I grew up with undiagnosed OCD and made steps for myself to stop myself on how to overcome it internally. I try a new route in my brain whenever a tick comes on. The idea of not acknowledging and indulging it helps as well. It's surfaced again today, cause I've been really really stressed over work but it just means I have to readjust my indulgences again. Such as sleeping patterns and social interaction. That's works for me anyway.

I was dealing with this as a young child when I was 6 started with. Me having to bring a specific toy when I watch a specific TV show then it progressed later in life, causing severe stress, anxiety, and hindering my opportunity to enjoy life. I’m now 33 and my OCD compulsions are about 15 times worse than they ever were and now I’m supposed to just not do any compulsions whatsoever, this is crazy but I guess the guy listen to the doctors lol

Right, the info does come fast at points. Repeat the video many times. It will sink in, more and more guaranteed it will.

It just seems at the beginning that You cannot. It's hard. ERP is hard. But try and try. Once You get it right one time it will start to become easier. And each time You get it right it will become even easier. And in some time You'll find out that You actually do it automatically. Automatically let the thought come and go without engaging or suppressing. Do You remember learning how to whistle? It seemed impossible. But after thousand times you get it one time. And the barrier is broken....

I know, Justin, it's incredibly difficult. I've suffered with OCD for 22 years. It's been crippling at times, holds back all our potential. There have been a few times where I just said "no!" to doing my compulsions (mostly mental), and the relief that followed was amazing. It hurts at first, A LOT! But it after a time it begins to pass. However, I relapsed a few times. I'm still working on it.

Hi Family. I'm Rodney C Burris. I wrote a book about breaking cycles, and just wanted to share an excerpt of it here:
"Sometimes, we try to back out of situations before the danger gets too bad.
      Smart, right?
...The only problem with this is that we often try to leave using the very same techniques that got us into this situation to begin with; i.e., we try to quit smoking by smoking…'less'; we endeavor to quit gambling by 'gambling less'. Here’s another example: We are consumed with the idea of eating food, so we plan our lives around it, our trips around it and our daily activities around it, and thus we become overweight. To lose that weight, we plan what we can eat, when we can eat, where we can it, and with whom we can eat; for each day, all day, most days, and sometimes even weeks in advance. In other words, we are trying to lose weight by (still) being consumed with the idea of eating food. We are trying to break a cycle by using the same tactics that got us into that cycle to begin with.
This can even hold true for some of our relationship scenarios. We can be guilty of trying to get over those ‘bad boyfriends’ by falling in love with yet another version of that same ‘bad boy’ type, thinking 'this time it will be better.'
Instead, we should learn how to 'Get Off those Cycles, so we can Run!' "

Don't try to get rid of your compulsions want them, because you need to access the nerology of fear which involves the need to get away ( if your working on the really good stuff ) so that your amygdala can learn. check out reid willsons book stopping the noise in your head.

Hey Katie, my friends say I'm the nicest person I know. I can't even stand on a fly without guilt, and I think that might be my ocd. I have thoughts about being bi and killing people. even though I don't want to. and because I don't want to, it really stresses me out, so I find it hard to not react, any tips?

Mine is more about guilt and dutifulness than fear too. What do I confront using ERP if I'm not afraid of anything?

    • @Mysticallove121
      @Mysticallove121 3 года назад +2

Hi you are not your thoughts,if you were bi you would have already experimented and the severe thought of killing someone is that it’s such a shocking thought that scares you that fear alone of it makes you latch on to it,however usually with these thoughts it’s the opposite you would feel, you love people and wouldn’t harm anyone.if you were going to act on it, you would have but you have a loving heart that makes you care so deeply about the thoughts that affect you.I suggest you hug yourself and know you are not alone and thoughts come and go and will be replaced by another thought but always remember you are not the thoughts you think 💞

Thank you so much Katie, your videos are helping me a lot! I have a checking OCD - when I go to sleep I have to check many times whether the water is not leaking from a tap, whether the stove is off, whether the the doors are locked etc. etc. I am trying to apply the ERP but its really tough not to perform any compulsions. Any suggestions how should I help myself to treat my checking OCD? Thank you!

Is CBT with a Psychologist for OCD better than the rat poisons that my Psychiatrist put me on. I'm in the USA. Clomipramine/Anafranil made me feel terrible so I stopped it. On top of that my new doc told me I should stop the clonazepam/Klonopin because it increases the risk of dementia! I'm really losing trust in these doctors.

I think a psychologist who specializes in ocd will be best for you. Also look into healing your gut flora.

if I have compulsion in my mind, pure OCD, for example, I will feel guilty and bad about something, that make me feel like confessing. I know I should do that and I shouldn't think of it
but I feel discomfort and anxiety if I just ignore it, do you think I should I tell myself everything going to be okay?
Is it consider giving in to my compulsion?
How do I live with anxiety?

Is watching TV too much a compulsion? Or spending too much time on internet. Majority of our generation is doing this, idk if that need to change.

When any addiction starts to consume your life and ability to perform daily functions such as work, school etc, then it's too much. Yes, I agree, we all tend to spend too much time in front of screens. If you have issues like most with social media 24/7, DUMP IT NOW or pick just one. (not tiktok) What started as a method to connect people, is destroying a generation right in front of our eyes. I think it's sad!
