Cas, you’re explaining organizing verbally while physically demonstrating it. This type of teaching is easy for most any kind of learner. Most people don’t learn by just reading, we might memorize “facts” but after the test, it’s next to impossible for most people to retrieve that information from the brain much later on. However when you watch someone do something and hear them explain it as you/they DO it’s appealing to a kinesthetic, and auditory learner at the same time. The more senses one can use while learning how to do something the better their chance of remembering, and success in repeating it later. So maybe you’re not a math teacher but you’re still a successful teacher in you’re own speciality, organizational skills. Trust me when I say there are lots of school teachers who are great at their craft but not great organizers. Some can do both but not all. Yet all those skills are valuable.

Organizing tip for stickers… I’ve used 2 different methods. Again, follow the first rule…if you are not using them, declutter & donate! But if you do use and want to keep stickers, I either use an accordion file folder and label each tab by season/category/theme/color, or use a 3 ring binder and sheet protectors! This has helped keeping them organized and easy to sort through, and I find we actually use them because we can actually find them!

You are a teacher, a different one. You teach adults who by the way go to class because they really want to be there. Also, you make your class digital. You organize, summarize and explain each thing you want to communicate. You give the theory (cluterbug types, tendencies, personalities in relation to organization), then you explain how to apply that in different scenarios. You even discuss possible errors and exceptions.

This video has come at just the right time for me. It is my light bulb moment! I am in the process of redoing my studio. To be honest, the studio is for quilting and painting..... and it has my bed in it! I live in a one bedroom apartment.
I ordered an L shaped desk, one side for my sewing machine, the other for watercolor painting. So far the plan sounded easy...... the situation is, I have 4 sterilite 36” towers of drawers (all neatly labeled, btw), filled with stuff I use, and some, I forgot about! In front of them are 2 TV tray tables that I use for painting. My sewing machine is on an antique table that I will move into my dining area. The new desk will get rid of the “double parking” in front of the drawers. Three of the drawers towers are going away. I’ve sorted and purged and organized what to keep in the remaining drawers..... all art stuff. The sewing stuff is my next challenge. I have way too much. I used to make purses and totes, charity quilts, (2300) masks, all donated.....I have bags of zippers, elastic, buttons, trims...... some/lots of stuff was given to me....yeah...... I hate to get rid of it.....what if I need it? ...... like you and your stickers! Planning a nice neat .... minimalist.... work area, was one thing..... achieving it is quite different!
Thank you for this video, I needed this right now! I think I can live with 20% of the stuff I have. I don’t think I will live long enough to use all that I have!
Do you want any buttons, trims, elastic or Velcro...... I can send you some!
Btw, I’ll come and teach your kids if you want to trade places and organize my studio!

I purged but I do not have the "where to put it". I have been looking for affordable furniture and storage items but with the pandemic that has been super hard. So, the things that do not have a home just sit in middle of house. Siiigh...I totally understand the premise now everything is to have its place principle.

Typing this in the hope it’ll help me remember it, but going to check out the printable next-thanks, Cas!!!
(Step 0: Declutter and have a trash bag and donation box ready.)
    SPACE:
Step 1: Sort into big categories.
Step 2: Purge (whatever you missed from your decluttering and) anything that doesn’t belong in that area.
Step 3: Assign a home for your sorted categories (e.g. a drawer or shelf). Then grab anything else around the house that needs to be moved into this assigned space.
Step 4: Place containers into the assigned space, keeping your organizational style in mind (if unsure, start with larger categories and containers).
Remember: You’re organizing to fit your space, not your stuff. Soooo make sure to select your favorites first. Hopefully this will make the next step easier.
Step 5: Eliminate (discard, donate, or put away whatever’s left).

"I'm keeping it out of guilt".... Wow! That hits home for me. Also thank you for that intermediate step of the white boxes and setting up the space first. I've been trying in vein for years to be organized and failing spectacularly. It's because I'm trying to make my space fit my things instead of making my things fit the space. It's so simple but embarrassing that I never though like that. I mean, I literally bought four huge 6' cube cases from Ikea before.

I'm a teacher. You teach by Show and Tell. It's the ONLY way some of us visuals will learn. Please keep up the demos that you explain. And...squirrel!

Loved this! Make space for the area not the stuff - yes!! Something I am slowly learning. Also as a teacher I think you are a great teacher of organizing and the fact that you are helping your kids is a win already and that they are encouraged to do work :)

Loved make space for the area not the stuff. I'm moving to a SMALL (FOR ME) SPACE & have been a little bit freaked out about the lack of kitchen space/storage. It's just me, but I liked a lot of kitchen items. Purging is hard because I want to have a lot of kitchen items, dishes, pots & pans, bakeware, glasses, cups.

Ok, I was going to "like" this video anyway, bc you are brilliant, and I love your teaching style! Then you said, "... but you watch this anyway!" And I HAD to like it!! Keep up the great work! I've homeschooling for years, some days are better than others, and each child has they're own learning style, and each parent has they're own teaching style! As long as we find a happy medium, and teach with love, it's all good!! Love ya!

You gave me the love of matching storage containers and the enjoyment of making fun name tags and laminating them. When I first watched your videos you made ones that included redecorating spaces. Are you going to do any of those types of videos in the future? I miss them as you make them both informative and fun and always provided me with inspiration and ideas. So to me you are a wonderful teacher!

Hi Caz, I agree teachers are awesome, you made a point that a lot of people don't get, you have to organise for the room you have not the amount of stuff .

Well for the record you do a great job explaining organization etcetera in a way that we can understand it. We keep coming back because you do such a good job at it! That concept of organizing to your space and not to your stuff was really life-changing to me when I first heard it.
