Yea it's difficult sorting through all the black series figures to make a good Jabba's palace. So far I have Skiff Lando, Boushh Leia and of course Bib Fortuna. Also some bounty hunters.
Since last year, I had the feeling there would be a "new" Jabba for the ROTJ 40th line, but now that we've seen it, all they had to do is include a cardboard model of the throne (slab) to make this usable. From the moment you see the photo on the front, it looks ridiculous, with Jabba sitting on the floor. Including the railing makes it even more of a glaring omission. The Salacious Crumb has always been the wrong size as well. It's just lanky and wrong-looking. We "settle" too much as collectors. Even better, include a plastic, detailed slab, make the set 100 bucks even, and call it a day!
Thanks for the nice review. 🙏I have the older version with the copyright imprint on the bottom. Bought it used on Ebay, but for me, having this new version for the new SB Crumb and the hookah setup is worth it, since I always felt Jabba was never displayed right without the other goodies. To those complaining about how much it is, I guess it's all relative. I'm a "cup half full" person generally, and I see this as a bargain vs. the SDCC version and will buy now since I can see this one going up when it's gone also. Also, think about it this way, for the amount of mass and plastic you're getting, Jabba is easily worth the price of 2 current deluxe figures, depending how important ROTJ is to you. 😊MTFBWY
I can see both sides. $90 is a lot, but then again Hasbro's regular figures are too expensive for me generally speaking. But if you want Jabba with his accessories, your choices are to get this, get the original SDCC set for twice as much, or to go the custom route (which honestly might not be a bad choice!). I do think the people saying they should have included a full throne at this price are not being realistic though
The original 1980s vintage Jabba was a peg warmer. If you watch the classic 1980s slasher film, 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' there is an entire toy aisle dedicated to only Jabba's Playset. Because of the price, I hope this 2023 set has the same fate. Because I want to find this clearance asap. I got lucky and found 2 retro Biker Scout sets for half off at Wal-Mart a few months back
@rebeccadomornay I think you need to rewatch Silent Night, Deadly Night again. There were only 4 boxed Jabba Playsets on the shelf, one opened display set, and 2 Luke Skywalker carded RotJ figures. There certainly wasn't a whole aisle of them on the toy store set or in any scene.
The ridiculous prices that Hasbro is placing on these figures is insane. You can thank the Scalpers for that. For a couple of years before and during the pandemic people were spending $70-$150.⁰⁰ on Black Series figures. When the Pandemic hit scalpers bought out stores. Everything they had they'd buy. From action figures to Die-Cast cars. Then they'd sell them on eBay for 5X's to 10X's the cost. Hasbro cut production and they became the scalpers. Now the 3.75" action figures cost what the 6" Black Series figures used to cost. And the 6", well they are $30.⁰⁰+. I'm done. If I see a clearance figure I might buy it.
I wish Hasbro would give us salacious crumb as an individual figure or in a bundle with Oola like the power of the force version in the future, because I have the first Jabba and I wouldn't buy this one just for salacious crumb.
I got my original SDCC version of Jabba at Kokomo Toys And Collectables way back when for the cost of💸$90.00...🤘🏼💯✔️ I also threw away the box that it came in...perhaps now I wish maybe I would've kept it...🤷🏻
I still love the 80’s Jabba figure but the mouth opening and closing feature is awesome but I see possible dry rot cracking later down the road, nice box opening video thanks for sharing
“He actually gets much more compact than I had expected” I ordered a salacious crumb puppet from Disney, and it came in a big box. He was rolled up, and was the size of a knife.
Hell yeah! That price is more comparable to the never released Figuarts Jabba; which still stings, cause it would've been the definitive Jabba...48 piece segmented tail and all.
I’ve preordered the Hot Toys die cast C-3PO from ROTJ, he includes a Salacious Crumb intended to pry 3PO’s eye socket out. I’m curious to see how it compares in scale with Sideshow’s version!
It just arrived yesterday! (Edit: Sorry, I thought you were talking about the throne room set from Book of Boba Fett. Yes, I am getting the vintage collection Jabba that is coming out next year as well.)
Was lucky enough to get this at SDCC and it is still my backdrop for my SW BS Villains to this day! Glad that Hasbro is giving others a chance to get this now, though I wouldn't mind an updated Jabba at this point with maybe a rubber tale that would bend. A hollow body would also be fun so you could put a figure in there the way the puppeteers had to go inside the Jabba suit (I seem to recall some customizer doing this years ago).
I don’t disagree with you, but including a full throne would be quite expensive at this scale. And it’s worth pointing out that most Jabba figures have historically come with just the railing (or nothing). Only the original vintage figure and the Walmart exclusive set from 2010 came with full thrones.
Lack of a throne slab makes this an easy pass for me. I would pay $20-30 more if it included the slab - that's at least the cost of having to improvise one.
I've got this and the slightly more expensive one pre-ordered from Hasbro. I lIve in the UK and it says sold out and it isn't in stock until October. I'm slightly worried that I won't get it despite me pre-ordering back when it was first announced. I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing and can't wait for him to arrive! Great video as always.
Looks like the new Jabba doesn’t have the white “drool” dripping from his lips. I never liked that - but without it it’s like something is missing (well, because it is!). But maybe just because it’s different. I always wondered why they didn’t give the eyes a glossy shiny overlay and thought for sure the new one would have it. And I wonder if the tongue was ever meant to be a moveable “feature” since it must be a separate part to have been positioned so differently? The black inner mouth also looks a bit strange in the new one, but again maybe just because I, not used to it. Overall I do like the colors better, and getting the extras is making me seriously consider getting this…
To my knowledge they have never commented on it one way or another (all of the news stories about the character being “banned” were based on something an artist who did some work for Disney said). However, I don’t expect them to release anything for her anytime soon, and perhaps never
Thanks for the post. I don’t understand Hasbro releasing Jabba without a throne. Thats like releasing MODOK without a chair. They made a great amount of ROTJ black series figures to recreate the scene with LuKE in front of Jabba on the throne. What was Hasbro thinking?!
Great comparison review of Jabba 6" scale and Crumb (who is has new changes to him). Comic Con Jabba set for $65 back then would've been great for $90 today, but here, they don't even include those great extras or display. The smaller 3 3/4" Jabba Playset with the base and pillows for October looks more complete for $89. But those high prices inspired me to sculpt my own Jabba. Thanks for the review!
I bought the Black Series Jabba, but they should have included the dais and Han in Carbonite. At the very least, put Salacious on a card back. All we're paying for is a "Kenner" box.
They coulda easily made a cheap slab base for jabba to sit on, dont even need to paint it. Its almost criminal what companies charge for some toys with barely any accessories. I just dont see a good value in alot of this stuff. If McFarlane can do a batmobile and figure with all new tooling for 75, how is this 90?
Jabba is one of the last things I’d still like to get for my OT collection, but that price is too much for me to swallow. Maybe he’ll end up on sale at some point, but I’m not gonna sweat it or get bent over for it. If it came with the actual throne and a plastic Han in Carbonite, I could probably hold my nose and do it.
Absolutely. Considering this is a kids toy (that adult collectors happen to collect), it shouldn't be more than the asking price, while including the throne.
I hate what exclusives are doing to the collecting community. Instead of bringing together a community of collectors, they make them competitors with the "winner" having bragging rights. Never mind how scalpers have gotten into buying the exclusives up with the intent of selling at many times their original cost - again dividing the community into the haves and have-nots.
$90 !!?? What a scam ! I wanted a Jabba figure so bad but damn that much for a reissue with a box you can't even keep for display... i guess I'll pass and live without Jabba lol
90$ seems insane for this especially given it’s all reuse I would have rather just a Jabba figure alone for just 40$ since I really want a jabba figure but not for 90$
I've still got my original Jabba from the 80's complete with his throne and other accessories... Still looks a good figure to this day.
Salacious b crumb is a new updated figure. Released in the creatures pack not too long ago on shop Disney
I just wished that Hasbro would make Tessek, Ree-Yees, Saelte Maure, and the various other aliens and skiff guards from ROTJ
Very cool jabba, now u just need a slave princess leia with chain & boba fett beside it.
Now we need a video review of Jabba's throne room, and another one on how to properly populate it.

I just realized through this unboxing I recycled my Salacious…

I second this. They did it with Carbonite Han, it's a glaring omission to not give us Crumb by himself. Maybe for the 50th anniversary... sigh.

$90 is quite a huge asking price, though its definitely a nice collector's piece, will try to hunt for one of these next year.

Jabba the Hutt wrapped by Christo!

When will they come out with the new jabba from the mandalorian? U know, the one from the episode with jack black...
😂😂
Been eagerly awaiting Hasro Pulse to send me mine. No idea where to put him, but I will find a place where he's easily seen by anyone.
Lack of a throne slab makes this an easy pass for me.

I wish they’d bring back the rancor pit, I missed out on that when they were 40 bux at toys r us several years ago
Ha! Very cool , I bet you do a good Kermit impression. ;)
I bought the sdcc version years ago, and built a throne for him.

2 figures for the price of one.
It sucks disney said going forward they will not release any “slave leia” figures or merchandise…….so no updated slave Leia Black series figure

The writing on the base not a fan better is the embossed one also continued use on the arm the mouth will split on both sides
I would love to buy this set but with Hasbros prices I’ve pretty much stopped collecting Star Wars because I need to buy food to eat instead

1:37 ❤️
So what are the chances of a slave or captive Leia now?
Pretty low I would say. If they were going to do it, it would’ve been for the 40th anniversary but it’s too late now
I got my original SDCC Jabba set for £50 about 6 yrs ago. I thought that was a bargain😊
I love the set
You will have to get a graded one like your black series sdcc one 😂

You can get the original Black Series Jabba on his own pretty cheaply on eBay. The main attraction of this set is the accessories and Salacious Crumb
Always makes me giggle when you call the figures "attractive" and then you are like oh wait.
