How does COSPAS-SARSAT work to find 406Mhz emergency beacon?

    At 3:06 the animation is incorrect. The PLB is showing as transmitting to GNSS which sends a signal to the LUT. The PLB actually gathers GNSS data, encodes it, and then that data transmits to the SARSAT system via 406 MHz. The GNSS satellite does not relay any SAR signal.

      @PrepperNation_H Hey I saw your comment and wanted to admit that I was incorrect (I had old information). MEOSAR is relatively new; since 2016, they started adding MEOSAR search-and-rescue payloads to GNSS satellites. I just read on wikipedia (couldn't find the exact number on NOAA) that there are now 48 medium-earth-orbit satellites of various primary purposes with MEOSAR payloads, including GPS satellites with MEOSAR search-and-rescue payloads.
