I’ve been a rock/metal fan since I was maybe 10… 46 years ago… and Band Maid has rocketed into the small selection of groups that I consider the best of the best. They are terrific composers and players and they put out song after song, album after album, and they just do not miss. Ever. The list of bands so consistently great is a short one!

Please watch the next song "Domination - live" from the same show on their channel: in the middle of the song the ladies gathered around Akane the drummer just to make faces at her trying put her of beat. Great reaction and welcome to the wonderful world of Band-Maid! These ladies absolutely ROCK and they always make me smile. The next song in this concert was Domination. That last cord of Play that was ringing out is the first thing you hear on the Domination Official live video. Definitely worth checking out as it's often the gateway drug for a lot of folks falling down the Band-Maid rabbit hole. Bass could have been a bit more present in the mix IMO but it is still a fantastic performance. Another one that really shows off their diversity is a twofer of Manners/Black Hole from an online concert they streamed during the pandemic. Manners is a great bluesy rock throwback and Black Hole? Well... you'll see

@@Beldvlmnt Want to hop on and say thanks, too. Great ear. Great attention to detail. Instant sub.
Lots of reactors don't pick up at all on Misa (the bassist) switching between picking and slapping, even when she does it right when the camera's focused on her bass, but she'll do it seamlessly like a magic trick, in the middle of a phrase, just because she prefers the sound of one or the other for this or that note. If you're interested in watching it, she goes pick to slap on camera in Onset live (ruclips.net/video/mVrN-j_Uc0U/видео.html) during a solo, and slap to pick for like the last four notes of the first part of her solo in the Influencer MV (ruclips.net/video/e_bEf1C0spY/видео.html).
If you want a better look at their gear, they have some white room instrumentals that are well lit and don't have a bunch of lasers and crap, but they don't show the mics on the drum kit, I think. e.g. ruclips.net/video/ygdZLBRy1uE/видео.html -- You might have some issues with recognizing some of their custom instruments. Rhythm guitar/second vocal/pigeon Miku plays with rare Zemaitis guitars, and the bassist gets some custom basses made by a small Japanese manufacturer, Black Cloud.
The drummer, Akane, gets a long solo in Freedom live (ruclips.net/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/видео.html), where you might be able to see more of her mic setup.

This band is nothing short of a miracle. They're all top tier musicians, and they've been together and working their asses off for ten years now. They are constantly pushing themselves to get better and better. They play mostly hard rock, but you'll hear metal, prog, stuff you can't categorize and they can do a beautiful ballad. They've done acoustic shows. Their music tends to make you smile, so if you're in a bad mood, put them on. They write a lot of singalongs like this into their music, and their shows are very crowd interactive. In short, they're more fun than the proverbial barrel of monkeys. As I've wondered before however, why a barrel of monkeys is the benchmark for fun is beyond me. I mean, truly.

One of the many things that makes Band-Maid special is that they rock hard and deliver the catchy choruses, and that appeals to everyone. But their musicality and composition is so complex and deep that the music theory geeks and engineers have a field day analyzing their brilliance
They have a fan base similar to that of Rush.

Miku rhythm guitarist plays Zemaitis guitars through EVH 5150
MISA on bass plays Black Cloud Basses here through Orange (from January she now uses Aguilar amps)
Akane on drums uses Tama drums & Zildjian cymbals.
All of these are sponsorships. Not sure of the mics.

Best band this (albeit short) century. You can see the talent, listen to more and you’ll come to recognize the diversity in rock, metal and punk sub-genres yet all have a very pop hooks, as in catchy and anyone can sing or hum along to. Lyrics are 3/4 Japanese and a quarter English yet as you heard the crowd is singing along and integral to the music.
As far as production goes, they do have backing tracks for group vocals and any synths on a given song. They play to a click track. This was also for a blu-ray. There was likely some very minor cleanup on some of the tracks but 99% of what you heard there is genuine. Saw them in Chicago last fall and what you heard was crisper and cleaner than this video. Tremendous credit goes to the sound crew because it couldn’t have sounded better and any mistakes during the concert instrumentally I couldn’t catch it. And that’s what’s great is that if you watch any fancams, it’s still limited by the mic on their phones, but the actual balance and their playing is always on point.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. If you had known B-M earlier, you, Canadian, could have a chance to see them live in NY or other northern states during their 2022 US tour. Just so you know, they have just started 2023 US tour on May 14 (9 gigs) and will go on North American tour (US + Mexico) in August.
We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

To do on Play as opposed to Onset or Domination where they have the camera on her doing it is really something. I watched reactors miss on those songs while pausing at the Bass solo.

Welcome to you newest rabbit hole! Band-Maid’s musicianship is incredible! And all their songs out a smile on your face! Another great video from the same show you just saw is Domination(Official Live)! Each member has a spotlight out on them throughout the song. OR their latest music video is an instrumental that really tells a story - From Now On. But really, any song you pick will be amazing!

Hey man....nice to hear a reviewer who actually gets it !!!!!!! That part where the drums and the bass brake it down together answering the guitar and the they get back into the song with the double kicks.... so F...king tight. This is seriously talented band. Check out an often over looked song....Real Existence....but you have to hear the LIVE version !!! The power of this band is on full display !!!!

No, it's a Mesa with the PRS and an Orange with the Bass. BAND-MAID really shine LIVE. All the Shibuya Line Cube stuff is great. But don't forget 'Real Existence' LIVE. Unfortunately most of the Studio Coast and Zepp Tokyo LIVE stuff was pulled from RUclips ahead of a DVD release, but it can still be found on Bilibili.

I saw them last week in Austin. Killer. The PRS player is using a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier (and a petal board that could control Mars missions). These girls are serious business. You should check out a recent vid. Manners - Black Hole from a pandemic stream or Puzzle from a 2023 ahow in Tokyo. Or for an MV, check out From Now On. Their MVs give you a good look at the gear.

The Bass Player - MISA plays with a pick and slaps in the same song and changes from one to the other very quickly!
From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right?
(Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick.
    (Chris): Show me how.
(Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm.
(Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how)
(Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever.
(Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome!
MIKU KOBATO - RHYTHM GUITAR - plays Zemaitis C24MF (Zemaitis Endorsement - with a Signature Guitar called Flappy Pigeon) - EVH Amps
    - Writes the lyrics - Has only been playing guitar for about 7 years. Was the singer but took a back seat voluntarily!
KANAMI TONO - LEAD GUITAR - plays PRS Custom 24 (PRS Endorsement) - Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier.
    - Writes the music (one interview she states that she has a database - 2 years worth?!?!)
MISA - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - (Black Cloud Endorsement) Orange AB200B MKIII Amps
AKANE HIROSE - DRUMS - Plays TAMA drums with Zildjian Cymbals - Roland KD-A22 (Possibly an Endorsement with TAMA and ROLAND)
SAIKI ATSUMI - VOCALS - Sennheiser microphones and DPA Microphones - Tricked into the costumes when joining BAND MAID.

As an ex guitar tech, (now a retired geriatric), if your guitar guy has his act together it should not need to be tuned sharp and should stay in tune for pretty much the whole gig.
