- In this video we introduce you to Denon's HEOS, or Home Entertainment Operating System, and give you a breakdown of how to use it.
The HEOS app allows you to control music through your entire house from your smartphone or tablet. What makes HEOS so unique is that it allows you to create multiple listening zones throughout your house. You can listen to multiple songs or combine zones into a party mode and play the same song through all the speakers. HEOS also allows you to adjust the volume from the app so you can control the level in every room.

Great Vid with a lot of infos most vids don't show in such detail. Is it possible to play the Cable TV sound the AVR gets over (e)ARC simultaniously on the AVR and on an Heos speaker or can you only use inputs the heos app includes?

I have a denon avr with HEOS. I have a front left, right, center and sub wire connected to the AVR. Can I use HEOS to connect 2 wireless speakers as surround rears for a 5.1 HT setup
Heos is solid. Get a great wifi router (mesh) and you shouldn't have any issues. I've had great luck for the last 4 years. My review iovers from 2-5 stars over the years.
I have 2 Heos amps pushing 8 speakers (2 rooms to a zone, 2 speakers to a room - speakers are mounted in ceiling) which were already installed at a house I bought in Jan. 2018 (the speakers, not the amps). The dude who sold me the Heos amps was absolutely worthless and essentially flat out said he did not feel like getting in my attic to run a dig opt cable for surround sound. Different story for another day.
Question: I do a lot of work out in my garage in the evening and want music out there. Heo's pushes two Bose speakers on my patio but I'd like something louder and closer (My house has a detached garage so I have to blare the neighbors to hear it out there. Especially when running saws and all sorts of tools.
If anyone on this thread is a reseller or channel partner of Heos, I would love to speak with them.

I have a HEOS system in my home. I set it up many years ago and have been adding speakers over time. When it works it sounds great! I put the system on a NetGear router and have a good signal throughout my house. That being said I find that I have to reset the router, IpAd, and speakers frequently. Often times I can not group speakers and other times they just loose communications to the router. The speakers show up in the router menu as not communicating. I ran cables in the basement to connect each speaker and that worked until mice chewed threw my cables. I am going to run new network cables in above the ceilings. Great system when it works.
you mean the problem (ex mice) refers only to wireless speakers?

why would a named zone just disappear? what do you do just add it back in and hit the reconnect on back of the speaker because my patio speakers are mounted kind of high up on the patio wall. any imput?

HEOS Question. Do I have to have HEOS speakers? I am buying the Denon DRA 800 H because I do not want a ton of wires or gear in my small room. Gonna run wired speakers Hersey IV, will the HEOS app manage the music from my Android phone will the receiver accept or read the phone and play the music from my Amazon Music Acct?
Do you know how I get RUclips music to play via HEOS? I have successfully linked HEOS to Google Home but can't work out how to get RUclips to play on my new Marantz system. Amazon Prime Music was no problem as it was on the HEOS menu.
Can you configure a zone to include a mix of wired and wireless speakers? I would like to keep my front speakers wired but have 2 wireless rear speakers.

Yes, but you are then limited to the music of streaming service. What separates HEOS is that it can take multiple sources like CDs, Vinyl, television, etc. and broadcast that to multiple rooms. HEOS also lets you control the volume level in every room from your smart device. The Denon speakers also provide a far superior sound than an Amazon Echo.
I do not really see why I need this on avr? Also why would I not just use a Bluetooth speaker?

HEOS has lots of connection issues with my marantz avr. Sometimes it works good and some days is has problems connecting. Marantz tech support is unable to resolve. Poor system.
Yeah, I have a Marantz 7012 avr. Streaming deezer or Spotify works. Using the option "this phone" to stream your music on your phone does not work: "unable to play the media. Please try again later. " A pity..
is this with "Wired" speakers?
Streaming services are not built in, they are part of the app

Not without adding other components into the mix does do Amazon HD without adding anything.

absolutely there are a variety of streaming services that the HEOS app supports, including Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM and many others.
It would be great to know what I have to do if I want to stream audio which is playing on my phone, no matter if on spotify or google podcasts, to my denon speakers.

good luck i have had nothing but problems with this system. my patio speaker just disappear and cant get it back up so i guess i will have to add it my in - just not sure
I used to be able to play Spotify through Heos on my phone connected to my Marantz amp but now won't let me, everything else seems to play ok except Spotify, does anyone have any tips to fix this issue?

At 3:32, you showed that your Home Theater AVR has 3 zones set up. So HEOS can detect that your AVR has 3 zones? Did you have to configure your AVR in certain way? And what model of AVR is it? Thanks
The HEOS app detected 3 zones, the two devices I demonstrated and the AVR we had have hooked up in our theater.
The home theater AVR is a Marantz receiver that has HEOS built into it. So when you download the app and are setting up the receiver it should be detected and can be set up in the same way the speakers were set up in the video.
Thanks for the reply. However, I believe that HEOS cannot manage sources (such as Spotify) to individual zones within the receiver? HEOS sees the receiver as one zone, so Spotify (for example) will be played on ALL zones within the receiver - you cannot for example select Zone 3 within the receiver and want to play Spotify on Zone 3. Spotify will play on all zones within the receiver. You can however thru HEOS, turn on/off the zones within the receiver as you demonstrated. Is the above correct?
If I wanted Zone 3 (within the receiver) to controlled by HEOS, would I need to put the HEOS Amp (hook up my speakers in Zone 3 into HOES Amp) for HEOS to see it as a heos zone?

I’m a Deezer HiFi subscriber and thus far I cannot stream in HEOS app in no better than 320kbps MP3. Gotta use the Deezer App my iPhone and use AirPlay. It’s pointless to have a DENON AVR and a whole Denon environment with HEOS home speakers all over the house if I must stream in lame MP3 sound quality. No responses from DENON despite my contact attempts... Shame on you Denon

The Heos app could really use and update, the UI looks so dated ~ Heos Link also seems rather overpriced for what is basically a raspberry pi in a giant box~
HEOS NEEDS QOBUZ SUPPORT!
Receivers with Heos built in is a terrible, roundabout way to play media. Why can't they just allow you to connect a phone and play audio via Bluetooth? Oh, right, they want their app on your phone so they can scrape your device for data (telemetry, gotta love it).
I can play Spotify from my iPhone by hitting Bluetooth on the remote and connecting but yeah this heos sounds stupid and I’m not even gonna download it

Bluetooth has very limited bandwidth. HEOS, AirPlay, Spotify Connect and any other platform that uses WiFi or wired ethernet connection can stream MUCH higher bandwidth and therefore higher quality music files. The HEOS app (along with Sonos and Airplay to a degree) also gives much better control over grouping speakers or sending music to more than one speaker system.

The whole be internet is fludded with people raging with people claiming it is useless. Does not connect and loses connection all the time. Why have you not recalled the line as it is clearly sub par and damaging the denon brand

this is a really stupid system i have never had a system like this. I have spent a lot of money but cant even get speakers to work half the time
