  • Making your own birthday candles is quick, easy and fun to do. It’s a great way to add a personal touch to a birthday cake. I recommend using a pillar wax (in Australia you can find soy and olive pillar wax) or beeswax which also works well. This type of wax is firmer and so works better than a container wax. Use the thinnest wick size you can find (pre-waxed wicks work better as already hold their shape rather than string).
Once the wax has melted, the candles take only a minute or so to make (usually around 10 dips each). I pour the excess wax into silicone moulds to set and can then reuse it at a later date.
You can add natural colours to make them more fun, such as a pinch of turmeric for a yellow candle, charcoal for black or spirulina for green. Just add the colour into the melted wax before dipping the wicks.
I hope this is helpful and gives you a fun idea for your next birthday party!
