection points clean, but would often discover the buds at 20% and the case at 100%, even after the buds were in the case overnight.
@@ackthbbft Oof, with ho much technology is packed into an earbuds, I wouldn't be surprised if dropping it was the reason it got messed up 👍
surprised to see all the effort and not testing call mic quality, very important in todays age for many.....heard buds pro are superior on the boat with wind to airpods pro! what an advantage not to be lited here, comparing to wireless charging...
Agreed. Seems like many reviewers skip the call quality part.
Drop a dislike 👎
Definitely love the quality bump above the Series A Buds! (Coming from a iPhone user lol)
It feels weird seeing you in an MKBHD shirt. Because you should have your own shirts! 200k subs man! Congrats!
Thank you! I do have my own, I just don't have many and I don't promote them much.
@@MarkSpurrell don't be afraid. Put those ltt plugs in. They may sell!
@@MarkSpurrell you should never promote any other brand. It doesn't make sense, if you're a brand, you should always wear your own brand.
I thought the opposite I said damn that’s dope he’s supporting another creator. Salute
I'm looking for really good earbuds that sit over the ear rather than inside it. All In-ear earbuds are uncomforable for me. It seems nobody is making the older style that sit outside the ear canal anymore and it's frustrating
Hey Mark , its a request .. plz make a tech rewind episode on Pixel 5 in 2022, it would be great ...😄💚
That's a great idea (as I watch and comment on my Pixel 5a)
started talking about the airpods pro in the beginning then spent the video comparing pixel buds pro to the pixel buds A series.. You could've compared it to the aipods pro instead aswell. Or is it a sponsored video? :)))))))
I have a pair of Pixel Buds A that I like, but find uncomfortable after wearing for a while. My Wyze Buds Pro, however, I can keep in my ears for hours at a time without issue. I feel like not nearly enough people talk about them. They're $80, similar shape to airpods (in black), are comfortable, have ANC, wireless charging, and decent battery life. The biggest drawback is the single point connection. They can only connect to one device at a time. I still highly recommend them over pretty much every other earbuds I've tried. They have been my daily drivers until I got the Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones.
OMG you're listening to Hans Zimmer's wonderful score for Wonder Woman 1984! 🤩 Subscribed and liked immediately.
Ive had the 2nd gen pixel buds for two years, and they cut out CONSTANTLY at the gym. Now I recently switched to from a pixel to an iphone and suddenly my buds only work one ear at a time. I want the pixel buds to be good, but I've been burned bad.
A series were better
I just bought soundcore liberty 3 pro, and I haven't really taken them out of my ears other than the time when I have to recharge them. For $97 refurbished with 2 years warranty or $130 brand new, I don't see any reason to replace them any time soon. Wish Google could put some real magic/creative features into it next time.
Quick question when you take the buds out of the case and put in your ear, do the buds announce the battery level? I have that feature on my Sony wf-1000xm3s
*I skipped the A keeping my original Pixel Buds & glad I waited for the Pro, they're a very welcomed upgrade.*
do they block ambient sound on phone calls? I can't make phonecalls basically anywhere in public on my airpods pro because every sound around me gets picked up and the person I'm talking to can't hear me at all.
Hey Mark can you share what features are missing from these when paired with an iPhone?
is that MKBHD's t-shirt? looks dope
I have both. LOL people always complain they could hardly hear me on my Airpods Pro 2 (online meetings), even in quiet office. Tho so many reviews still named AP2 as best for calls.
I really like the Pros but I do miss the wing from the A Series those felt more comfortable for me.
Paul’s Dreams from Dune soundtrack, I see you’re a man of culture :)
Yeah these things are super comfortable, I picked up the foam ear tips and I can't get these to fall out of my ears. Long battery life. Anc could be a bit better but it's not really bad enough to complain. I'm pretty happy with the money I spent
On driver size; Bigger is better, always. It means the music is louder, and the bass is cleaner. That's not an opinion, its engineering fact. However, as with all devices, build quality is important. So for headphones, you want big drivers and top shelf materials/coils. Essentially, you want loud and clear, on all ranges. So while yes, the driver for the buds are clean, them being smaller is not a plus nor is it good. I want better materials/build and bigger drivers. Now again, that's not to say you can't make small drivers built like chad's, Sony's XM4's are a beautiful example of a 6mm driver made with some of the bleeding edge tech, that can handle 12mm base....
Again, build construction over size...however, in google's case, they're not using that tech. So for $200, save up, and or wait to get the Sony's, much better build, sound and quality of materials.
Unrelated to the pixel buds but your beard rocks bro!
I have the original pixel buds which do have wireless charging and we’re only missing the noise cancellation and are still good
I need new buds enjoyed the review and you're wearing mkbhd merch I'm subscribing bro 🔥
Wish they still had the wings though. Those things locked them into my weird ears and were great at the gym. The pro and other brands just don't stay in my ears well enough.
Hey, this might be a weird question but what wallpaper(s) did he (Mark Spurrell) use on his previous video for the samsung galaxy s20?
Ps: thanks if u reacted :)
Planning to get one this fall. Any suggestions on which color to pick? Not a big fan of vibrant ones and don't want charcoal either, so debating between fog and lemongrass.
I spent an hour at the Apple Store yesterday trying Beats and Apple buds/ headphones. Best sounding are the Apple Pro Headphones but at $549 they are too nice for working outside. The Beats Fit Pro are the best sounding buds. Way better than my AirPods Pro by far. The fact they can do the whole Apple ecosystem like AirPods has persuaded me to go this route. I wonder how these Google ones compare. BUT, everything I have is Apple.
Yes, you'll probably lose features that are exclusive to Android/Pixel users.
Hey great review but I would also add that the Pixel Buds Series A can have issues with connecting to the Bluetooth which can be very frustrating. I hope this isn't a problem with the pro series, other than that I love my Series A's and I can't wait to upgrade.
This is probably outside the scope of your normal videos, but would you consider reviewing the reliability of some Bluetooth earbuds? I've had several pair now that have altogether stopped working apparently due to the charging port breaking down in just a few weeks. Before I shell out big money for something like these, I'd hope to know they won't have the same issue.
For me, I think they were worth the $200. However, I don't be grudge anyone who want to wait until they are a little cheaper, but it's going to take some time since Google is not known for reducing their prices often. However, I had the original pixel buds, the Series- A and now the Pro. I think the ANC is top tier. I ranked them below. Bose and Sony but above the Sennheiser. It's battery life, multipoint connection and the better sound was enough for me. The multipoint connection switches excellently with other mobile devices that are Android. It connects well to a laptop but switching from one device to another isn't as good.
They might be worth 200 compared to the A series... since those are overpriced but not compared to apple and samsung and esp not compared to the lesser known brands
I enjoyed the video.. Awesome explanation
The eq is now available! Yessir
So how are these better than airpods pro that you finally made the switch. How is the mic quality? How is multipoint support? How easy is pairing? Can you use all feature with iphones?
Good review, how are the onboard mics for phone/video calls?
I have the answer to your question
My bol sac
Why did the remove the dongle things like there is on the A series? That is my favorite part of the bud?
I miss the string between the two buds that they had in the first generation version. It was so nice to be able to hold them around your neck like over ear headphones.
Is the seal doing a good job at blocking ambiant noise?
For me it was the opposite i switched back to airpods 3 i decided i really cant take the plugged up ear feeling, the pix pros were just too heavy and uncomfortable the a series were the most comfy for a while but still ears would sweat and itch after a few minutes of Wear, abd i am using a pixel 6 pro so i loose a lot of features but i deal for the comfort.
Congrats on 200k
Thank you!
What I and everyone loves about airpods is the microphone.
Are the pixel buds pro just as good or better??
So now airpods pro 2 is available, which one do you prefer??
Are they small enough to sleep on them? Thats the only reason i have airpods pro
At first glance of the thumbnail I thought Eddy Burback was reviewing tech suddenly.
What app are you using at the 4:54 part of the video?? is that spotify?
That's RUclips Music, RUclips's music app.
What about call quality?!
You also can't customize the controls on the a-series just as an fyi
Is the hising sound gone in the pixel buds pro? I have the pixel buds 2 and the hiss is so annoying.
The Waveform shirt!!!
So did you give up your AirPods
Strange that you prefer the sound quality compared to the A series. The 'This Is Tech Today' channel went into a lot of depth to demonstrate how much worse the Pros sound compared to the A Series.
I don’t do edm . I do prog metal rock. How’s that sound?
The battery life looks impressive but …ANC using less than half the battery? Suspicious.
Considering the AirPods Pro are 3 years old now and still have better ANC and transparency than these is telling. Surely ANC is the main reason to spend the extra on buds, so these seem like a bit of a fail.
Definitely an overpriced fail
I had the a series and love the sound, but they cut out to much, hope these fix that
I had that issue a month ago but the latest update seems to have fixed it
i have the samsungs buds pro and i love em but they keep falling out like every 30 secs. i bought them for the gym cuz they are sweat resistant. do u guys thing i should switch to the google ones pro?
The pixel pro's have great features and voice assistant integration, but personally, I find them uncomfortable and lacking in music sound quality.
you say their replacing your airpods, but how do the pixel buds work with an iphone?
I'm one of those people that almost never use many earbud features. The voice assistant (siri) won't work on an iphone, and neither will volume eq, but neither of those things bother me. As long as it has noise cancellation/transparency mode, and gesture support, I'm good.
How's the phone call quality tho?
That Dune soundtrack 🔥🔥🔥
You can always EQ with Wavlet
Anyone heard pixel buds pro vs echo buds 2nd gen? I like the ability for a hands free voice assistant, esp handy when bike riding, etc. just wanted to compare fit, sound quality, etc. Usually neckband earbuds are great for those sorts of usage scenarios, bike, motorcycle, etc.
wait the A-series dont have swiping gestures I think - thats actually a great difference
it worth just for the multi device connectivity feature 👌🏻
how would you say these compare with huawei's freebuds pro 2?
Still wating for a model to beat buds + endurance... But this pixel seems really nice
Sir could u pls do a latency test while playing BGMI/PUBG in pixel 6 series mobile with pixel buds pro😇
Even though I'm not an apple fan, I have Airpods (2). I had earbuds (they were cheaper ~€50) but it felt pretty bad for me, sometimes it would rip my eardrums loose. The only thing I miss about earbuds is that it blocks most of the sound. With my Airpods in I can hear most sounds around me if they are loud enough.
I listened to this but then decided to stick to my Series A buds. The difference in sound is not that much and the ANC is not that good in the Pro. I suggest that you save that 100 bucks. Nice review! 🙌
I have both. ANC works quite well, actually. Not so much if you have a bad fitment and need to change your ear piece. The full ranginess of these is noticeably different, again maybe not if you don't have a great seal in your ears. One thing you will note if you actually tried them, is during initial setup they do a really good job of allowing you to test the ear pieces and testing quality and seal over and over until you get it correct. Guess just "listening" to them and not purchasing and setting them up to personalize ruins the experience...
@@citizenclown I agree. But sound is subjective. What is pleasing to your ears may not satisfy my needs. Specifically, in this case, the tuning of the sound turned me off. And I used them for a good 40 hours or so to see whether the tuning changed or not. It did, but not that much. I couldn't justify the extra 100 bucks just for the ANC. But anyway, you are enjoying them and that's fine! I'll probably go to the Sennheiser way because the sound is impeccable.
@@sudipchatterjee I did not truly start enjoying the sound quality until I upgraded the earpieces to the Comply memory foam. My ears are pretty goofy shaped as most buds don't fit or fall out. These things seal great and the sound quality is superior to the A-series in range and they don't hurt my ears. The seal makes a huge difference. 40 hours huh? Well done. Quite an extensive tester you are...
And the $100 comes with better gestures, batter life, case life, spatial audio eventually, and likely a much more rubust EQ. Not just ANC. But of course you knew all that since you tested them for 40 hours. You know your stuff!
@@citizenclown That's true. Those extra 100 bucks are not only for the ANC: there are many QoL features. But the sound didn't impress me; that's the main reason. (I did use Comply tips with these, though. But to no avail.)
Is galaxy buds 2 compatible with pixel 6a
can I sleep with it to cancel snoring?
are these the blue Pixel Buds Pro? They look white?
I am sad they didn't include a plain white version
They are the "frost" color. It's as close to white as you can get while still being slightly grey.
For me the Best Earphones are the Galaxy Buds. 😍😍
Apparently you haven't tried Soundcore's best.
Is there a eq already?
It’s also important to note you can get AirPods Pro’s for $179 or less anytime just not from apple. Haven’t tried the pixel buds but I feel like they’re a hard sell for any apple ecosystem person. Great vid tho!
Got my pixel buds 2020 don't know whether to get them
mark , you talk so slow, i have to double playback speed... did you test connectivity distance?
Oh dear, this one's not quite up to your usual high standard of reviews. Why? Because your title says you're giving up your Air Pods Pro, but you spend the vast majority of the review comparing them to the earlier, cheaper Pixel Buds and fail to make a convincing case for doing so. As far as I could tell, the main difference seems to be battery life, but most non-Apple wireless earbuds have better battery life anyway. No mention of spatial audio capability either which is something I love from Apple Music.
pixel buds vs galaxy buds, thank you.
Just returned mine because no one could keep them working properly. Going with a different brand.
Love the shirt
Anyone know how these compare to Sony Linkbuds S?
I will never buy Earbuds without stems and more specifically without squizz function. After switching from AirPods Pro to Pixel Buds 2 Pro, i truly don't understand how people can feel comfortable tapping the shit out of theyr eardrums like that all the time. It's practically painfull and suuuuper uncomfortable. Not to mention the QUALITY of all the functions.
Great video but after owning 3 pairs of pixel buds (the first was I had to return and then bought another pair when the returned pair broke) I will never, ever go back to pixel buds.
I travel allot for work and the buds always hiss and pop in my ear, alongside them disconnecting constantly. I feel they are the most comfortable headphones on the market, but having used apples ear buds and not once having connection issues I'm over google.
Can you please re-visit the Iphone Se 2020 🥺
MKBHD merch.. love to see it.
You didnt even talk about mic quality
what about microphone quality?
Average. Nothing special but still gets the job done.
Thanks for the video.
can u review the s21 again.......please Spurell please
Help decide between Pixel buds pro, galaxy buds2 pro, freebuds pro 2.
Coming from galaxy buds pro 1 which used to hurt my ears.
P.D.: I have a Pixel 6 pro
Go with pixel buds then
Yeah but not a apple fan but the September event is coming up we should wait if the airpods pro 2 and then compare the 2 but if it's not in the sep then use these
That MKBHD t-Shirt❤️
Is he wearing a waveform something shirt
Came for the feedback on the Google Assistant feature… DISAPPOINTED!
