  • Showcasing Clayscapes combos along with Mayco and Coyote Glazes. A few misses and plenty of hits in this cone 6 firing. The twisty mugs turned out amazing! Watch Matthew Kelly Pottery for the full tutorial on how this technique is done.

34:57 that blue makes it a little to busy and doesn't show off the wolf enough in my opinion. That twisty mugs are gorgeous. You gave me so glaze ideas I had a lot of things that need to be glazed. So thank you. :)

In response to your question on gray.
    It's a calming color.
    In my opinion.
In today's nutty world, coming home to a simple non intrusive home palette but comfortable within personal space may be what will be in fashion. Most wouldn't even associate this thought of gray equals calm, but I do.
As for me, I like lots of glass, ceramics, burgundy, brown, gold and metallic tones.
Anyway, that's my thought. Thanks for asking, and reading. Your work is beautiful and thanks for all your great tips on your YT channel. You do you and the world will catch up when they are ready.

I agree that gray and white can be calming to some. Gray is depressing to me, but your comment of having other things as splashes of color I'm totally in agreement. It's the absence of all that, the starkness I see in a lot of design, which I don't like, and it makes me sad. Color to me is a celebration. But I am a bit of a hippie. 😀
Thanks for your comment and for watching.

Very clever idea making drip catchers on the mugs! I'd call them "skirted" mugs. And that Coyote Rainy Day glaze is beautiful! Will have to find that one and give it a try! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

OOOH SO MUCH TO LOVE IN HERE!! That owl!!! I Love that you glazed the pitcher for your neighbor, how sweet of you!! Absolutely LOVE the sea turtle plates too. Id love a video on how you do the silkscreening. I’m assuming it’s a lot like the stencils? So glad I saw how much your winterwood and rose quartz ran!! I have a big piece that I tried that on. I will definitely be wiping back some of that!! I totally get what you mean with the blue trees on the background of the wolf platter. The other colors are earthy and the blue is too stark? Thanks so much for these kiln openings. I enjoy them so very much.

So, yes, I have a grey and white painted house...HOWEVER, in the LR, the couches are turquoise with a couple of lime green and purple bolster pillows and an orange and deep red arabic type area ruggable carpet ...sounds awful but its actually outstanding (IMHO) kitchen, white cabinets with multi shades of turquoise tumbled sea glass, broken up seashells embedded in travertine type cement countertops. LOL love every inch of it all.........AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE pretty much EVERYTHING that came out of this kiln opening!!! That pitcher and your fish platters would go GREAT in my kitchen!

Love your Kiln openings. So much talent in your studio. For me I cant go past that passion flower glaze WOW, cant wait till my supplier has it here in Australia.
As for your question about the colours in peoples homes: Shawn James on My Self Reliance has an interesting take on that. He believes and I subscribe to his theory also, that as people are not so much in Nature now with the monotones of say the winter they are more interested in the neutral states of colour as their lives are so busy otherwise. He puts it so much better than I can ever attempt too, but yeah, for example. I live in the subtropical rainforest. All green so I tend to gravitate towards the more colourful palette or the snow scape type palette just because my normal state is green green and more green with a hue or two of brown.

    • @hobblecreekpottery
      @hobblecreekpottery  Год назад +1

That's very interesting. I've never thought about that. It would explain my love of color as growing up in Alaska, I had 9 months of winter. Lol, white and gray. So, color added warmth to the cold. Makes perfect sense. Thank you.

I always enjoy your videos. The owls are super cute! Have you thought about shell or baby turtle sauce bowls to go with the sushi plates? I like the wolf plate with the green leaf and ancient jasper rim, but I think I prefer the black UG transfer to the blue...but the blue is pretty too, and I'm sure there are people who will prefer it over the black. Everyone's taste is different, and that's a good thing!
You and your studio mates have such creative minds. Some of the glaze combos in this load were stellar! I'm going to have to be trying more combos here. I'm bad about doing test tiles. I really need to make myself put some in every load.
How's the hubs and new grandbaby doing? You didn't mention them in this video. And your knees are better? Stay centered, my friend!

Hubby is coming along, but it's a slow progress. Baby Ryker is adorable. It's crazy how deep and fast you can fall in love with the little ones. I agree Bout the wolf platter. Someone will love it, but I prefer the black for me too. Thanks for asking about the family and for watching. ❤️
