Thanks for your reaction--I really enjoyed it. Yes Geoff Castellucci has an amazing 5 octave range and is getting more and more attention on the internet with his work as the bass singer for acappella group Voice Play and his solo channel as well. He frequently harmonizes with the clones of himself on his solo channel. The back up singer for Elvis that you were thinking about was J D Sumner, a gospel singer that held the record for lowest note recorded for a long time before Tim Storms broke the record. Interesting that you mentioned this as Geoff recently did a cover of the Elvis with Sumner backup "Way Down" on his solo channel that is quite humorous. Geoff's speaking voice is deep and he has some Edgar Allen Poe readings and narrations included on his channel. I think you would really enjoy checking out more of Voice Play and Geoff Castellucci's solo work.
Actually it is a 7 octave range if you count the most but still partial range he has at the top and the bottom, something that has basically yet to be matched in recorded times.
You listened to Tennessee Ernie Ford, now you need to listen to Geoff singing 16 Tons. Also, Bare Necessities, Blackbirds, Monster Mash, country Roads, House of the Rising Sun, and others.
Check him out in a group called Voice Play singing the Oogie Boogie song. Their version of the song and the rest of the acapella group is great. The last note will slay you...
My favorite thing is watching someone hear/see Geoff for the first time. You did not disappoint! As far as I know, he does not have a live recording of this piece, but there are several live recordings of him with Voiceplay on RUclips and he is on TikTok live. Please react to more of his solo work, then, when you are feeling brave, listen to Voiceplay sing Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Trust me!
Check out Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold by Geoff Castellucci. You wont regret it. That also goes for Sixteen Tones done by Geoff Castellucci. Then check out VoicePlay's The Dragonborn Comes. VoicePlay blows a lot of reactors minds when they hear them for the first time. We will be here with you for your experience. 👍
Legendary bass singer JD Sumner and his group were the opening act for Elvis, and then part of the King's backup singers. Geoff covers both Elvis and JD in Way Down. It's amazing, and lots of fun.
This is 100% pure Geoff, been watching him for couple years now, he tells and shows how he has worked to get those subwoofer note. He has a 5 octive range. Listen to him in. Wait for the Bass
Great reaction Geoff is a bass in a capella group call voiceplay. Please react to voiceplay too please I recommend you voiceplay hoist the colours (pirates of caraibbian 3 song). It’s epic
The bass that sang with Elvis Presley was ME Sumner. Geoff Castellucci did a video of Elvis song Way Down where I'D went down to a C1. Geoff did that as well in his version. Tidbit... Always watch to the credits at the end of both his and Voiceplay videos. Most of the time they throw in little surprises after a brief pause. Geoff is the bass for Voiceplay. Geoff also released a new video yesterday morning. The Rains of Castamere from Game of Thrones. He portrays the 4 Lannister men.
He does a lot of this stuff on his tiktok live! He is 100% real, no studio tricks, in this song he only went down to a G1, which isn't even close to his lowest note.
Great reaction. Would love for you to react to more of Geoff, he has a lovely baritone voice and can indeed sing tenor parts and has a phenomenal bass range. As others have mentioned he is the bass singer for a capella group Voiceplay. They are equally brilliant..
We ladies love those low notes. Goes straight to our hearts. Geoff just did a cover of the Elvis song Way Down. That guy who sings that low note you spoke of. Took Geoff 80 takes before he figured out how to hit that C1 at the end.
Was so happy you got to Geoff. Him and the group he performs with (and cofounded) Voice Play are very fun rabbit holes to fall into. So much talent. Tim from Home Free is like Geoff.. 5 octave ranges. Geoff has done videos about how he developed his lower register.
Geoff roughly has a 5 octave range, from low bass all the way up to tenor, which is why he can harmonize with himself in his solo work. He also sings a cappella with his group VoicePlay, which he is a founding member of since 1997. If you want to hear him "live" he has some tiktoks out. and yup, he really can sing that low, his regular chest voice goes all the way down to F#1. below that he uses a subharmonic technique to get all the way down to B0. I'm a patron of his, and of VoicePlay, and Geoff is often practicing his low notes without thinking about it during the webchats or livestreams in the background. he works on them so often on a daily basis that he often doesn't even notice he's doing it, lol. other people might hum a tune when distracted or thinking, Geoff drops earthshattering low notes while doing that 🤣🤣
geoff is in a group called voiceplay which have done live takes of medleys in which geoff has hit lows before and he has a couple videos on his own channel on how to sing low which also shows it
Oh, my, I was not expecting that! My dad would've loved it because he sang in a lower register, too. Dad could sing comfortably in Johnny Cash's lower range. Dad always wanted to sing with a doo-wop group.
Rebecca, you might want to check out VoicePlay’s cover of Daddy Sang Bass. Geoff is the bass for that a cappella group and they did a really nice job of it. It’s very heartwarming. You might also enjoy the cover that they did of Tennessee wWhiskey if country flavored songs are your thing. Also on Geoff’s channel personal channel he has a lot of songs that have Southern roots. He was born in West Virginia and it shows. We get a lot of y’all’s from him.😄
I recognized you immediately and am subscribed, but don't remember which artists you covered that I was watching... anyway, it's good to see you here, since I enjoy your reactions and I follow Geoff and VoicePlay closely (Geoff is VoicePlay's bass, one of the founding members, and does about half of their arrangements: check them out, you will be amazed. VP is a cappella.) Geoff' recently released Elvis' song, Way Down. The bass singer you mentioned was in the original Elvis song; Geoff covers both voices in his arrangement. It's fun - a little bit silly and a whole lot of gorgeous singing. Today everyone is obsessed w/ the song he dropped today, from Game of Thrones. It's VERY deep. Definitely bone-rattlingly deep. Now I'm off to your channel to remind myself of why I know you....(edit: definitely Dimash, and probably a few others....)
I am familiar with him. This song came up on my feed. I didn't listen to it. How can anyone do it as good as Bill Withers. I am glad you reacted to it. Wow! Meatloaf would record his harmonies and play them behind him at concerts. He would have to do the same. Great reaction Harri!!!!
Geoff's range is A0 (last note on a piano) to A5 for a full 5 octaves. He is part of VoicePlay which is absolutely my favorite acapella or any group. They are so talented.
Great reaction, Harri! I’m glad you found Geoff-there’s lots more to check out. In fact he recently released Way Down, one of Elvis’s songs, with that infamous C1 at the end (he said it took him 80 tries to nail it). I hope you’ll also check out his group, Voiceplay. They are amazing!
He actually did a cover of "Way Down" by Elvis Presley...a song that originally included the bass singer you were talking about :) Its a really fun cover.
He is the best singer for the a cappella group VoicePlay. They’ve done some beautiful ballad styles songs including Elvis‘s can’t help falling in love and Tennessee whiskey.
And, it's not all about those super low notes. I am a basso profondo (with a range lower than most Oktavists; my lowest sub is Eb0), my highest falsetto note is a C#6, and even I have been in awe with Geoff's vocal gymnastics since the first time I heard him. My favorite singer, hands down.
You should check out more of his videos both live and recording studio. I'm not sure you realize that he just sang you a song that he alone was performing all of the voices you herd. All 5 octaves were performed by him. I believe he can sing every note on a piano keyboard
Another good reaction. As others have pointed out, most of his work is with an amazing band called, Voiceplay - go check out their cover of Dream On - it's amazing. But first, listen to his version of an old song about coal mining called 16 Tons - fantastic take and really show cases his talent.
And when you are done with Voicplay's cover of Dream On, listen to this even more creative and amazing version by Post Modern Jukebox featuring the great Morgan James (ever wonder what a former opera singer performing with a retro jazz band taking on a great rock song sounds like? Probably not - but you will be blown away - trust me)
That's some mind blowing stuff. I have to be skeptical as well and would want to see him live. It just seems too unreal. I have never heard of this guy but if he does indeed have that much range and depth, I would love to see a lot more.
He has a number of TikTok videos where he sings live because of everyone questioning him. My favorite of his live TikTok‘s is still the Oogie boogie song from Nightmare before Christmas. On his personal channel he also does a lot of narrations and he has that gorgeous voice when he speaks as well.
Wonderful reaction! Geoff's voice is just extraordinary. He has some raw clips of his singing on Tiktok, if you ever wanted to check that out. Of course there's always some post-production on these professional music videos, but that's still all him hitting those ridiculous lows. Thanks for checking him out, and hope you listen to more from him! His Sixteen Tons is amazing, as is Misty Mountains (if you like LOTR or fantasy).
Harri, the look on your face was like you just stepped off a cliff and realized it too late! You almost looked frightened to death at his deep notes, ha, ha! Jeff Casttelucci is absolutely subterranean in the notes he achieves in the low octaves. It is best listened to with a subwoofer attached to your stereo! 😯
It's funny you mention the guy that sang with Elvis. If you haven't seen it yet, Geoff covered Elvis' "Way Down" and he does both parts from Elvis and JD Sumner. It's a really fun one!
This being a post-pandemic video, I don't know if there are any live videos of up anywhere, of Geoff doing this specific song; but there are numerous live-performance videos of VoicePlay from the before times, doing various other songs, e.g., there are January 2020 recordings from someplace called the "Gordon Performance Center", of Elvira and the top-ten Disney villain song medley, both of which contain some reasonably prominent "Geoff notes". The one I want to see him do live is Way Down (with Eli and Cesar for the backup parts). But, again, it's a post-pandemic addition to the repertoire, so we won't get to see that until they start touring again, whenever THAT happens. The CDC did officially relax some of its recommendations yesterday, so perhaps there is hope... eh, who am I kidding, this whole decade is gonna be the Terrible Twenties. At least with the internet people like Geoff can still share their talents with us.
Welcome to The Rabbit Hole! Geoff is fantastic! He is the bass singer for an acappella group called VoicePlay. I'm so glad you found him! He is really a low bass that can go up 5 octaves up into tenor. Tim Foust from Home Free and Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix are also low bass singers but I think Geoff is the lowest.
YOU really need to hear his cover of...16 Tons.
Check out his version of Sixteen Tons! Very impressive!
The only thing better than listening to Geoff Castellucci's voice, is listening to 4 of them, in stereo 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for your reaction--I really enjoyed it. Check out Voice Play it's the group Geoff leads, try My Mother Told me. Or the Dragonborn Comes.
Hoist the Colors.
Oooooooooooooohhhh! The look on your face Harri spoke volumes to my exact reaction to his voice!!
He does a great cover of the Beatles song Blackbird.
Legendary bass singer JD Sumner and his group were the opening act for Elvis, and then part of the King's backup singers. Geoff covers both Elvis and JD in Way Down. It's amazing, and lots of fun.
And be sure to eight until the Patreon credit rolls. Sometimes he sneaks in a little extra tidbit at the very very end.

Read and/or was told that it is now six-octave range🎶
Great harmony with himself!
My friend Hari, please hear 16 Tons and House of the Rising Sun also
If you want to see Geoff live, you should watch Voiceplay - Elvira
You really should listen to him as part of the group VoicePlay. They are an acapella group.
Crazy deep voice .
Great reaction

He and his group VoicePlay are awsome, I highly recommend checking them out more!
Like said below: his version of Sixteen Tons is remarkable!
Thanks for the reaction, Harri!! Glad you liked it!

Check out Geoff's version of Sixteen Tons it will not disappoint!
You are in for such a treat! All of Geoff's songs as well as all of the a cappella greatness of Voiceplay are WELL worth a listen!
Geoff is the king of low bass.
lowest note on chest voice is an F#1, lowest note on subharmonics is a B0
And lowest on growl is an A0.

Love the hell out of this!
Harri, Damn I’ve never heard such a deep voice, at first I thought it was going to be Greek chanting, thanks it was awesome
He just dropped a song from Game of Thrones that is earthshaking
Bass, Baritone and Tenor.

Geoff has some of the best covers on RUclips! You'll love watching him match the JD Sumner C1 note in "Way Down" by Elvis. :D And don't miss Sixteen Tons!
JD Sumner sang bass with Elvis. Listen to Geoff's cover of "Way on Down"
Geoff is a bass
Geoff is actually a Bass singer with an extraordinarily wide range. Check out the live version of Oogie Boogie Man by Voice Play. Geoff is the bass singer for Voice Play.
Love your reactions 👍 check out Geoff's cover of Elvis's Way Down which has the low note by JD Sumner and his cover of the Beatles Blackbird
Who in the world is this! Fantastic
Great reaction, if you liked that Geoff has a new one out The rains of Castamere from game of thrones that's excellent.
Bill Withers said that he was inspired to write this song after watching the 1962 movie "DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES " the film depicts the downward spiral of two everyday Americans ( Lemmon and Remick) who succumb to alcoholism to deal with their problems.
When it comes to Men with great Bass voices try Tim Foust from Home Free.
I agree. You've never heard a "baritone" voice like that.
Geoff has an elvis song too. Its called Way Down.
Funny you should mention JD Sumner (Elvis' bass) ...Geoff recently recorded Way Down.
👍
He is a Generation Y. Meaning he is a wandering musician like in medieval times he goes from home to home seeling his ware, in this case his rendention of his individual repertoire of songs. he is not a bartone but is a low bass.
He's got a video where he says he considers himself to be more of a baritone then a bass because he feels more comfortable singing in the baritone range.
You’d be referring to J.D. Sumner who sang with Elvis and was the Guinness world record holder for lowest human voice even 14 years after his death, until 2012 when Tim Storms shattered his record.
Geoff does a cover of a classic Elvis song with J.D.’s low bass part prominent. “Way Down” is the track title.
Michael Bolton has a very jazzy version of this song
No studio tricks except recording himself 5 times. If you like Elvis, check out Geoff’s version of Way Down
This is impressive. But if you want to hear a voice with an even greater range, check out Diamanda Galas someday - she’s a real force of nature!
I think I like his version better than the original.
Sounds to me like that other group not the pentatonic can't think what they called but just like them as ones got a very deep voice
Tim Foust from Home Free! He sings as low as Geoff but I prefer the beautiful tone of Geoffs voice!
@@suzybailey5501 yeah that who I was thinking home free
He's a bass :)
Thought I was listening to Crash Test Dummies for a second there.

Geoff, did a cover of the Elvis Presley song you are thinking of, came out about 1 month ago, check it out.........>^^
wow. he vibrating mtyheadphones. Had to turn it down a bit.
He is really a low bass that can go up 5 octaves up into tenor. Tim Foust from Home Free and Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix are also low bass singers but I think Geoff is the lowest.
Not my fac check out john Mayer version
JD Summer was much lower bass than Geoff
Yeah, so he doesnt get anywhere Near his lowest or highest in this video
This guys good but he ain’t no Bill Withers!
Pretty , but they stole the sole.
Nope I'll take Bill Withers every day of the week. Oh hell no!
