  • Reflecting on the eleven years I cooked for The Queen. An incredible lady that dedicated her life to duty. From the first time I met her, to dancing with her and seeing on formal occasions and behind the scenes with her family.

As a senior officer in the United States Army who has served with many British counterparts in battle, I deeply understand the importance of the work Her Late Majesty the Queen had done during her reign. She was not only a monarch or a head of state for the Commonwealth but rather a symbol of unity for everyone. She will indeed be missed.

For seventy years, this beautiful Queen was the moral compass not only for the United Kingdom but much of the rest of the world-even for a simple American like me. Her dignity and kindness uplifted so many of us, giving us hope and courage to continue on in dark times. There is such an emptiness felt around the world now that she is gone. I’m American and my mom was a big fan of the royal family. My middle name is Elizabeth and my sisters is Margaret. My mom was married in 1949 and passed away in 2000. When I was going through her things, I found dozens of newspaper articles about the Queen, and even a 3 page article with all the details (including sketches) about her wedding dress from 1947 that my mom had saved from before her own wedding. I still have those articles. I’ve always admired the Queen’s dedication to her country, and can’t imagine the pressure she had when she took on her duties at such a young age. The thought that no other Monarch will surpass her 70 years as Queen makes me smile. Thank you for posting your lovely thoughts about Queen Elizabeth. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

I absolutely loved this story, especially the origin story. If you got a dream, no matter how silly you may think it is, all you have to do is go out on a limb and tell yourself "I want to do that". God was kind enough, and i had self belief. Enough that i actually got offers from many of those places. Twenty years later, i still laugh thinking about the guts i showed as a kid. Darrens story reminded me of just that. When people are young, they have to reach for the stars! Cheesy but really ..one can end up in the most wonderful places.

What a beautiful tribute to HMTQ. I was a little girl when she ascended to the throne and I always admired her even though she was the monarch across the sea. Truly, may she rest in peace.

AQ most wonderful and thoughtful set of memories from someone who quite obviously had the highest regard for Her Majesty. I too have my own memories of meeting the Queen, certainly not near as many as you have Darren. But having met her I can vouch that she was the most friendly person who would touch everyone's heart when they did meet her. I think that sense of duty and also the care for people she met, and perhaps for people she did not actually meet ran in her family. Her Majesty The Queen Mother once wrote a delightful letter to my own Grandmother, wishing her a full and speedy recovery from an operation she was about to have. Small things, but so thoughtful. I have no doubt that the Queen Mothers message to my Grandmother lengthened my Grandmothers life. The late Queen Elizabeth was that same caring person her own mother had been. Add the that Prince Phillip with his dry wit and sense of humour. He once had me chuckling with a joke he told myself and a few others. Three great people, so sadly missed. Like you I thought Her Majesty would go on for ever. Now we all have our memories of her, and you certainly seemed quite emotional sharing yours with the world. Thank you for those memories. Regards

I have always been fascinated by the Royal family. My only trip to London was in 1977. I was 13. It was the Queen’s silver jubilee.
She was indeed an amazing woman in all respects.
My daughter and her family live in London now so I will be visiting soon. I like in Birmingham, Alabama. We have an amazing food culture here. If you’re ever in town, please contact me!
    I’m a huge fan!!

So sorry for your loss. (& the UK's, and our, in the U.S.) Glad you're back and doing OK. I was thinking of you and wondering when you would post a commemorative video.
