Here are more info for beginners:
** Typical power reserve ** Most modern automatic watches will provide at least 38 hours of power reserve when fully wound. You can take off your watch on Saturday night and it should be still running on Monday morning. If you need more than this typical entry-level power reserve without breaking the bank to much, go for a Powermatic 80 movement (80 hours of power reserve) that you can find at Hamilton (with their H line of movement), Tissot or Certina.
** Your watch is slow or fast ** If your automatic watch is slow or fast (up to 30 seconds per day), this is perfectly normal. Mechanical movement are not as precise as quartz ones. If you can't live with the lack of accuracy, you should take it to your local watch maker and ask him to regulate it for you. It might become as precise as -/+ 5 seconds a day if you're lucky. More luxurious pieces have better movement that are regulated to more positions, and can achieve better accuracy out of the box.
Enjoy your first automatic watch!
The Slender Wrist is fossil automatic good enough?
Nice channel. Just subscribed.
How do you rate the Seiko nh35a movement please?
@@rizalkhoiruzad6515 I don't know about their automatic movements, sorry.
@@Zeus-kj7nn I like it. It's pretty accurate out the box (most of the time), hacking and hand-winding - a no-frill but working movement. No wonder so many micro brands use it!
Always good to find an expert who can make simple content for beginners which doesn't patronise and doesn't make a beginner feel like an idiot for having legitimate "beginner" questions. Well done!
Agreed
Yes. No nonsense. Just lots of basics and clear explanations. Instant sub.
Finally a simple video with a lot of answers and suggestions to the most common questions. Thank you for this!
My pleasure Andrea, thanks for watching!
@@TimedSquare that quartz citizen is also mechanical. manual, automatic or quartz can all be mechanical. the other would be digital. that can still be automatic or battery operated.
No joke. Like it’s a secret.
Was literally going to say exactly this. Great video that makes sense and simple.
Agreed
Until i was 11 i thought all watches were quartz until i saw a breitling with a see through case back....I was wowed!....19 years later i decided to get one.
congrats to even afford one
Yh that’s one of my dreams too... i’m now 19 and hope to become a pilot soon
Watches can really be a motivation for life! Even if that might sound materialistic to non watchheads.
me too
when i was younger i assumed all watches manufactured since like the 80s were either quartz or fully digital
I am a watch enthusiast, but I still enjoy watching beginner videos. Still informative, and great content. Everyone needs to refresh themselves of the fundamentals now and then.
I'm Italian; my Watch winds as I talk
I agree 100% about the enjoyment of winding, setting time - it’s why I bought automatic. It allows you to interact occasionally, but doesn’t take too much time like a basic mechanical watch. It’s best of both worlds - you can play with it and not be a slave to it 👍
Quartz watches can also be adjusted, and interacting with those hands on a quartz watch is pretty much the same experience as doing it with a mechanical watch.
@@rangersmith4652 but you only need to setting the time once . Not everyday . Because it powered by battery . As long as the battery good you dont need to setting the time 🥲 unlike the automatic watch .
Winding a watch takes a minute to do. Early in the morning, sit up half asleep and wind away. If done daily there is no need to fiddle with the time.
Agreed 100%
If you can do that for me please let me know where I can send my watch to you
Simple explanation, brilliant.
Great video. Answered so many questions as I just got my first automatic watch. Love your honest, unpretentious manner. Thank you.
Automatic watches are just like car engines. Start them once in a while.
I'd like to see a mechanical car like these watches. Automatic best 😁
Good analogy!!!
Ode 😂
@@user-nf9xc7ww7m I'm thinking about making one
My god....this is just super amazing.... I have an automatic seiko of my grandfather lying around for more than a decade now because we had no idea how an automatic works so we thought the watch is dead and will not work ..... Took it to many repair shops and everyone just refused to work on it and my god I'm laughing my ass out right now😂😂😂...gave it a little shake and the baby is running amazing. Thanks man, I have always loved this watch and always wanted it to run and here we are😂😂😂 damnn....thanks again!!!!
I'm so happy man!!! Words cannot my happiness right now. Thanks again!!
How odd that the repair shops refused to check on your watch??? Aren't they supposed to be knowledgeable about horology?
Thanks so much. I’ve just purchased my first automatic and your beginners guide was spot on. Love my watches.
i have always worn a watch since 1968 when i went into the u.s. airforce and got my first watch. it was a zodiac aerospace gmt and i wore it for daily for 20 yrs. and it still works today in my collection. i really enjoy collecting and wearing a watch. today i'm wearing a knock-off rolex submariner that actually works very well. i also have acouple of my dad's watches and one he wore during WW2, a holland supermatic and also a tissot dress watch. i have about 20 watches, some auto mechanical and some quartz. thnx for the video, steve
Just got my ingersoll 1892 the charles automatic watch, absolutly love it!!
Tobias Mattsson im about to buy the protagonist. How is it been with yours?
Best watch collecting beginner’s guide on RUclips. Clear and concise. Well done, Alessandro.
Thank you so much Eye Heart Sushi! Glad you liked it. I never thought of making a video like this one - this is why commenting is so useful :) Cheers!
What a guy, humble. Soon I'll be having my first watch. Thank u for ur video
Thank you for this great intro primer. I just bought the Timex Marlin series - my first automatic watch!
Simple and objetive. Straight to the target!!! Great help!! Thanks.
Good job bro. You kept the contents really informative and simple. It helps!
Friendly and helpful advice to new people purchase an automatic watch at the first time, get more understanding of the true colours of classic technology from yesteryear, well done!
I've bought a Hamilton Valiant, this is my first automatic watch, I absolutely adore it.
Instant sub. It's amazing how often experts will overlook the basics. I have found great information on RUclips, seen overhauls and even jewel replacements - and am indeed interested in and grateful for all of the above. But this is the first channel I've seen yet with so many basic questions answered. And best of all, no evidence of parroted "information" that even I (just starting with mechanicals) know from limited experience and my own observations to be false. Definitely worth a subscription. Can't wait to see more of your content. 👍
I'm new to automatic watches... Thank you for all the info. Great video and very informative.
Thanks just got my first automatic (Tissot PRS 516) this helped me out a bunch.
Absolutely loved this video. Thoroughly! God bless you. I'm super choose, and I'm totally subscribing to your Channel!
Me too, The video is excellent!!
Excellent video!! Love the straight forward answers. Great work!
Thank you for taking the time to explain this
Good work friend.... I love the honesty in your video. Keep it up....
I'm glad that you mentioned the Seiko not needing manual winding. I attempted to wind my SRPA21 when I first got it, because it stopped overnight. No wonder I never felt the crown getting harder to turn. lol
This has been happening to me and I don’t know why. What did you do to fix the problem?
I like your videos. Just to add, in case a viewer buys or inherits an old watch (say, from the 60's) that is a manual wind. When the watch is fully wound, there will be resistance, in which case you should stop winding, or risk damaging the watch.
J'adore tes vidéos! Continue!
Much thanks! I've had an Omega Seamaster 300 for 2 years and never knew how to hand wind it. It's not my daily wearer and would always die overnight. After watching this video, my problem was solved. Keep making these videos!
Explanations both relevant and easy to understand regardless your watch knowledge.. Loved watching this video !
Great vid and love the info. i just got my first mechanical watch which is Seiko.
How will I know when my watches need servicing?
Thanks!!!
bought anew automatic watch, love the looks and it fits really good. Only problem i had was the after winding the watch would be out of power and stop after a couple minutes. Turns out i've been winding it wrong :)
Thanks for the mini auto tutorial, always look forward to your videos.
Thank you Hilton!
Great video! I just purchased my first ever automatic swiss watch and this is really helpful in understanding how it works on what I should do with it. Cheers!
Love the video. Simple. Clear. Enjoyable.
Subscribed 1min into watching. 👍
Just bought my second automatic watch. Great video
Well....what did you get?
Today I got my first automatic watch
And it’s a vintage oris with poker dial
I learned a lot from this video
Thanks 🙏
Man, your voice is very clear and easy to understand. And that cool drake beard adds so much more. Keep up great work man. Subbed!
Every watch collection must have at least one quartz powered watch, always ticking away and on the ready. Good video by the way.
Exactly the information I needed. Thank you very much.
Great vid man, always enjoy your reviews and guides. Stay stylish my dude.
I managed to “over-wind” a modern 2008 “automatic” dive watch I owned that used a Sellita SW200 movement. I too was under the impression that I could not not damage the watch thru over-winding via the crown, but I did. I wanted to maximize the amount of power stored in the spring and as I wound the watch, using the crown at the 3 O’clock position, I felt the crown get harder to wind when, all of a sudden, tiny gear teeth stripped off of something inside the movement. I saw the catastrophic result thru the display caseback, there were tiny bits of metal all over the inside. I had to send the watch in for repair.
you are just perfect in explaining in that simple clear way
thank you a lot
Yes i agree with you, and it is very romantic experience when you setting up your off automatic watch, thank you for sharing this video.
(Addition: believe or not, everytime i adjust my watch always remember this)
New user of certina ds-1 automatic here, its my first automatic watch, thx for the vid. Cool stuff.
Hats off mahn.. you just clarified all my doubts about automatic movement watches... I am now really fascinating about my next automatic watch..
Thank you, very very helpful as I've just bought my first automatic.
The video was exceptional! And Highly appreciated! Thank You! Very helpful
I thought my watch was not working properly after buying it. Dident realise it was even a automatic watch. Thanks to this vid, it all makes sence now. Lol. Great vid! Perfect for beginners!
Very in depth video. I just got my Longines Flagship with the ETA 2895/2 and I thought the winding mechanism is broken or something because I can't wind it manually. Now, because of you I realize that some automatic watches are made not to be wind manually. THank you
Finally. Got my automatic watch working. Thanks for this 😊
Thank you. You answered my question about. Great job for explaining to beginners.
You made me understand perfectly about mechanical watches , thank you
I like this video. I use both automatic and quartz watches.
Thank you for the information. Just purchased my first Automatic watch. A 1960's Rotary GT . Very happy with it so far. And hopefully an nice investment.
Thanks for the info.
I received a Kenneth Cole Skeleton Watch as a birthday gift. It can with no instructions. You explained it wonderfully. Thanks again
Thank you! You video answered a lot of questions i had. Just bought a skeleton automatic watch. I love the mesmerizing movement inside!
thankyou very much the information , ive just bought a bulova automatic & wondered why it had stopped after wearing it all day , i just thought they had a sort of a back up battery lol .
Which bulova model did you get? I am looking at either the tissot v8 quartz or the bulova 98a104
Irshaad Shaikh I am also looking at a Bulova automatic watch. I’m looking at the model 98A224

@@getshamim Thanks!
Just got my first one ... Love to see the parts moving... Thnkx for your info. On mechanical watch... 🤘 ~
Thank you this was very helpful, I kept wondering why I was losing a little time every 24 hours and answers why my husband shakes his watch wrist so much!
Alessandro I must say this video was one amongst the best video for beginners as it had absolutely no jargons...for us who have some knowledge may be we knew quite a lot already but certainly for the beginners this was awesome....
Thank you so much Suresh! This as the goal of this video so happy to see watch enthusiasts like it :) Now it's not complete or in-depth by any means, so I'm waiting for the haters in 3... 2... 1... 😅
So true...but who cares...if they are haters they shouldn’t be here in the first place....
They're welcome, actually. I just prefer to focus on the supporting audience like you :)
Thanks mate - for the appreciation!!
Suresh Obhan I agree and as a BRAND NEW watch enthusiast having JUST started my collection journey with an automatic watch I very much appreciate this video!
This videos was so helpful, so many questions were answered and it brings a lot of ease of mind to hear some of these things with my new watch
really good and clear presentation, a lot less douchy than other watch channels, love the french accent. subscribed.
Thank you very much! Very informative!
This is probably the first video that I've seen that explains the different types of these watches. Good stuff! These days watches are more like jewelry than time pieces, because if you asked somebody the time, they whip out their smartphone in an instant, sometimes while wearing a watch! I have a Swiss Army quartz that I've had for nearly two decades and I'm looking for good affordable brands to start a collection.
You are the answer to my prayers man! Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I’m new to watch collecting and was a little confused by these terms. Cleared it up for me :)
Bought seiko snk809 as my first automatic, excited to wait it arrive soon!
My first automatic watch too sir. Look promising
So guys i wish you all best with yours new watch. Share your opinion here after you recieve them and how precisely watches keep time :)
@Grindererr Official, the search of ultimate accuracy :) I like it because I don't care all that much, so that's cool to have different expectations around! @Darth Vader and @Arfian Wismiga, congrats on your purchase and wear them in good health!
Congratulations! That's a nice watch.
Congratulations!
Where did you order it from? I am also searching
Excellent video and advice. Thanks for taking the trouble to pass this information on.
A Beginner's Guide, just what I need. Liked!
My first automatic watch is a Vostok ladies Amphibia . I’m a female learning the male watches 🌍😉
Informative and simple video! Thank you!
Wow this video was great and really informative, short and answered all necessary questions about an automatic watch. Thank you so much
Man, your channel is VERY GOOD. I'm from Brazil, I do not speak English very well, but I understand some things well. The high-top videos on the videos helped me a lot to understand what you wanted to see in the video. I know the video editing is difficult, but I would like to ask whenever possible to keep the topics before each subject, because if I do not know, I play in the online translator and I can already have an idea of the content that you want to pass. Thank you so much for having known your channel.
Simple and with easy and great content to watch. Now I am reading all the texts in your blog. CONGRATULATIONS for EXCELLENT work. Very good your channel. Hugs you
Thank you so much my friend!
Thanks for this. My father gave me his Sandoz 70s watch, it has not been used for decades, I just wore it today and it worked.
This the most common sensed video I've seen about automatic movements questions! 👍
Really helpful video, I'm planning to buy my first automatic watch in the next few weeks.
So it's good to know the basics, before I start to worry that I will break this new and expensive (3K+) watch.
Good info!! I'm a middle aged guy, but I'm fairly new to automatic watches. I'm a solar powered quartz fan, but I do own four autos now. A Steinhart limited edition Barrique Skull model, a Hamilton aviation watch, an Invicta Grand Diver and an off brand auto. Thanks for this vid! Very well done, sir!
Just received an automatic Relic as a gift and this video was super useful.
thank you, so informative and helpful to a newbie to automatics - much appreciated 😊
This video couldn’t come at a better time for me. I have a couple of automatic watches in my collection but they are not hand winding. That said I bought a citizen ny0080 promaster diver which I should get in the mail any day now and its an automatic with hand wind ability. I’m so excited for it to come. For me it’s kinda a big purchase. Thank for the info.
Congrats on your new piece, I love those Citizen divers!
Thank you. Right on the mark for my level.
Thank you for this video ! I will have my first automatic watch very soon and it will help me a lot ! Really cool video !
Excellent video Sir- thank you very much- Lord bless you
Thank you Alessandro for this very informative video!
Thanks for the great content! First time Submariner owner and you put my mind at ease. Thnx
Thank you for the detailed explanation of an automatic watch. I received 2 days ago my first automatic watch, a Seiko SRPE53 “Blue” Sports. Will be getting it sized today by a watch jeweler. I am looking forward to wearing it. But after watching and learning from your video, I will enjoy it even more.
Welcome to the Seiko Family! Enjoy your watch! ✔️✌️
I feel exactly the same...the Romantic when i know that my automatic watch is assembled from 250 or more working very precise parts. BTW i never know before that the Quartz Watches running more accurate than the automatic watches. I was a quite surprised but i still think that the Mechanical Watch are something special and unique....
I bought my first automatic watch some hours ago. Thank you Google search algorithm.
This is literally me today 😂
Many Thanks,
Peace From London. 👍👍
This is my first time using a mechanical watch, and I don't even know what to ask bc that's just how little I know. Thank you for this easy-to-understand explanation.
Hi. Awesome video for a new automatic watch owner. Great information! Thank you! 👍🏻
Yay! Now I can wind my new favourite (Mido All Dial GMT) by hand if I haven't worn it in a while. Thank you!
splendid explanation bro. i am about to get an automatic watch and also im eager to wear it. but i have some doubts regarding that which are now cleared totally. thank you so much
Excellent well presented informative video - thank you and keep-up the great work!
