One really fun fact is that Zuko's Blue Spirit mask comes from the play "Love Among the Dragons". The Blue Spirit is the villain of the play, and the mask is well known in the Avatar world just like the "Phantom of the Opera" mask would be to us. You even see the mask in the background of a couple scenes. With this knowledge, it makes that Zhao discovers Zuko is the Blue Spirit from his swords, rather than from a well known theater mask. If Zhao had found the mask, then Iroh could easily said he was a fan of the theater. Aside from the actual cannon, I would loved to see someone else take up the mask of the Blue Spirit after Zuko discarded it. It would have really intriguing to not know who the new person was.
You might be right about that but when she confronted the mother of faces when she gave her a new face the mother of faces felt a sad aura and told her she can wipe her memory but when the topic came about zuko and azula she didn’t want to give up that part of her memory but mother of faces told her are they part of the sad depressing life she had and she said it in a sad tone yes and either way she demanded that she could take zuko and azula with her once she made the poison but ozai told her if she tried anything to leave with them her and her kids would be in danger they would of been tracked down and killed
Completely off-topic but 'Little Soldier Boy' is the saddest part of the whole show. The voice actor for Iroh wrote it knowing he was going to die and based it off of his life. It was the last thing he ever recorded, so all of his tears were genuine and real. Also, the picture of Lu Ten was based on a young picture of the voice actor.

She murdered the current ruler, Azulon who we don't know much about, could of been a okayish person, he is the father of Iroh after all, to install someone incredibly worse, instead of just running off with Zuko.
I mean, the world is a big and expansive place, easy to get lost in, if you go to the right places, she could of gone to the Northern Water Tribe, a city which has never fallen to the fire nation, and where they'd be untouchable. Azulon would still be alive in that scenario too and Ozai would look weak in the eyes of his father and the fire nation if word got out that his wife and son ran away. It's better just for him to say he did what his father ordered, and his wife got in the way.
I understand why she chose to forget. She felt she tried everything she could to help her children, but in the end she was still left in such a hopeless situation where she couldn’t make save her children from their father and she couldn’t be with them. So she decided to forget, because she felt there was no other way of going about things without living out her life alone and in pain
I understand it, but I don't agree. She left her children with a man who was about to KILL one of them no questions asked...not exactly the brightest idea and its very selfish of her to simply forget this when her own children don't have that luxury.

The subtext is that she chooses to forget her children because it means she will also forget the abuse she suffered from fire lord Ozai. If you pay attention to her behavior around him and around the castle it has all the hallmarks of abuse and just makes sense because fire lord ozai is the literal worst.
Ursa didn't cold-heartedly choose to forget her children. After the Mother of Faces gave her a new face, she sensed that Ursa was greatly depressed by her old life that it was much of a burden to her. So Koh's mum offered to wipe Ursa's memory. Ursa hesitantly agreed to it.
Ozai has probably subjected Ursa (like the momma bear constellation) to so much mental trauma that she knows if she were in his vicinity to the slightest she would be caught! Do we not remember how azula figured out that zuko was going to meet iroh in the prisons? Do we not remember how manipulative her daughter is to get her way? Do we forget all of this and judge her for the choice of a new life for herself? She sacrificed herself for zuko because she loves him, but ozai thinks emotions are weakness, do we think he’d let her keep sacrificing herself?
Can we also talk about how Ozai was kind of like Zuko, in that he was not his dad's favorite, even though he tries desperately to earn his father's love? Funny parallel there, although they both took such opposite directions, because Zuko realized he didn't need his toxic father's love, but Ozai still can't let go of not being his dad's favorite. Also, in defense of Ursa, the comics also show that Ozai was pretty abusive to Ursa (gee, what a shocker!). Like, so much so that she was afraid to step into the palace again, even though Zuko was now Firelord, because the royal palace brought back so many bad memories. So, I can kind of see why she would be like "I want to completely forget all the trauma Ozai gave me."

This is actually, like, the 4th video I've read on this subject. I almost didn't watch because I now know the story so well just from these videos. However, this is SCB and how do I NOT watch their content, right? So glad I did, because this is actually the BEST version I've seen. Mostly because it does tie-in/remind people crucial scenes from the series, whereas a lot of the other videos just assume you already know/remember all of that. Also, I feel J went in to a lot more detail (ironically, given he left off the ending) that gave me a much more complete and well-rounded look at the story, as opposed to past videos. For instance, NONE of the other 3 videos I had watched ever mentioned that Zuko's mom originally wanted to switch out her face in order to potentially keep an eye on her children without Ozai knowing. Great job, J.
It might skip it and continue the cycle without the air, but personally i think that trough spirit shenanigans someone would sonner or later be born with airbending abilities and/or they might be "awakend" in other people, kinda like it does in LOK bringing itself to balance
They talk a lot about balance throughout the series and we see in Korra that there are airbenders born to normal/other bending parents so the line would have continued. Idk magic or something haha

Ursa was a seriously underrated character for someone we only see in flashbacks of Zuko's and Azula's childhood...her love life before she met and married Ozai was somewhat like Romeo & Juliet even though it wouldn't be written for centuries and what she does to protect Zuko is truly outstanding. Like she tells Zuko, a mother will do whatever she takes to protect her baby. Also she learns how to make the potion because her parents are herbalists
Having gone back and watched the show several times, you can piece a reasonable amount of this together from 'Zuko Alone' and 'The Day of Black Sun - Part 2'. Very easy to miss on the first watch. It also relies on the assumption that the things Azula and Ozai are truthful, which isn't always the best policy since 'Azula always lies'. The show doesn't cover anything after Ursa is exiled/flees, which is where the comic fits it (assuming you can find a copy).

Loving all this Avatar content!! I could have sworn that comic was actually animated, but I asked my sister and she said it's just a comic and that I borrowed it from her a year ago. Either way, the comics are a really great read - and surprisingly easy to find in Canada.
When I rewatched ATLA I swore I remembered there being a flashback scene where it was explained that Zuko's mom killed his grandfather with a colorless odorless gas and had to leave when Ozai realized what she did and said "Well I wouldn't want to also fall victim to a colorless odorless gas..." and I was so confused when the scene never came up during the re-watch. I started to think I must have imagined the whole thing, because I even asked my siblings and husband about it and they had no idea what I was talking about, but now thanks to your video I know I'm not crazy lol (Though I do now wonder why I remember seeing that scene if it never existed in the show and the fact that I've never even heard of the book "The Search" until watching this video)

Seems like a really sad ending for Ursa. Probably knew that, even with a new face, she’d never have the life and love with Zuko that she had before. Instead of dealing with that suffering-through-distance thing, she decided to start a new life with an old lover. Bittersweet
One question though: If Azulon was so against the idea of making Ozai the next Firelord, then why did he choose Ozai over Iroh when he died? I haven't read the comics or graphic novels so idk
He didn't, that's the thing. That was the clue to the audience that something was amiss. We'd just seen him reject Ozai's idea, he turns up dead, and suddenly he said Ozai was the heir? Nope, something's not right there. And that's because Ozai had his father killed, with Ursa's help. That was the missing detail there.
I finally watched ATLA for the first time last week and honestly. I'm actually really glad I waited so long in a way, because now I'm getting all these notifications for theories about it and I don't have to worry about spoilers any more. :)

The subtext is that she chooses to forget her children because it means she will also forget the abuse she suffered from fire lord Ozai. If you pay attention to her behavior around him and around the castle it has all the hallmarks of abuse and just makes sense because fire lord ozai is the literal worst.

Ursa didn't cold-heartedly choose to forget her children. After the Mother of Faces gave her a new face, she sensed that Ursa was greatly depressed by her old life that it was much of a burden to her. So Koh's mum offered to wipe Ursa's memory. Ursa hesitantly agreed to it.
Ozai has probably subjected Ursa (like the momma bear constellation) to so much mental trauma that she knows if she were in his vicinity to the slightest she would be caught! Do we not remember how azula figured out that zuko was going to meet iroh in the prisons? Do we not remember how manipulative her daughter is to get her way? Do we forget all of this and judge her for the choice of a new life for herself? She sacrificed herself for zuko because she loves him, but ozai thinks emotions are weakness, do we think he’d let her keep sacrificing herself?
Can we also talk about how Ozai was kind of like Zuko, in that he was not his dad's favorite, even though he tries desperately to earn his father's love? Funny parallel there, although they both took such opposite directions, because Zuko realized he didn't need his toxic father's love, but Ozai still can't let go of not being his dad's favorite.
Also, in defense of Ursa, the comics also show that Ozai was pretty abusive to Ursa (gee, what a shocker!). Like, so much so that she was afraid to step into the palace again, even though Zuko was now Firelord, because the royal palace brought back so many bad memories. So, I can kind of see why she would be like "I want to completely forget all the trauma Ozai gave me."

This is actually, like, the 4th video I've read on this subject. I almost didn't watch because I now know the story so well just from these videos. However, this is SCB and how do I NOT watch their content, right?
So glad I did, because this is actually the BEST version I've seen. Mostly because it does tie-in/remind people crucial scenes from the series, whereas a lot of the other videos just assume you already know/remember all of that. Also, I feel J went in to a lot more detail (ironically, given he left off the ending) that gave me a much more complete and well-rounded look at the story, as opposed to past videos. For instance, NONE of the other 3 videos I had watched ever mentioned that Zuko's mom originally wanted to switch out her face in order to potentially keep an eye on her children without Ozai knowing.

It might skip it and continue the cycle without the air, but personally i think that trough spirit shenanigans someone would sonner or later be born with airbending abilities and/or they might be "awakend" in other people, kinda like it does in LOK bringing itself to balance
They talk a lot about balance throughout the series and we see in Korra that there are airbenders born to normal/other bending parents so the line would have continued. Idk magic or something haha

When J showed tweets that asked about what happened to Zuko’s mom, one of them asked why Iroh was the only person to see Roku’s dragon.
Ursa was a seriously underrated character for someone we only see in flashbacks of Zuko's and Azula's childhood...her love life before she met and married Ozai was somewhat like Romeo & Juliet even though it wouldn't be written for centuries and what she does to protect Zuko is truly outstanding. Like she tells Zuko, a mother will do whatever she takes to protect her baby. Also she learns how to make the potion because her parents are herbalists

Having gone back and watched the show several times, you can piece a reasonable amount of this together from 'Zuko Alone' and 'The Day of Black Sun - Part 2'. Very easy to miss on the first watch. It also relies on the assumption that the things Azula and Ozai are truthful, which isn't always the best policy since 'Azula always lies'. The show doesn't cover anything after Ursa is exiled/flees, which is where the comic fits it (assuming you can find a copy).
Imagine how heart breaking it would be to see your kids but to never talk to them again. I cant blame her for wanting to forget.

When I rewatched ATLA I swore I remembered there being a flashback scene where it was explained that Zuko's mom killed his grandfather with a colorless odorless gas and had to leave when Ozai realized what she did and said "Well I wouldn't want to also fall victim to a colorless odorless gas..." and I was so confused when the scene never came up during the re-watch. I started to think I must have imagined the whole thing, because I even asked my siblings and husband about it and they had no idea what I was talking about, but now thanks to your video I know I'm not crazy lol (Though I do now wonder why I remember seeing that scene if it never existed in the show and the fact that I've never even heard of the book "The Search" until watching this video)

Seems like a really sad ending for Ursa. Probably knew that, even with a new face, she’d never have the life and love with Zuko that she had before. Instead of dealing with that suffering-through-distance thing, she decided to start a new life with an old lover. Bittersweet
One question though: If Azulon was so against the idea of making Ozai the next Firelord, then why did he choose Ozai over Iroh when he died? I haven't read the comics or graphic novels so idk

He didn't, that's the thing. That was the clue to the audience that something was amiss. We'd just seen him reject Ozai's idea, he turns up dead, and suddenly he said Ozai was the heir? Nope, something's not right there. And that's because Ozai had his father killed, with Ursa's help. That was the missing detail there.
