    Vampire, thorns and elemental resistance, combo with see you in hell and field medic.
    This has been my build for all of my characters, as it lets me maintain my health for ridiculously long.
    One could definitely swap out field medic for iron will when going solo, or if the team already has a medic scout.

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +12

      Rasmus Lundqvist can you comment more on how you typically get the most use out of see you in hell? Is it the passive synergy with vampire, possibly getting intentionally downed or maybe using the active to give space to people trying to revive you?

    • @swaghettimemeballs4420
      @swaghettimemeballs4420 4 года назад +34

      @@milligin Well, both!
      Remember how berserker used to work? The less health you had the more damage you could do with it, and as such you could get health with vampire much faster, they synergized so you could melee tank basically forever.
      See you in hell replaces that, only you don't need to be at low hp to get the buff, you just need to get hit!
      So a good strategy is to kite and let them hit your shield, and then you strike with bonus damage to replenish your health.
      Obviously the best way to get vampire health is with the pickaxe heavy attack, so see you in hell is an "in betweenie" thing.
      The skill synergizes with itself, you aggro the horde by hell-vampiring, and while you do that the rest of the team can help you kill the rest of the horde.
      And when you eventually DO go down because you pulled the horde too hard, now you can kill the rest of them with the same skill!
      And while you've been doing all of that the rest of the team has also fought the horde, preferably from a distance.
      So not only are you aggroing horde for the team, you're also helping them focus on other things than the horde, like oppressors and praetorians.
      I don't use berserker because it's been replaced by see you in hell, and i don't like cooldowns.
      For me it's all about being able to maintain a weaker offense forever, instead of having a spike like being berserker.
      My spike instead is my weapons and grenades.
      Thorns is there for the swarmers, since you don't get hp from them might as well take them down slowly even if it means missing health, but that's ok because of maintenance.
      There you go, i really can't deconstruct it better than this!
      Edit: (Side note)
      Because this works so well, you don't need to resupply as often!
      So you can let your teammates take resupply pods and still be a badass pickaxe warrior vampire.

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +22

      Rasmus Lundqvist it really is a shame how long the berzerker cooldown is. Thanks for giving such a thorough explanation. It’s neat to think about leaning so heavily into melee gameplay that it gives extra supplies to your teammates.

    • @swaghettimemeballs4420
      @swaghettimemeballs4420 4 года назад +9

      @@milligin It's also a really good way to play with noobs.
      Especially if you're a scout, then you don't have to use any of the nitra you collect, and if they down you can fastres them.
      Grappling hook also helps out with getting those well timed group heavy attacks, since you can sit in the middle of horde and *BOOM* hp gain and get out of there, or res and THEN get out of there.
      Berserker medic.
      I've had games where i res 20 times and don't die a single time because of this.
      I'm looking at you, infinite horde point extraction!
      Also worth to note that you should NEVER think of field medic as an active skill, it's a passive.
      Passive buffs are always better, basic rpg logic.

    • @sandropazdg8106
      @sandropazdg8106 4 года назад +2

      @@milligin you could get best of both worlds by going Berserk instead of field Medic, or Iron Will for those clutch moments. Also now that I know Born Ready triggers if you go melee for 5 seconds straight taking this build on an engi with lazer or scout with shotgun becomes an interesting option.

  • @simonsichelarm8631

    The Thorns perk actually extends in usefullness on what one might think.
    First of all, swarmers are not the only enemies this perk causes to die instantly after attacking you. Those super annoying jelly fish will also die if you stand close enough to them, which is likely as their attacks stunn. This makes facing them a lot less threatening as even in big numbers, they only deal low damage, relying on other bugs to close in and deal damage as they keep you in place. This is greately reducing their possible cc on you preventing a lot of horrible scenarios to even occure.
    Another thing is the great combo potential with see you in hell, making it possible to oneshot pretty much any normal bug with a normal axe swing after they got a bite at your shield.
    I also noticed that enemies who received damage from this perk did a little flinching animation as if they have just been hit. Not sure wether this noticably delays their following attacks but at times it feels like it does.
    And last but not least one should look at this perk as an additional damage source as over longer missions the amount of damage this perk will have caused at the end of it will be substantially.
    Just some thoughts of mine :D
    Keep yourself safe out there miners!

    the perk to revert 24 damage to enemies who attack you, is so great in regards to those small one hit monsters, i wouldnt be too surprised if they nerf it on those specific enemies in the future.

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +33

      They added a tier of damage specifically to kill small enemies on the highest possible hazard as a hotfix after the perk rework. that is why thorns has 4 tiers and is the most expensive (in perk points) of all the passive perks. It is really strong, i would be surprised in a way if they back-pedaled a hotfix designed to do this. but at the same time i wouldn't because it really feels like they want many of the perks to do nothing.

    Vampire on Driller can be very useful if you can make a good enough build. Things like also having Beserk, Iron will, or See you in hell which can all effect how you use it, but can generally turn the Driller into the melee build people want. Add in the drills and making them damage base and the axes, and you can withstand a lot of attacks.

    I used to use "Elemental Insulation/Veteran Depositor/Deep Pockets" as a general purpose set-up for all my dwarves because I like to have some damage reduction and carry more minerals. Recently though, I found that "Thorns" can be better than "Elemental Insulation" because environmental hazards can be avoided and not be too much of a problem.

    • @milligin
      @milligin  3 года назад

      Sean Lightowler something I didn’t mention in the video is how well elemental insulation works with class specific damage resistance for driller and engineer (their armor has a mod that reduces a certain damage type). I also like having the extra pocket space from deep pockets but recently I’ve dropped the perk and picked up the +5 inventory space from the first tier of armor mods. It hurts shield regen but 5 extra capacity is just enough for what I want.

    Question. If one destroys minerals by removing their surounding supporting terrain, causing them to break to "obey gravity", does one loose out on units mined compared to manually mining them with the pickaxe?

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +5

      Crazy Tactician the short answer is it depends but typically no. The method to remove the terrain also doesn’t factor in to this. I have tested this multiple times with instanced mineral nodes in deep dives and always come out with the same amount of minerals from pickaxe/satchel charge/mining terrain away/EPC thin containment mining/bosco. There are exceptions when using beer buffs, those seem to require you to actually mine the node I believe. There can also be issues when talking about small numbers and rounding. You can mine a mineral for less than 1 resources but if it is exploded off the wall, it may not generate a mineral chunk.

    Does sweet tooth keep the increased healing when you just break it, giving teammates more health?

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +2

      I dont believe so but I could be wrong. I believe the way its coded is that increases the value of healing received from specifically red sugar sources. And its a value that is character specific.

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +3

      it also doesn't change how much is consumed from the node, its like it takes the same chunk that you would normally hit, gets that value and then adds a 1.3 multiplier to it

    • @milligin
      @milligin  3 года назад +2

      I would say you don’t need friendly always. Especially on haz 3 and where friendly fire is reduced compared to haz 4 or 5. But it all depends on how much you are getting hurt by your team or you are dealing team damage. If you can find away around this, you may be able to free up a perk slot. Thorns is always good.

      @@withers102 that’s totally fair because it seems like it just helps with small enemies. The subtle thing is it is doing pretty good damage to regular grunts and slashers that get to hit you. I do have one more question while I have your attention, will you ever do a video on utility weapon perks? The drill, platform gun, flares, etc. And what perks are worth grabbing or not? I kind of just wing it personally but having someone who knows better than me would be super helpful.

    • @milligin

      @@withers102 I have thought about doing something that focuses on the utility and armor choices instead of gun builds as everyone has their own preference for weapons. I think there are some good things to talk about for the choices for non weapon builds. I need to get back to making guides and that would be one of the top choices so I’m glad to hear it’s something that is interesting.

    Hey man, loved your vid
    I coulnd't help but notice that you make two kinds of videos: gameplays and guides. Guides get like 10k views while gameplay barely reach 500 and your sub count is outragiously low for the quality level you offer
    I suggest you dropping the gameplay vids as people will come to check out your channel and see it drowned by these and not subscribe as they just wanted the quality guides
    Just a suggestion that could possibly help you grow the channel with potentially less work :)

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +1

      Giona Cantarutti I appreciate the feedback and the compliment means a lot. Being forthright here, since you’ve brought up the numbers, I am new to content creation and my channel is relatively young. A fair amount of this is learning what works and what doesn’t as I’ve had no previous experience in the field. I put a lot of heart and time into the guides but I also enjoy making the gameplay content. Less than a month ago I had fewer than 100 subs and I can only hope it continues growing. I like to be able to show that i have consistency as a creator by having regular uploads. The gameplay videos also serve as a sort of reference for anyone who sees my guides, knowing that I play the game at all difficulties with varying groups of play. Again, I really appreciate the insight, I’m sure I will have to make many adjustments as this goes along and this suggestion may be one of them! I’m just glad so many people are enjoying my videos.

    • @milligin
      @milligin  4 года назад +1

      Sneaky the guides should be appearing at the top of my homepage for both subscribers and non subscribers, same for the playlist page. If this isn’t the case I may have done something wrong with the channel layout. I can’t change how they appear on the videos tab since that is more of a user controlled page with filters and just lists everything in order of date by default. I understand there are a lot of people that don’t wanna watch other people play the game. I’ll do my best to clean up the page as much as I can but if people are turned away because I have gameplay of the game I make guides for on my channel then I’ll just have to accept the loss. I appreciate the feedback as I do want to refine the content that I am providing, if you have any other suggestions of things that may help, let me know.

    definitely get the 2 extra slots first, dont waste the perk points on simply what is available.
    friendly fire, bigger pockets and it's a bug are kinda useless.
    throns, resupplier and sweet tooth are best imo.
    reason: it makes no sense to slightly decrease your total mission time if you dont get out alive in the first place. this is why combat/health essential perks are more useful than ones who simply decrease the amount of time walking or depositing takes, since you can do these after all anyways.
