It seems to be Starscream’s destiny to end up drifting through space at some point
I remember being pumped about the intro when I first saw it in 2012 when I was learning more about Transformers, and it felt so cool to the point where I recorded it in my 3DS. A few years later I got to try it out when I visited a collector's shop that sadly closed (sucks too because it was one I wish to revisit more), and I was pretty annoyed with the gameplay itself. I think what you mentioned sums up what I don't like, and your video made me learn about some stuff that I didn't know about from this game (even if it's no good news). I'm working on a post for my site about my history as a TF fan, and one for my least favorite games of all time; you'll get shout outs in those because I don't think anyone else delved into this game like you have.

Nice review. I remember buying a reissued Transformer back in 2003 that had a disc with a trailer for this game.
A lot of the cut scenes in the trailer looked very close to scenes in the animated movie.
I don't think it seems a bad game. The characters look great and the chance to play as obscure characters like Snapdragon (one of my first childhood Transformers) looks like it would be great fun.

I'll admit to a bit of hyperbole in this review, but I stand by that looks are deceiving. The footage I recorded for this game was an absolute chore to make look even this good. The presentation is bare bones, and the gameplay is VERY challenging. I don't recommend playing it because the effort I put in was unpleasant for me, if you find enjoyment in it then I commend you for having a higher tolerance than I for this game's faults.
Considering it's Japan, it's most likely following the Takara timeline meaning no Rebirth, Kiss Players is canon, and the story picked up in 2010 aka season 3, Headmasters, etc.
I'm betting one of the producers really liked HE-DOMASU-TAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I had and still have this game to this day, I had no idea it’s hard to find and that it’s not heard off. I found mine at a yard sale😂
I actually played a different version of the game when I was small, where it was like an slightly expansion version. The difference is that you can actually select the stage, the game has no opening(straight away to the menu), the loading picture is different than the normal game, and like u have to run through 3 stage of bomb instead of one in the first mission. I don’t know if its the best takara version or not, but I never got to track down the game as my uncle gave it away and it was too late by the time I realised it😭😭
I admit I hadn't considered the Takara Best version might have been different in any way, I just thought it would be a glorified rereleased version. Something to consider if I ever decide to revisit this.
@@DevasiaMentalityGaming I tried finding online for the best takara version hoping it would be the different version that I played, but so far no luck as its a very old game. Hope I actually get to play that version again someday 😢
Those are basically what they were called in Japanese, Optimus is often called convoy while the autobots and deceptions are called Cybertrons and Destrons.
Which is is still weird because the planet is still called Cybertron lol.
It should be noted, however, that when talking about Japanese material, Western fans typically opt to render the Japanese pronunciation of the planet's name as "Seibertron" (pronounced "Say-ber-tron") in order to distinguish it from the Japanese name of the Autobots, the "Cybertrons" (pronounced "Sigh-ber-tron", like in English). With that said, some Japanese sources (what I could gather from TFWiki, at least) apparently decided to render the planet's name as "Cybertron" in English instead, while the Autobot's names are written in Japanese like usual.
But when Diaclone was revived in the mid 2010s, Takara Tomy used American names of the Autobots & the Decepticons in Japan since Optimus Prime was no longer called Convoy there anymore.
At least there is G1 transformer game on the ps2. Because most transformer games had to tie with the cartoon series like Amarda. I had this one when I was kid, I cleared the game within a few weeks and I loved it a lot. Thought the voice acting is a bit cheesy but still, it has it’s entertaining value to me. Ahhh...I wish there is more G1 transformer games. On the switch, ps4 or hell. Every console and smart phones!

This review made me laugh so hard. Cant play the dinobots tough luck control ruin forever mission failed title screen "replace it with game over yeah" difficult depending if its easy or hard enemies and frustrating gameplay.
Why does Megatron sound so much more like Peter Cullen in this game than the guy playing Optimus Prime? X'D
