In 1998, she released the track 'The Power of Goodbye' from this album as a single, but I think THIS song should’ve been a single… Also, you’re right about the eastern influence; this was her "yogi" era, her Indian/eastern-influenced phase. She was actively practicing ashtanga yoga, just gave birth to her daughter, and was in a spiritual place. Her backup singer (from 1990-2001) Donna DeLory is also a well-known yogi vocalist and kirtan singer. So that was another influence. Also, she was definitely inspired by one of the first artists to be signed to her label, Maverick Records-a young Alanis Morissette… Alanis I has always been known for her Indian-style scales (and modulations, chord progressions, etc), and retrospective lyrics. Plus her brother, Wade Imre Morissette, is another iconic kirtan/yogi singer. Alanis has songs like 'Uninvited', 'All I Really Want', 'Right Through You', 'You Learn', and 'Thank U', among others, that clearly sound Indian in their scales.
Just found your channel, and wow your reaction to this video made me fall in love!! Your emotions and reaction was ethereal. I can't say enough about it, I really hope you have more Madonna reactions out there, or coming soon.
I bought this album "Ray of Light" when it came out and I was 18 - my life never was the same. I still could listen to this whole album für ages. I recommend to listen her albums chronologically, even the song she sang before her solo carreer and the ones that aren't on her albums - that would be a very impressive and inspiring journey
Martin, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful memory and also for your suggestions as well. I’m really interested to deep dive into her artistry And I will try to do it 🙏❤️😊
Wow!!! First the language you heard i think it’s Hindu like her song Shanti in this album. Also the sound is an influence of Brasil club 99 like she said in an interview in 1998. Lyrics i think it’s a love deception of what she lived with Ingrid (maybe). And finally it’s a trio of songs (frozen the power of goodbye and this one) that talks about love and deception! It’s her greatest album!!! Im a old fan since 1985!
Definitely, I need to listen to the whole album… I assume With Madonna’s music we can be forever young… Lots of love and have a great day my friend ❤️🙏🙂
