I am pleased to share with you some handmade methods of traditional Chinese cuisine, which required a lot of time and effort in the era without machines. Nevertheless, our ancestors were very wise and adept at discovering food that was beneficial to humanity. We filmed this film not only to record the craftsmanship of traditional cuisine, but also to let more people understand it!❤❤❤

The growth of malt takes about 10 days, and we place them in a dark place while keeping the leaves yellow. If exposed to sunlight, they will turn green, and the process of making maltose is very healthy without any additives. We have this thick syrup to make rice candy, which looks like a crispy and crunchy rice cake, very delicious!❤❤❤

We have a similar sweets. It's called Rice Krispees. It's made from puffed rice but instead of Maltose and Sugar to bind them together, melted Marshmallows are used. It's good.

麦芽糖懐かしいです‼️私の祖母も麦芽糖を作っていました。日本にも同じ様な「おこし」と言われる米菓子があります。おばあちゃんは何でも作れて素晴らしいですね✨️😊
日本は中国の隣国で、多くの食事は似ているようなもので、マルトースは健康で人体に吸収されやすい糖食です！米花糖は香ばしくて脆くて、麦芽糖はとても良い接着剤で、両者は結合して香ばしくて脆くて、甘さは適切で、とても良い茶菓子です！❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

The rice candy looks like Rice Krispie squares we make in USA. They look yummy. Very hard eork to make. 💞
I was going to say the same thing.
Same concept! Now we know the original form and how factories make puffed rice(Rice Krispies) for us. Marshmallow is basically just sugar so she made sugar/maltose syrup instead of it! Looks delicious!

Question from a curious country-raised Canadian...how does Grandma keep birds and mice from eating the drying/curing rice if it's left uncovered for long stretches of time? Also wondering if there's a market on Spadina or Gerrard that sells these treats...
I wonder who first discovered this long process?
Without a cover on the rice, how do you keep the chickens and other birds from eating it as it dries?
