I now have a better, longer, and more comprehensive video than this on Outlast 1, 2, and the Murkoff Account! Check it out here ruclips.net/video/-rfJX6xVwsk/видео.html
Thank you!!
Nice video! Just beat outlast 2, now i have beat all the outlasts including the whisleblower dlc was looking for a video exactly like this!
Don't you just love it when you have to read a separate comic for games story to make sense. Now that's good writing.
Is that sarcasm?
@@Empire_JeSzO I hope it is
I suggest you watch Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker then! Not only do you need to read a lot of comics, you also need to read the novelisation and visual dictionary to understand anything! It's brilliant writing and storytelling.
@@heivain4330 and people complain about the prequel trilogy needing material that’s outside of the movies.
@@MusicFan752 Well I also think that they need the additional material,it's just for different reasons. Sequels need books to even make sense which is really stupid. But with the prequels I do think they need The Clone Wars so that you can truly appreciate them since they are kinda bad and mostly boring on their own.
So Murkoff is basically like Umbrella Corps
from Resident Evil to Outlast huh?
Pretty much
yeah but murkoff wants money while umbrella are idealists looking to create a new world
Well yes, but yes-
@@3kelsey472 I think there's some darker reasons behind Murkoff ,i mean they have so much technology and power
@@Andre-ee6gc Satanic conspiracy to open a portal to the divine and create a new world order. Only half-joking, but there's enough clues throughout the games to hint at Murkoff having spiritual reasons behind their obsessive pursuit of evil.
It’s so sad that we see everything Blake went through in the game just to find out he’s probably inside an insane asylum secretly somewhere or even dead
i hope we could possibly get a sequel to outlast 2 one day explaining what happened to blake or just the aftermath of everything but idk
as storywise, outlast 1 and whistleblower had more sense and you could understand them clearly well if you played the game and reading the notes. but outlast 2 had so so so many twists and parallel events that my mind couldnt handle, even after watching your video what you came of as conclusion i think no one can have this story even if he played the whole game and reading all notes. it's so complex.
Swear my dude, at the end of the day I couldn’t tell if this game had to do with crazy religious people or with the supernatural, or with hallucinations like I was so confused. I think from the video ive gotten that this game is a big mindfuck
It was pretty damn wack if you ask me, its not only its complexity and confusive narrative, but also its lore to the series is practically minimal.
The whole game is essentially a "so murkoff was doing another experiment here with the engine" stretched into a whole game, AND you only understand that with comics that basically make the whole connection.
Unless in a future game the events in outlast 2 have like a MASSIVE impact I honestly feel like they didnt really care about making much of a plot, they just wanted to do quick profit of shock value imo.
@@KawaiianArgument no need too be mad lol
@@KawaiianArgument you talking about completionist, can you tell me what you got at the end of the game as conclusion? what link have you built between the school and the village? did you notice that blake shadow was empty and that there was no baby? stop acting like you're the guy who made this video, you know nothing until you watched this video just like every other casual player :)! even markiplier and pewdiepie the masters of gameplays couldnt get the story. shut it please and thank you
Dawg if you’re diligent and collect all the notes everything is pretty much spelled out for you. The story in hindsight isn’t all that complex once you manage to piece it all together.
Idk if it's only me, but I found this story kinda disturbing and hurting, especially the one where Jessica gets killed.
Well that’s outlast for ya
It messed me up tbh..thought it was just me being paranoid
That _really_ sucks, if it wasn't absolutely confirmed that Jessica died with a broken neck I'd say bring her into the series to develop her more. Since if you break Outlast 2's story in half (The School and The Cult) both could exist in a vacuum. And I want a good resolution to Jessica's story, I.E. The Priest getting fucked up.
I’d rather go through the absolute worst of what happened in mk ultra than play outlast 2 again it was that terrifying and mind fucked me I’m pretty sure my mind looks like scrambled eggs or silly putty it scared me so bad
@@r011ing_thunder6 Yeah that Mk ultra shit got me too 💀
Sad that this is the fate that’s been dealt to Blake and Lin. Both didn’t do anything wrong and were only victims to the very end. What started out as a interesting reporting story for them ended with Lin dying from fake child birth after most likely being raped by the heretics in filth and a rundown town full of corpses and insane people with Blake having gone through many emotional, psychological, mental, and especially physical trials just for things to the end the way they did and him finally succumbing to his insanity and becoming lost and trapped in the past of his mind with “Jessica” while he becomes catatonic and is taken to be experimented on and used by Murkoff.
Blake seems to be a perfect Walrider candidate after going through all this
@@DJMiixOnline oh yeah, Walrider can just take over the body cause there isn’t really much of a mind left
Shit that's hella dark
It’s HORROR🤘
Wasnt Blake also raped by val?
A small thing most people forget: When Knoth was in Albuquerque hearing a message through the static, he went outside into the night and saw a vision of an angelic creature with many eyes crowned in fire surrounded by wheels within wheels. He knew this had confirmed he was the new prophet because Ezekiel had a vision too before becoming prophet. That's why Temple Gate's cross always has wheels built on to them. Great vid btw!!
ophanim
Walrider inside the morphogenic engine? I really like how the generic 'spooky ghost' and 'mind control machine' get reinterpreted as divine, it actually retroactively gives a lot more power and menace to the Walrider.
I feel like one of the best ways they could've connected both of the outlasts is through the wallrider. That thing was very scary and I think it would've been a great addition to this game
I mean, technically they did, but not in the actual game. The walrider kinda shows up in the aftermath (in the Murkoff account)
The Walrider could have explained the visions of god that Knoth kept saying he had, or even explained the fear of the antichrist.
@@songbird6414 Thats actually a good plot twist
@@songbird6414 they kinda already did that in Outlast 1, father Martin's entire religion was about the walrider and Miles
@ And the Walrider *lives in the static.*
Where Knoth heard his first hidden message...
in *1963.*
This game DEFINITELY needed an explaination; beyond confusing.
Yes thank you for agreeing.
Bro, I happened to finish Outlast yesterday after years of delaying it. Since I was left with some questions, went to youtube the next day and found your video. And it so happens that 6 hours ago, you uploaded this. Absolutely wonderful.
Awesome! Hope you enjoyed!
lol same I just finished today and I was so confused with the school and the monster that was in the school
same thing happened to me!!
Bro I just finished it yesterday. I was genuinely confused but it truly is a good game
I actually cried when i understood the whole story, Not even intentional, it just happened. Poor Jessica, Blake and Lynn
That's horror for ya
A sucky ending for me like what’s the point of the Game?
@@Jarod-te2bi Awww did you want to kill the bad guy, get the girl, then take down the evil corp? Grow the F up. Not all endings are happy.
@@Mutiny960 O.k.
@@Mutiny960 ngl I think if you’re getting this pressed over an opinion on a video game then you’re probably the one that needs to grow up
This game would be finish earlier if you have a chance to pick machete with you entire time
game would have finihsed earlier if you didnt have to reroute 50 times to get to the mines!
Not having a weapon on you makes it more fun knowing you are the vulnerable one. Thus making the game seem more scary and enjoyable as it would be to easy if you could actually fight the enemies and progress without constant fear of being seen by the enemies.
@@messy_boy0656 i know it just pretty unrealistic to can't have a weapon in that situation
@@zul6227 a cameramen should not be able to use weapon, i think that's realistic one. just telling dont mind me
@@kknkolaboratif1555 no honey the more unrealistic the game is when you thought there's a cameraman in first person game follow you entire time
This is the most complete explanation i have ever seen to this series. Good work man and i believe that your channel will be becoming famous soon
Hope so!
I love how Blake went from my least favorite outlast main character to my favorite.
I felt sorry for the guy. Being forced to relive childhood trauma through a bunch of cultist nutcases
In my opinion, outlast 2 was scarier than the first one. Being in the mine house/mines terrified me. The chases are much more fast paced and scary. Trager and Chris were scary but they were sort of human. Sort of. At least trager was. But the people in this game aren’t human. They’re monsters.
Well, they are human, they've just gone insane haha. I think Outlast 1 was scarier, but for some reason, the school in Outlast 2 REALLY freaked me out
@@GamingHarryYT Oh yeah, loudermilch was terrifying. What scared me most was the heretics and their animal like behavior. I guess living in the mines for that long will turn you into that. Anyways, good work on this video!
I fully agree that outlast 1 was way scarier, imo outlast 2 tries too hard, there is not a second where you feel safe or with hope of anything, so the fear wears out incredibly fast, it comes out as cheap shock value.
Outlast 1 had the entire opposite, making you multiple times feel hope of escaping and getting away, or feel that someone is helping you and turn it on you as its another crazy person.
That along with the plot, one being reasonably easy to follow, and the sequel just being incredibly confusing even after ending the whole game.
But also, the school section of 2 was really good, it literally fixes what I just described it was bad about the main plotline. I wish they had done a whole game in a school really.
@@bluewolf7111 I would agree with your points about the plot and how outlast 2 provides ZERO time for hope. I guess that’s what made it scarier to me, being hopeless and always on edge. Outlast 1 was definitely the better game, but 2 scared me more.
I choose outlast1 because it had something that always made me think about government and why cia and these things do this and how secret they were, that elevator and that long time it got to get the first floor, its in my heart but outlast2 was way scarier it was the first time i had to stop the game for jump scares and these thing for the first time...
You made the story so easy to understand! Thank you so much! I was left really confused after finishing the game 😂 this cleared everything right up.
Glad it helped! Outlast 2 can be confusing!
I didn't manage to finish the 2nd game cause it's too much for me. So this video really helped a lot with understanding the story! Thank you! I hope you'll continue on doing this kind of series in the future
Haha yeah it is pretty intense at times!
Just finished it today, had to play without my headphones due to the intense and scary sounds lol 😂 but I do have to say that even after finishing the game for the first time I didn’t understand the story at all and it’s crazy how huge the lore is and the detail put into it by the devs
What I love about Outlast is that you're not really supposed to understand anything gameplay-wise only.
Red Barrels wants us to think deep and search for answers which is why I absolutely love the outlast games!
its been 3 days since I finished outlast 2 and I'm still thinking about it and looking for answers.
One thing that I still don't understand, is why and how the Walrider possessed... Ants?!
The ants suffer from PTSD after dealing with humans and rain, thus allowing the walrider to control them
@@PirateCat822 The Ants…
Suffer from PTSD…
@@ale-lx9gp in a world where dream controlled nanites exist, ants suffering from PTSD isn't too far fetched
@@PirateCat822 Agreed.
Just curious, did you get your information from official sources? Cheers
@@ale-lx9gp sauce:Trust me bro
You know, all this horrible stuff might sound like fiction, but it has happened somewhere at some point in history. If a human could imagine the most detestable thing, a human could carry such a thing out. Mankind needs fixing, and not the Outlast kind! Lol
Damn so the morphogenic engine is supposedly real then?
@@samhobart2754 might be one day or already is we dont know. But i feel like religious incest is real.

I have just finished Outlast 1, Whistleblower, and Outlast 2! I was so confused about the story, this video helped a lot.
I always felt like The priest in Blake’s flashback previously did some Awful things to Jessica and well I had an gut feeling that he molested her once and I think he killed her to keep her quiet if she were to sntich on him
i felt so bad 4 her./
Well yes … that’s kinda the plot
He literally just explained that
there were deleted audios that consists of the priest of r8ping jessica 😬😬😬😬
@@ssayrel8128 What? Where did you listen to that?
I'm glad someone finally picked back up on this game and really tied things together well! I have something I found while playing the game that I wanted to mention. As far as I can tell no one has really talked about this and maybe you could shed some light on it. You mentioned the walrider's existence in Temple Gate and the ants.
Here is the possible easter egg: Just before Blake enters the Scalled area, he attempts to cross a bridge and for some reason that is never explained a cloud of locust appears and pushes him off. This could be a hallucination but right after the event, another person claims to see the locust and others through out the village talk about it later.
I have always wondered after seeing the comics if this cloud of Locust may in fact be the walrider? Maybe they aren't even Locust, Ants can grow wings in some cases and this could be a joined swarm of them.
I wanted to throw this out there. It's eating away at me that nobody even talks about this moment like it's important. (A fucking swarm of bugs randomly lifts a dude and shoves him off a bridge.) Let me know if you have any idea about this or corrections. Thanks
Interesting thought! Well, Arizona has lots of locusts (being that it's dry and hot), so it could be that the Locust swarm was just Blake's bad luck. I think it's more that Blake is walking across a narrow beam at that point, and loses balance rather than being thrown off the bridge. That being said, the Locust seemed pretty aggressive, so you may be right in saying that the locust could be being controlled by the Walrider.
@@GamingHarryYT What made me think it might be something else is how Blake explained it. "They were trying to lift me" Could be crazy talk but still food for thought.
@@GamingHarryYT The locusts flash and glow like they're electric, and tbh that's the most explicit 'swarm' imagery we get in the game so I would definitely see that as a Walrider cameo. My question is whether it's Miles, and what his intent was - did he deliberately knock Blake down, or did he try to help but lost control?
In my mind, the locusts were also a hallucination since one of the gospel of Knoth notes mentions them as a sign of the antichrist or the end of the world (I cant remember which)
The outlast 2 plot drew some inspiration from the Jonestown massacre, there are a lot of similarities even with the names of the cults.
Absolutely. As well as the Heaven’s Gate mass suicide.
I'm too scared to play the game 🤣 and kinda confused so I'll have to watch it again but it sounds interesting 👌🏾
Haha yeah it's pretty scary! But give it a go, it's excellent!
So was I until i played u get into it
Its fun to play trust me you need play it
There's a mode for the game for enemies not to attack you, so you can just explore the story instead if you want.
Its fairly Scary But most mentally draining
The person/group who made this game is a genius. This is never a horror game for me, I see this as a logical masterpiece of art
Same! I love it!
The Outlast Trials is set in the cold war so I doubt Blake will be in it. Sad how their stories ended there.
Such a well made video. Love the detailing from you and also the fact that you included the plot, not leaving out anything important. Feels like scientific work to me😂
I was waiting for this to come out. Love the content, quite high quality. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed!
I started this game in the middle of 2020, made it to Josiah on the wheel and then forgot I owned it. Just finished tonight and had to hear a breakdown of the story. I prefer games with more obscure stories like this. It doesn’t feel like the developers are holding your hand and you have to figure out why things are happening on your own.
It was amazing how you had to reverse the audio from the School recordings to hear the hidden messages! I loved that concept!
Glad you took the time to explain the comic book too. I planned to read it years ago cuz i knew it explained more of the story, but never got around to it, then forgot it existed.
Outlast 1 and Whistleblower have great stories. They've unnecessarily overcomplicated it with Outlast 2 in my opinion. Next Outlast will probably connect the whole thing to aliens or something.
@@KawaiianArgument What a weird, gatekeepy attitude for something that literally requires you to read outside sources from the game to understand whats going on.
@@KawaiianArgument Very fucking important gaps. Literally how are you gatekeeping a single player story game. That's so fucking cringe.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if the next game tackles some kind of "manufactured rapture/alien invasion" - key word being manufactured. I found the religious elements in OL1 to be hackneyed, but it clicked in the second game: the series is about how trauma and technology are weaponized to control minds, and it is no accident that religion itself is treated like a mind control technique.
@@KawaiianArgument that’s a valid excuse. Nothing says “shit story” then having to read outside material
@@hydrophilicchristopher9874Exactly, nothing says bad writing like having to read cryptic notes written in religious mumbo-jumbo in order to get a clue to what is even going on. Outlast 1 and Whistleblower were much better games anyway
man poor Jessica, Blake didn't even gave her one smooch before she's gone.
Ur video explanation is great. I hadn't thought about how the deepness of the mines somewhat shielded Lynn from the signal.
ive watched all of these videos like 10 times, theyre awesome. i love the way you put the entirety of the story together so easily and i love your accent too hehe
Man you did a freaking fantastic job breaking this story down and explaining it!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! I honestly couldn't bring it all together on my own. Makes perfect sense now. Excellent series so far, probably the most disturbing too
I just want there to be outlast 3 in the old asylum
That would be good. It takes place during the Cold War, which ended in 1991, so it could possibly feature. Who knows!
@@GamingHarryYT Well that Will be Outlast Trials, the next outlast game. But maybe Outlast 3, which they wanna release after could continue the story of Waylon Park, Simon Peacock, Paul Marion and Walrider (Miles Upshur). Also Outlast Trials might take place in Mount Massive Asylum during the MKULTRA program, on which Murkoff and CIA worked together.
@@tomas_nehyba yeah outlast trials is not outlast 3 I don't think it will have any connection with the first two.

I'd be interested in a video specifically focusing on the school hallucinations and how Jessica's death was covered up as a suicide. That and how Knoth's cult directly parallels with the Catholic church.
Great job, I remember looking for an in-depth explanation on everything years ago but this one truly clears things up.
Considering what can be seen in the trailer for Outlast 3 and them saying they need to "dig in his head" it doesn't sound too unlikely that Blake makes a return in Outlast 3. Maybe as the protagonist, maybe as an enemy if not the "final boss".
The outlast trials is not outlast 3 it's a prequel set in the cold war

Thank you for this!🙏🏻
I am still wondering why Blake has those flashbacks to Jessica when nothing in the current situation that he was in points back to that period. I felt that it was just a way to make the gameplay varied and longer. It kinda took the flow of the main story away.
im pretty sure its the guilt of jessicas death. it was mentioned at the start he hadnt been sleeping properly because of it so it was going on for quite some time. it was there to provide a backstory. every time the bright light occurred from the murkoff tower it drove him to these hallucinations of jessica and what happened in the school that nobody knew about but him. combined with the fact he could’ve potentially saved her, they just happened while his mind was at its weakest
Yeah, also, Blake probably had negative viewpoints around religion as he was raised Catholic and saw how evil Loutermilch was. The thought of religion probably freaked him out and scarred him after Jessica died. Being thrust into that environment with crazy religious nut jobs like Knoth's cult members likely amplified his PTSD. So I think that us seeing what Blake endured as a kid at school is relevant to the story.
@@GamingHarryYT i never thought about that but that makes perfect sense too!
@@GamingHarryYT thanks guys. these are actually reasonable assumptions that I can apply. I guess it's not all fluff to make the game longer. I did enjoy the first one better though cause I seem to just run by all the enemies in this one in my first playthrough :p

15:10 this single piece of paper is the bane of this games existence. I’m one had it helps explain what’s going on in the story, on the other, it’s literally almost just this single piece of paper detailing what’s happening in the story. And it’s not like it’s obvious it’s literally in the middle of nowhere in the game. in fact, people will be even more confused with the aftermath comic.
