They left out the part about how all of us on the bridge at once caused it to flatten out. There were some very concerned engineers that day.

I was there at 27 and I will never forget it. It was overwhelming but it was iconic at the same time. This clip doesn't get the emotions and the vibe of wanting to be there. The 300 thousand number is all that could fit on the Bridge at one time. If you were there you know how we swayed the Bridge that day on purpose. Next to meeting my daughters mom and her birth this and the 1983 US festival are tied for 3rd place. The whole thing was just so amazing and crazy in a positive way...

My father and my uncles were working in San Francisco at the time The Bridge was first opened. There was a 3-day party in anticipation, and they stopped to relieve themselves on the Presidio side. They were surrounded by all sorts of stunt pedestrians- on pogo sticks, stilts, tap-dancing, to be "the first person to....". When they got to the Marin side, my uncle Fred looked my father and said "Stew! Your pants are unbuttoned." Now, to be sure, I can't claim to be 100 % sure, but it is very likely that my father, Stewart Potter, was the first man to walk across The Golden Gate Bridge....with his fly open.
