I owned this record as a teen. This song hits harder as you grow older. Still holding on tight to a world gone astray. Still rockin' this massively underrated gem!
I first heard it when I was 13, first time I ever had booze too. Here I am hammered at 29, it still hits hard. Turn em on again, one more time for me, my friend.
I never wanted to know Never wanted to see I wasted my time Till time wasted me Never wanted to go Always wanted to stay 'Cause the person I am Are the parts that I play So I plot and I plan Hope and I scheme To the lure of a night Filled with unfinished dreams I'm holding on tight To a world gone astray As they charge me for years I can no longer pay
Criss Oliva, what a monster! Every note is pure perfection! Amazing music, I miss this band so much. Every album from Power of the night is a masterpiece.
I am only 18 years young! & I appreciate this kind of music to the fullest, only because of my father! I can dig deep down into classic rock history only because of an incredible father I have! 🙌😎
I was lucky to have a dad who loved music and turned me on to lots of great music when I was a kid, too. I’m 49 now and my father has been gone for over 25 years but if he were around I would have him listen to this tune and he would love it, I’m sure. Music is magic.
This part is also a part of their song Believe that is wonderful too and when I fell lonly and I need some one I lessen to it is like a prayer to me and make me believe more and more of existing of god
Although it's a sad song, the character in the story at least senses the hope that's always there. I think that's important in life because that hope can lead to better days if you let it.
One of the best songs i have hear in my life. I love the piano in the song and the chorus. the chorus is so special in this song and this screaming of the singer in the chorus make the song to look so emotional and the lyrics are so so greate.
I love this song, Im so glad I redescoverd it. To me what made this music good was it was not the top forty pop that was just churned out by a record company hack. There are some real thought and emotions in the words of this song, and the music.
This song is what first caused me to believe that when you die, you don't go to heaven or to hell, but if you passed a happy person and/or died making others happy, you would find yourself in a personal nirvana of sorts, surrounded by the things, physical, mental or fictional, that made you happy in life or helped you make those other folks happy. But by this margin, suicide is not the answer, it insinuates that you passed in discomfort, disillusionment, or dislikeness. No one wants to go unhappy I'd like to imagine, but sometimes it's harder to control that.
Standin out back by myself having a smoke when I realised that this song is about me. Smoke's almost done gonna head back in and play some online games.
He is filled with a longing for the past, longing for the days when there were crowds of people in his life. The person I am is only the part I play for the crowds. Turn the lights on once more; I don't want it to end, I need a glorious finale, but I would rather not see the credits roll. When the crowds are gone, When everyone goes home.
Heard this song for first time at 48...it puts shivers!! One of the song with the hardest lyrics I've ever heard!!

I heard this song when I was a kid in highschool, I'm in my 50's now. Still has a special place in my heart.
Same here. Cheers from Italy 🤟.
Under rated and overlooked. This song is just incredible. Lyrics are amazing.
one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard....
Greatest ballad of all time. No question.
This and summer's rain are two very sad songs but very beautiful and show the talent and creativity of savatage.
I never wanted to know
Never wanted to see
I wasted my time
Till time wasted me
Never wanted to go
Always wanted to stay
'Cause the person I am
Are the parts that I play
So I plot and I plan
Hope and I scheme
To the lure of a night
Filled with unfinished dreams
I'm holding on tight
To a world gone astray
As they charge me for years
I can no longer pay
Strongest line in any song for a long time.

Amy Lovendaal most of savatage music is like that and explains how underrated they are and how they are left behind by the media and the world sadly
I wasted my time till time wasted me..

I like this song, but the meaning of the song. I just only understand little mean.
What mean " When the growds are gone" is? Please someone help me?
