As he slowly approached he saw a man somewhat blocking the road. He recognized the carnival and the man. It was his dad. They stopped to chat and not too far off in the distance a young boy was playing. It was himself. He asked his dad if he could go say something to him. His dad thought long and hard and replied "No son, let him be. You've had your summer let him have his". That older man himself respected his dad's wishes and told him he loved him. Something he always wanted to say but never got a chance. They hugged and and dad replied the same. He walked away and the carnival disappeared. Best lesson I've ever remembered from a TV show. If I ever go back in time.. I've had my summer.

This is one of those rare scenes where we can see a character at both the beginning AND the end of his character arc in the same moment. Spock Prime has reconciled his human and Vulcan halves and is comfortable with both while the younger Spock is still wrestling with the fact that he is a child of two worlds and that one of those worlds has been virtually obliterated. Time travel stories can be confusing, but they can also give awesome moments like this one!
Time traveling to your past self, *if done right,* can be the most helpfull thing both of you can ever have. Not reccomended, but that small sliver of hope can be hope the world over.
And especially in this case, Spock Prime is a -POSSIBILITY- not a certainty. It gives hope for the character to gain balance and synergy without knee-capping the story-building tension. ...but then Into Darkness made death a mere inconvenience so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Actually... so called Prime Universe from which Spock came is still there (as Picard series and photo of the original ToS crew in their movie uniforms (which would NOT exist in first place if said prime timeline would dissapear) showed in Beyond Darkness proved) when Kelvin timeline is kind of paraler Universe to it.
Speakjng of the two worlds part, my favorite quote that spock says is “seeing as i am half Human that makes Earth the only home i have left”. Although he’s spent his entire life on Vulcan he has compassion for Earth because it is technically his home too.
This is one of the nicest "passing of the torch" scenes in history. It has been said many times since that Zachary Quinto was nervous wreck during making of this scene and that there were concerns if he could pull it off, but reportedly they managed to make it in just one take.

Only Spock could convince Spock to do what feels right. His mother took forever to finally convince old Spock to embrace emotions healthily when needed. She saw the benefit of emotion tempered by logic and logic informed by emotion. Spock just taught himself this lesson without all the hardship he would need to face to learn it otherwise. And it def came in handy when facing Khan. Spock finally unloaded emotion

Spock held that realization in _The Undiscovered Country_ when he inferred to Lieutenant Valeris that logic is an _instrument_ to obtain wisdom-- it is not the _product_ of wisdom. I would go further and conject that _emotion_ is yet another instrument in that pursuit. Well-timed utilization of both logic and passion (with a little guidance from your friends) serve to find that wisdom.
To quote Dr McCoy from The Wrath of Khan: "He's really not dead, as long as we remember him." Rest in peace, Mr Nimoy. And thank you for all the great adventures. Live long and prosper.

Leonard Nimoy first portrayed Spock in 1964, for the first Star Trek pilot. Network hated it. Too cerebral. No shoot-em-ups. NBC wanted The Great Bird to get rid of that bossy No.1 woman exec and that satanic looking, slightly green Spock. Rewrite the script too. Gene got rid of literally everything except the ship and Spock. Nobody that cares will ever forget Leonard Nimoy.... Ps. No1 came back as Nurse Chapel, Majel was Gene's wife at the time and all... RIP to 😢all the good crew of The Enterprise that are no longer with us... To absent friends... 😢
So many people try to say their decisions are based on logic (and of course there's even idiots who think you can use logic to "think away" feelings that "don't make sense"), but it's been proven to be impossible to make decisions without it being based on *some* underlying emotion
Kirk always said he knew he'd die alone...and he did. McCoy and Spock weren't there when he died. Yes, Picard was there but Picard wasn't his family. Kirk died without any of his family. He was alone.

I loved everything about Leonard Nimoy’s presence in the movie. It was truly beautiful to see how he had arrived at a place of peace and self-acceptance. His calmness and wisdom tinged with humor. You know everyone who cared about him would be proud of how far he’s come.
Can't speak for other Trekkies, but I absolutely loved this scene. You see how the humanity and sensitivity of Kirk and McCoy have influenced Spock Prime's way of thinking: He imparts sound and gentle wisdom into his younger self, much like a loving human father would into his son. Very cool.
"captain, you almost make me believe in luck." Spock in the original series, remembering that line, the fact he now wishes his alternative/young self good luck is so heartwarming :3
I do now. I'm ashamed to admit that I never truly appreciated Leonard Nimoy until he was gone. Oh, I certainly THOUGHT I did. I admired and respected him. But I guess you just never truly know how valued people are until they... aren't anymore.
This film was my introduction to the Star Trek universe. I saw it when I was 9, and it blew me away. I then checked out the original series and its 6 feature films. The stories and characters of Star Trek resonate with me. Star Trek not only changed how I see storytelling, but it changed my life. Because of this, the Kelvin movies have always been special to me. Star Trek (2009) is the reason I became a fan.
Duuude me too! I was near the same age and in 4th grade a new student in my class saw me doodling the Enterprise and he introduced me to TOS TNG and the rest. That guy's been my best friend for 10 years now :)
"I am not our father." Oh yes you were, Mr. Nimoy. You were the father of a great character, named Spock, and for many young boys you were a bit of a father figure, and a friend. We miss you, so much.
When Spock travelled back in time Sarik would have been deceased, as would have his Mother. Knowing I could see my Father again would bring me some personal stability after losing my planet. However the question of ‘How are our Mother and Father?’ would be devastating to both Spock’s no matter which one asked. For different reasons of course.
Man when I see Leonard in this film, I tear up every time. Just such a good performance. I really don't care if half the fan-base hates the reboot films, this film is incredible, and Leonard made it even better. It's a perfect farewell from him to us in his iconic role if you ask me. And Beyond was a perfect farewell to him. We miss you Leonard...
That tribute with the original crew (shatner, nimoy, and the gang), was the part i teared up. Cause nimoy has passed, and they even gave Quinto's spock the news and had him react. Beautiful tribute
I thought it was pretty cool they didn't just pretend TOS and it's movies never existed, but instead intertwined the two universes. Now that's a classy reboot.

Nimoy is playing it as though Spock has finally fully accepted his human side and freely allows his emotions to show without guilt or shame. And what's great is he's done this change very subtly slowly throughout the years. It's very Zen.

Nimoy brought an incredible character to life, an excellent character arc, and that one thing that is so important to a main character: Their discovery of their self makes us look at our own lives and motivations.

Same here. I never watched the TV series to begin with when I first watched this scene, which was brilliant. I watched movies II - IV first, then the 2009 reboot and Into Darkness in 2014 in the span of 4 days. In 2015, after watching Star Trek Beyond in the cinema, I completed the classic movies, watching I, V and VI. After I finished uni in November, I watched Star Trek movies VII - X. This year, I plan on watching Star Trek: The Original Series on Netflix, starting my fan experience as a Trekkie. :)

Personally I am not a fan of the reboots, but this scene is awesome. I love seeing the comparison, how open Spock Prime is with emotion here, let it show on his face and in his voice, smiling with ease, which totally seemed to mystify his young counterpart. It's great to see how far Prime has come in embracing his human side.
He embraced after his father mind melded with Picard and Spock mind melded with Picard and felt through him what his father's true feelings for him were and that's when he truly felt at peace especially with his long lasting friendship with Kirk and the rest of his former starfleet comrades
I absolutely love this scene. It is one of the most absolutely heart-wrenching scenes in Star trek history. The last time Leonard Nimoy portrayed Spock.
Spock always moves around the meaning of a lie. Whenever it came about he said a lie was: he exaggerated, an omission, an error. Then Valeris asked of lying and she says, "a choice". Love it.
That moment at 0:53 is just so perfect, plays with the character without damaging it, Spock wouldn't lie but found the grey area and it's just such a brilliant piece of writing that kind of 'who me? never' kind of thing.
Death and being stuffed in a torpedo casing to bagpipes and then shot out of said casing into an atmosphere that all rights should have basically cremated him. Such things make you rethink your whole outlook.
I watched TOS as a boy. I think Spock is still one of the most beloved fictional characters of all time. I actually cried when he died in the Wrath of Khan. But the loss of Leonard Nimoy was a real tragedy. He was a truly great actor. The world is a sadder place without him.
How beautiful, and I am grateful that Mr. Nimoy had the time with us to bring the role of Spock completely full circle--both in passing the role to the next generation, and in showing what is IMO the final reconciliation of Spock's human and Vulcan halves into one harmonious whole. The man he portrays here is one utterly at peace with himself, and that is such a gift to watch.
If not for his appearance on "Into Darkness", this would've been the PERFECT cap-off to Nimoy's tenure as Spock. Saying goodbye, and wishing the new generation well. RIP good sir.
True, but think about the two Spock's conversation in Into Darkness: "Did you defeat him?" "At a great cost" If that isn't a fitting farewell I don't know what is.
Emmett Krantz I know. This scene from the '09 flick. His appearance in "Into Darkness" totally cheapened his appearance here. Like, this was his way of just letting the new crew do their thing. And the movie itself wanted to forge its own identity away from the original 60's continuity...... all of a sudden you have Spock asking Spock Prime what they did. Such a cheat. That basically suggests that if this new crew has ANY problems, they can just ask Spock Prime what they did in the situation. If there's any good that comes from Nimoy's passing (and this is in NO WAY a disrespet to him), it's that the writers can no longer rely on using his character for major plot points. Maybe it'll force them to come up with something fresh for these characters to deal with.
Rob C Well by Spock Prime's own admission he fully intended to stay out of the affairs and let them forge their own fate. But Khan was such a harbinger of damage that he felt compelled to give them the advice given he was considered their greatest adversary. particularlly with the rapid advancement as a consequence of Nero and Spock coming back in time, had Khan kept a hold on the Vengeance he would have reaved uncalculable damage across space. That said this is indeed a fantastic 'farewell' a few years ahead of schedule.
This scene is very symbolic: Leonard Nimoy was finally leaving the legendary role that he had played for almost fifty years, and passes the torch onto Zachary Quinto. Now he is gone. RIP Leonard Nimoy, you have earned it. As for you, Quinto, live up to the role of Spock, and Live Long and Prosper
I am 45 and grew up with the movies from Star Wars & Star Trek. I also watched every rerun that I could catch on TV about Star Trek. In my youth, there were no cable companies and satellite dishes available to those like us who just did not have the money. When we moved back into Tupelo, MS ( I was 12 ) my father had a great job that allowed us to get cable TV!! We were the first in our neighborhood and our house became a private theater!! LOL. Doctor Who and Star Trek, with all of the spin offs included of course, will always be my favorites. It is the year 2015 and many of my peers are pioneers of many current technologies being used today. The internet has allowed people like me to ( and you my fellow Trekkies ) to fully enjoy Mr. Nimoy's career as Mr. Spock and all of the things he was involved in. For those out there who look at us and shake their heads, they have no idea what is was like growing up with the cast of the original crew of the Enterprise. Thank you Mr. Nimoy for the many, many worlds that your character opened up to us.
I can't even begin to describe how awesome this scene is. It's awesome how this scene essentially combines the new generation with the classic generation. It's awesome how Spock sets his time travel brother down the path of coming to terms with his humanity. It's awesome to see how Spock Prime has developed over the years. And it's awesome seeing the two give each other the peace sign! Granted it's a Vulcan symbol, but it's iconic all the same.
J.J. Abrams must have had the easiest time of his career "directing" Leonard Nimoy. By that I mean, you don't direct a guy who's been playing the same character for about 50 years - you just give him his lines, point the camera, and say "action" and let the guy who knows the character best do the rest.
You should look at the bloopers for st4 and st5. In the fourth movie, McCoy says, "Well, nobody's perfect." Spock ponders a couple of seconds, gets an irritated look on his face and responds, "Oh, yeah?" In the fifth movie, Kirk says, "Let's see what she's got." Sulu responds, "Aye sir." As Kirk shifts in his seat, Spock says, "Get your hand off my leg." Hilarious on both counts!
If they have a good acting team the director lets them do what they do and they just piece it all together. Frequently it’s better if the director stays out of the way, in a matter of speaking
I was 14 years old when the original Star Trek series first aired. It was something amazing and new and terrific fun. I can't watch the above very nicely accomplished clip without finding tears in my eyes. Farewell to the old guard, welcome to the new, and as Spock says, good luck!
RIP Leonard Nimoy. I cry not only for his death, but also for my uncle who died of lung cancer and was such a great fan of the original show. Hi older sister (my mom) got me into TNG and I also saw the old show.
It is one of my greatest joys, to have been able to sit down at a table in a bar with Leonard Nimoy, have a drink with him and his wife, and talk about life. He was a wonderful person.
I'll never forget seeing this in theaters with my family. My dad grew up as a hard-core trekkie and I was new to it. So in the scene where Leonard Nimoy first shows up, my dad chuckles while sitting next to me, then leans over and says "That's the REAL Spock" before continuing to watch the film. 😂😂
well it took Ambassador Spock 150+ years, death, a forced mind meld with McCoy regeneration on Genesis, refusuion of his consciousness, retraining of his mind regaining lost memories, and fighting with his father all his life until said father died to do it. You'd learn to get comfortable with yourself too after all that.
***** Dying and resurrection and all the fun during and after said dying and resurrection of Older Spock is more than enough for most people to rethink a lot of things about life.
I don't know if you've ever watched the original series or the original Star Trek movies, but Spock was true to himself. The Spock from the future was EXACTLY the way young Spock was. Extremely logical to a fault and disciplined. All those many, many, many years with Kirk and crew mates have made him who he is today or as you see in the new movie....how he is in the future. That was a great ass scene.
As someone who saw TOS in its original run, I have to say this: JJ nailed it. While I didn’t agree with all his choices, I have to say that it’s clear he understood the closeness and feelings that people have for these characters. I support him and the films he made, and hopefully there are more to come.
Leonard Nimoy really takes it home... the actors from the original star trek have so far lived amazingly long lives... a lot longer than any other show of the era... Some from that era lived to be older even though they're not with us anymore of course back then a lot of actors were veterans of WWII, including the actors who played the original McCoy and Scotty in Star Trek TOS
Of all the actors I've watched over 50 years, Leonard Nimoy, and the character he brought so much life to, and in his own way influencing some of mine, especially my imagination as a child, he comes first above all others. Each of the original cast played a part in that as well because each had something different in the characters they portrayed that appealed to my young mind back in those days. But Mr. Nimoy / Spock came first... First star to the right, and straight on 'till morning. RIP...

I was 8 when this movie came out and my dad took me and my little brother to see it in the cinema. While I have since watched and fallen in love with all the older Trek media this movie still holds a special place in my heart as the first Star Trek thing I ever watched (or at least remember watching).
Rest in peace, Mr. Leonard Nimoy. You have been, and always shall be, our friend. You have touched our hearts and souls over the years, and you shall not be forgotten. You have, as Ambassador Spock would say, lived long and prospered. And in our memories, you shall always live and prosper. That is a promise.

I'm guessing Spock was still trying to find his place in Starfleet, in his friendship with Kirk, and his own future when "Into Darkness" happened. He still didn't have complete faith in all three and therefore could not defy his own Vulcan sense of logic.
Yes, they clumsily tried to show that young Spock was still clinging to his Vulcan origins in terms of strict honesty, complete candor and complete obedience to the "rules". In the original series, Nimoy's Spock used to display these qualities by citing the astronomical odds they were facing, or citing how what they're doing is a complete violation of Starfleet regulations...esp the Prime Directive. Here they had Spock literally "betray" Kirk, when in fact, Kirk was indulging Spock's plan (itself a violation of the prime directive) to save the indigenous people of that planet by averting the volcano eruption. THIS Spock was doing it because Vulcan was destroyed and this Spock did NOT want to see it happen to other species. Nonetheless, this Spock did indeed throw Kirk under the bus...when he outted Kirk's actions (in saving Spock's life no less) to Pike!
This is one of those beautiful film and tv moments when you can see the actor speaking through the character. He talks about a friendship that defines _him,_ he talks about _his_ customary farewell. I recall the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who where Tom Baker and Matt Smith are talking, and Tom goes “If I were you, ohhhhh… if I were you. Perhaps I was you. Or, perhaps, you were me?”
A trailblazer, an icon, a singular master of his craft...he delighted and entertained us, all while showing us the wonderful intertwining of Vulcan logic with Human empathy and ingenuity. He guided us, inspired us, and demonstrated the kind of hopeful, limitless future we may yet have in space. He was a friend, a mentor, a teacher, and a student of the ways of the universe. And he will always have a special place in the hearts of those of us who grew up watching his journeys among the stars. RIP Leonard Nimoy...you will be dearly missed. May your legacy live long and prosper.
I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Nemoy in 1989 by accident. I was visiting Universal studios and he was there for a speaking engagement? Im not sure but i know i didn't know he was going to be there and i was so happy to see him and went to listen to him speak. He was the only star trek actor I had not seen up till that point. My mother took us to a lot of Star Trek conventions when I was a child.
I too had a chance encounter with him... I delivered a bunch of furniture to his house in Incline Village, and he was so happy to recieve it, he came down to sign the bill!😃👍
My Mother was at a charity event in LA years ago and he was there. She asked him if she called me if he'd leave a message, to which he agreed. I was supposed to be at work but was sick that day so I picked up. I was giddy like a little kid when I realized who it was and I think he got a chuckle out of the reaction. He was very nice. We talked for just a minute and at the end he said "Live long and prosper, Jackson". I just about dropped to the floor. It would have been nice to have a message from him to go back and listen to, but the memory and experience to get to talk to him even for a minute was far more valuable. I'll never forget it.
Lord I miss that man. He was such a important piece of my childhood. Lenard Nimoy I hope you are as happy in you new life as you made mine. Rest in joy, love and peace.❤

Only Spock could convince Spock to do what feels right. His mother took forever to finally convince old Spock to embrace emotions healthily when needed. She saw the benefit of emotion tempered by logic and logic informed by emotion.
Spock just taught himself this lesson without all the hardship he would need to face to learn it otherwise.
And it def came in handy when facing Khan. Spock finally unloaded emotion

Spock held that realization in _The Undiscovered Country_ when he inferred to Lieutenant Valeris that logic is an _instrument_ to obtain wisdom-- it is not the _product_ of wisdom.
I would go further and conject that _emotion_ is yet another instrument in that pursuit. Well-timed utilization of both logic and passion (with a little guidance from your friends) serve to find that wisdom.
To quote Dr McCoy from The Wrath of Khan: "He's really not dead, as long as we remember him." Rest in peace, Mr Nimoy. And thank you for all the great adventures. Live long and prosper.

NBC wanted The Great Bird to get rid of that bossy No.1 woman exec and that satanic looking, slightly green Spock. Rewrite the script too. Gene got rid of literally everything except the ship and Spock. Nobody that cares will ever forget Leonard Nimoy.... Ps. No1 came back as Nurse Chapel, Majel was Gene's wife at the time and all... I loved everything about Leonard Nimoy’s presence in the movie. It was truly beautiful to see how he had arrived at a place of peace and self-acceptance. His calmness and wisdom tinged with humor. You know everyone who cared about him would be proud of how far he’s come.
Can't speak for other Trekkies, but I absolutely loved this scene. You see how the humanity and sensitivity of Kirk and McCoy have influenced Spock Prime's way of thinking: He imparts sound and gentle wisdom into his younger self, much like a loving human father would into his son. Very cool.

I do now. I'm ashamed to admit that I never truly appreciated Leonard Nimoy until he was gone. Oh, I certainly THOUGHT I did. I admired and respected him. But I guess you just never truly know how valued people are until they... aren't anymore.
This film was my introduction to the Star Trek universe. I saw it when I was 9, and it blew me away. I then checked out the original series and its 6 feature films. The stories and characters of Star Trek resonate with me. Star Trek not only changed how I see storytelling, but it changed my life. Because of this, the Kelvin movies have always been special to me. Star Trek (2009) is the reason I became a fan.

When Spock travelled back in time Sarik would have been deceased, as would have his Mother. Knowing I could see my Father again would bring me some personal stability after losing my planet. However the question of ‘How are our Mother and Father?’ would be devastating to both Spock’s no matter which one asked. For different reasons of course.
Man when I see Leonard in this film, I tear up every time. Just such a good performance. I really don't care if half the fan-base hates the reboot films, this film is incredible, and Leonard made it even better. It's a perfect farewell from him to us in his iconic role if you ask me.
And Beyond was a perfect farewell to him.

Nimoy is playing it as though Spock has finally fully accepted his human side and freely allows his emotions to show without guilt or shame. And what's great is he's done this change very subtly slowly throughout the years. It's very Zen.

Same here. I never watched the TV series to begin with when I first watched this scene, which was brilliant. I watched movies II - IV first, then the 2009 reboot and Into Darkness in 2014 in the span of 4 days. In 2015, after watching Star Trek Beyond in the cinema, I completed the classic movies, watching I, V and VI. After I finished uni in November, I watched Star Trek movies VII - X. This year, I plan on watching Star Trek: The Original Series on Netflix, starting my fan experience as a Trekkie. :)

I loved how the "Oh, I implied" ties back to the "I exaggerated" line in Wrath of Khan.
Personally I am not a fan of the reboots, but this scene is awesome. I love seeing the comparison, how open Spock Prime is with emotion here, let it show on his face and in his voice, smiling with ease, which totally seemed to mystify his young counterpart. It's great to see how far Prime has come in embracing his human side.

He embraced after his father mind melded with Picard and Spock mind melded with Picard and felt through him what his father's true feelings for him were and that's when he truly felt at peace especially with his long lasting friendship with Kirk and the rest of his former starfleet comrades

Spock always moves around the meaning of a lie. Whenever it came about he said a lie was: he exaggerated, an omission, an error. Then Valeris asked of lying and she says, "a choice". Love it.

That moment at 0:53 is just so perfect, plays with the character without damaging it, Spock wouldn't lie but found the grey area and it's just such a brilliant piece of writing that kind of 'who me? never' kind of thing.
When the old Spock embraces his human side while the young Spock doesn't understand his.
Death and being stuffed in a torpedo casing to bagpipes and then shot out of said casing into an atmosphere that all rights should have basically cremated him. Such things make you rethink your whole outlook.
I watched TOS as a boy. I think Spock is still one of the most beloved fictional characters of all time. I actually cried when he died in the Wrath of Khan.
But the loss of Leonard Nimoy was a real tragedy. He was a truly great actor. The world is a sadder place without him.
How beautiful, and I am grateful that Mr. Nimoy had the time with us to bring the role of Spock completely full circle--both in passing the role to the next generation, and in showing what is IMO the final reconciliation of Spock's human and Vulcan halves into one harmonious whole. The man he portrays here is one utterly at peace with himself, and that is such a gift to watch.
If not for his appearance on "Into Darkness", this would've been the PERFECT cap-off to Nimoy's tenure as Spock. Saying goodbye, and wishing the new generation well.

Emmett Krantz I know. This scene from the '09 flick. His appearance in "Into Darkness" totally cheapened his appearance here. Like, this was his way of just letting the new crew do their thing. And the movie itself wanted to forge its own identity away from the original 60's continuity...... all of a sudden you have Spock asking Spock Prime what they did. Such a cheat. That basically suggests that if this new crew has ANY problems, they can just ask Spock Prime what they did in the situation. If there's any good that comes from Nimoy's passing (and this is in NO WAY a disrespet to him), it's that the writers can no longer rely on using his character for major plot points. Maybe it'll force them to come up with something fresh for these characters to deal with.
Rob C Well by Spock Prime's own admission he fully intended to stay out of the affairs and let them forge their own fate. But Khan was such a harbinger of damage that he felt compelled to give them the advice given he was considered their greatest adversary.
particularlly with the rapid advancement as a consequence of Nero and Spock coming back in time, had Khan kept a hold on the Vengeance he would have reaved uncalculable damage across space.
That said this is indeed a fantastic 'farewell' a few years ahead of schedule.
This scene is very symbolic: Leonard Nimoy was finally leaving the legendary role that he had played for almost fifty years, and passes the torch onto Zachary Quinto. Now he is gone. RIP Leonard Nimoy, you have earned it. As for you, Quinto, live up to the role of Spock, and Live Long and Prosper
I am 45 and grew up with the movies from Star Wars & Star Trek. I also watched every rerun that I could catch on TV about Star Trek. In my youth, there were no cable companies and satellite dishes available to those like us who just did not have the money. When we moved back into Tupelo, MS ( I was 12 ) my father had a great job that allowed us to get cable TV!! We were the first in our neighborhood and our house became a private theater!! LOL. Doctor Who and Star Trek, with all of the spin offs included of course, will always be my favorites. It is the year 2015 and many of my peers are pioneers of many current technologies being used today. The internet has allowed people like me to ( and you my fellow Trekkies ) to fully enjoy Mr. Nimoy's career as Mr. Spock and all of the things he was involved in. For those out there who look at us and shake their heads, they have no idea what is was like growing up with the cast of the original crew of the Enterprise. Thank you Mr. Nimoy for the many, many worlds that your character opened up to us.

I can't even begin to describe how awesome this scene is. It's awesome how this scene essentially combines the new generation with the classic generation. It's awesome how Spock sets his time travel brother down the path of coming to terms with his humanity. It's awesome to see how Spock Prime has developed over the years. And it's awesome seeing the two give each other the peace sign! Granted it's a Vulcan symbol, but it's iconic all the same.

J.J. Abrams must have had the easiest time of his career "directing" Leonard Nimoy. By that I mean, you don't direct a guy who's been playing the same character for about 50 years - you just give him his lines, point the camera, and say "action" and let the guy who knows the character best do the rest.
Not to mention Nimoy was himself directing tv & film when Abrams was still in high school.
You should look at the bloopers for st4 and st5. In the fourth movie, McCoy says, "Well, nobody's perfect." Spock ponders a couple of seconds, gets an irritated look on his face and responds, "Oh, yeah?"
In the fifth movie, Kirk says, "Let's see what she's got." Sulu responds, "Aye sir." As Kirk shifts in his seat, Spock says, "Get your hand off my leg." Hilarious on both counts!

well it took Ambassador Spock 150+ years, death, a forced mind meld with McCoy regeneration on Genesis, refusuion of his consciousness, retraining of his mind regaining lost memories, and fighting with his father all his life until said father died to do it. You'd learn to get comfortable with yourself too after all that.
***** Dying and resurrection and all the fun during and after said dying and resurrection of Older Spock is more than enough for most people to rethink a lot of things about life.
I don't know if you've ever watched the original series or the original Star Trek movies, but Spock was true to himself. The Spock from the future was EXACTLY the way young Spock was. Extremely logical to a fault and disciplined. All those many, many, many years with Kirk and crew mates have made him who he is today or as you see in the new movie....how he is in the future. That was a great ass scene.

Spock is one of the greatest characters ever, regardless of the media. Just amazing.
As someone who saw TOS in its original run, I have to say this: JJ nailed it. While I didn’t agree with all his choices, I have to say that it’s clear he understood the closeness and feelings that people have for these characters. Of all the actors I've watched over 50 years, Leonard Nimoy, and the character he brought so much life to, and in his own way influencing some of mine, especially my imagination as a child, he comes first above all others. Each of the original cast played a part in that as well because each had something different in the characters they portrayed that appealed to my young mind back in those days. But Mr. Nimoy / Spock came first... First star to the right, and straight on 'till morning. RIP...

I was 8 when this movie came out and my dad took me and my little brother to see it in the cinema. While I have since watched and fallen in love with all the older Trek media this movie still holds a special place in my heart as the first Star Trek thing I ever watched (or at least remember watching).

Yeah Spock, way to throw Kirk under the bus at the beginning of Into Darkness!
I'm guessing Spock was still trying to find his place in Starfleet, in his friendship with Kirk, and his own future when "Into Darkness" happened. He still didn't have complete faith in all three and therefore could not defy his own Vulcan sense of logic.
Yes, they clumsily tried to show that young Spock was still clinging to his Vulcan origins in terms of strict honesty, complete candor and complete obedience to the "rules". In the original series, Nimoy's Spock used to display these qualities by citing the astronomical odds they were facing, or citing how what they're doing is a complete violation of Starfleet regulations...esp the Prime Directive. Here they had Spock literally "betray" Kirk, when in fact, Kirk was indulging Spock's plan (itself a violation of the prime directive) to save the indigenous people of that planet by averting the volcano eruption. THIS Spock was doing it because Vulcan was destroyed and this Spock did NOT want to see it happen to other species. Nonetheless, this Spock did indeed throw Kirk under the bus...when he outted Kirk's actions (in saving Spock's life no less) to Pike!
This is one of those beautiful film and tv moments when you can see the actor speaking through the character. He talks about a friendship that defines _him,_ he talks about _his_ customary farewell. I recall the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who where Tom Baker and Matt Smith are talking, and Tom goes “If I were you, ohhhhh… if I were you. Perhaps I was you. Or, perhaps, you were me?”

A trailblazer, an icon, a singular master of his craft...he delighted and entertained us, all while showing us the wonderful intertwining of Vulcan logic with Human empathy and ingenuity. He guided us, inspired us, and demonstrated the kind of hopeful, limitless future we may yet have in space. He was a friend, a mentor, a teacher, and a student of the ways of the universe. And he will always have a special place in the hearts of those of us who grew up watching his journeys among the stars.
RIP Leonard Nimoy...you will be dearly missed. May your legacy live long and prosper.

I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Nemoy in 1989 by accident. I was visiting Universal studios and he was there for a speaking engagement? Im not sure but i know i didn't know he was going to be there and i was so happy to see him and went to listen to him speak. He was the only star trek actor I had not seen up till that point. My mother took us to a lot of Star Trek conventions when I was a child.
I too had a chance encounter with him... I delivered a bunch of furniture to his house in Incline Village, and he was so happy to recieve it, he came down to sign the bill!😃👍
My Mother was at a charity event in LA years ago and he was there. She asked him if she called me if he'd leave a message, to which he agreed. I was supposed to be at work but was sick that day so I picked up. I was giddy like a little kid when I realized who it was and I think he got a chuckle out of the reaction. He was very nice. We talked for just a minute and at the end he said "Live long and prosper, Jackson". I just about dropped to the floor. It would have been nice to have a message from him to go back and listen to, but the memory and experience to get to talk to him even for a minute was far more valuable. I'll never forget it.
Lord I miss that man. He was such a important piece of my childhood. Lenard Nimoy I hope you are as happy in you new life as you made mine. Rest in joy, love and peace.❤

You will never be dead as long as we remember You in the series and movies which is my proud collection on dvd and blu ray. Hope your soul is having FUN with Scotty and bones abroad the enterprise.
