- We're Jarred and Ashley and we're currently building an off-grid camper van. This week we finally got to see some of the finishes of the van build come to life....our ceiling! We purchased 12ft. Cedar Tongue and Groove planks for our ceiling and we absolutely love the way it turned out.

For those who don't know our story, we're Jarred and Ashley and we typically spend a lot of our time traveling. Whether it's a weekend hiking adventure or a full international experience, we're always in (especially if it includes craft beer)! Just in 2020 alone, we had trips planned to Colorado, Sweden, Cancun, Iceland, etc. which most were effected by the global pandemic. In an effort to pivot given the circumstances, we ended up planning a trip to the PWN where we rented a RAM ProMaster for a week so we could explore the area safely. We fell in love with #vanlife. The experience, the peacefulness, the adventure, the community and the way that it brought us so much closer together.
Once that trip came to an end we KNEW we weren't finished experiencing everything that living in a van had to offer. With that being said, we just recently purchased a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter that we're converting into our own little #offgrid tiny home on wheels.
We're so excited to have you following along our journey. I hope that our videos inspire you in some way to go for the things that make you the happiest.

Turned out great! When things start to come together on the interior it gives a new spark of energy and excitement to keep pushing. Great job you two!
Thanks Ryan! I’m already ready to move in! 😜
Having a woman to help you like that is AWESOME.

Haha 😛
Looks good!
Has the s”strapping” you installed next to the metal ribs in the ceiling held up? I’m asking because it seems like that strapping wouldn’t hold very well being cantilevered like that.
what is the exact poly acrylic y'all used? it turned out so beautiful and I want to do the same!
I didnt quite catch it, what is the hardware specifically used ti put the 1x2 to the ribs?
Kreg hole and kreg hole screw
How is the cladding fixed to the battens please ? Thanks for the video 👍
Kreg screws?
pre drilled holes
Screws are designed for pull strength not shear strength. It'll be interesting to see if they sag.
Hey awesome work! Cool ceiling. I have question. Have 04 GMC SAVANA hitop with superb sound system. Gutted walls adding mineral wool and into doors too. For ceiling detail considering using my1/8”western cedar boards but instead of interlocking T&G would space them 1”apart.Reason being there are 1x4s embedded into fiberglass 9” apart leaving 3/4”space to be utilized as an air gap. I acquired some 1” semi rigid 2’x4’ mineral wool with one side foil backed and could install having foil facing toward exterior aiding air gap characteristics. On interior side use a black acoustic fabric then install the the cedar with 1”gaps maximizing mineral wools acoustic value. All door windows and 3 large windows are all operational along with Maxair fan for ventilation. Alls left is an effective thermal acoustic covering windows and will be good to go. Any recommendations and advice b much appreciated
What size brad nail do you use with the 1/2 planks and 1/2" furring strips. It's recommended to use 3x the thickness of the plank but you would have to be really careful with your nailing angle nailing into a 1/2" furring strip.
Nice lookin van! what thickness board did you use? Im thinking about using 7/8" on my van but not sure if thats too thick
1/8” cedar safe western cedar👍
I thought the main reason for paying for cedar is to get the benefit of the cedar smell? If you seal it you loose that great smell; so why?
What is the total cost ?
Looks great but you will want an air conditioner unit instead of the fan one day.
whats the point of having cedar if your just gonna cover up the smell?
Because we like it
Didn't hear how thick your tongue & groove Cedar is?
Well, open up yer Elfin ears, jackrabbit!
