Amazing stuff, thanks for sharing! I found it more effective to first flatten the molten end of the pen against something flat to give the tip a bit more thickness, then heated it up again and it moulded around my N64 screws beautifully.
It was a good video and I liked that you showed your various attempts when they didn't work because it shows us that you can fail doing this and that you just need to keep on trying.
Im gonna try this. Ive got a Sega Game Gear I want to open up to fix the speaker, but it has a pesky Gamebit screw. Edit: It worked! Thanks for the video.
you saved my ass today, did this to open my just arrived paprium cartridge which came with a loose heatsink inside it because of bad handling! thanks!!
Thank you for this trick. I came across this video looking for screwdrivers. I didn’t want to wait till tomorrow to get it from Amazon My son wanted to try out my old Nintendo 64 and the reset button was stuck I was able to get all 6 screws out. Thanks
Woooooow!!!! Thank you soooooo much for sharing this!! It works with opening a gamecube also!! I watched soooo many videos that didn't work ... Thanks again!
I have the exact same problem (well, I will have, since I want to buy a Gameboy again with Pokémon) I will try this in my copy of Chase H.Q since it's the only Gameboy game I have. edit: it actually worked wtf
Be careful with this. Its a 50-50 shot of whether it will work cleanly or not. I've broken pieces of my N64's shell using this method because the pen wouldn't let go of the screw.
I would buy a flat head screwdriver and file the center a bit so as to leave 2 edges. I have done it once for my bike. Bike wheels need a special tool to adjust the spokes.
Works perfectly with a 3.5m screwdriver. Although something like 3.8 or 4.0 mm would be better, on 3.5 there is just a tiny amount left, so it might break at some point.
well... there was a time when i tried that... doesn't work very well if at all. I would just drop a couple of [enter your currency here] and get the real deal.
Some screws are just tighter than others. I know my Pokemon Gold was really stubborn the first time I ever opened it...and I was using an actual security bit! The pen trick only really works good if the material of plastic is really hard when it solidifies, such as with the pens that almost look like they're made of glass. Those are the best ones to use if you don't currently have a bit on you imo.
@@cullbear55 Thanks for your response, I kept trying and eventually the plastic cartridge around the screw broke Dx Not a big deal though, just taped the top of it and slid the cartridge together with a new battery Works good as new!
@@Frequently1 That's good to hear! And yeah, it's not a big deal if the plastic cracks because you can get a replacement shell later. Glad you got it fixed! I just used a Sonic 2 cartridge to pre-mold some pen screwdrivers and opened up a Japanese N64 I got today to modify the slot to fit and play U.S. games too. I only needed 1 to get it open and 2 to screw it back together. Works! I'm happy because I've never had an N64 before. :D

I tries this on an Nes cartridge but the sockets are too deep to get much plastic in it.
I did this and worked perfect! Thank you!
I came to see the diy screwdriver.
I stayed to watch you succeed.
Me too, I just want to see how it goes while I save some money

Bro, are you serious?? I just opened a GameCube with this!!! Thank you you are more than awesome!!!!
Hi. I used your tutorial about two months ago and I forgot to thank you. So thank you! It was very helpful!
this brings me back in time.
you saved my ass today, did this to open my just arrived paprium cartridge which came with a loose heatsink inside it because of bad handling! thanks!!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Great stuff
Worked like a charm after a bit thank you!

I’m 11 and imo the n64 is one the best consoles. On my list it’s up by the switch and the ps3
Thanks to this I opened my Gamecube and fixed my disc drive :) THX
wow it actually worked man... a plastic pen and a lighter is all you need... thx for the help
BROOOOO UR A F LEGEND, THIS LIKE THE TOP NINTENDO MOD LIFE HACK I EVER LEARNED, THANK UUUUUUUUUUUUU

i was astounded that this actually worked
I liked the video solely because you recommended disliking the video if we didn't like it.

At that point take some needle nose pliers and break the pen lol
And I tried using needle nose pliers to open mine up, well won't work.. the needle nose isn't thin enough to fit
Bros a genius
Totally worked! Thx
Lmao it really worked for my Super Nintendo! Thanks
I will try this when I am off vacation and when I will try to open my broken SNES. I will leave an edit to say if it worked or not. 😎
did it work? I'm planning to open my gamecube with this.
I honestly had no idea that there was a battery in there
Dude nice hack! Thank you
Danke dir! 🤘🏻
Thanks G

A cat peed on my N64 console!
I did this for my Gameboy Color and now there is dry plastic inside one of the screw holes. What can I do to fix it? Please help
Use soldering iron to melt the plastic inside the screw
Or use a precision knife and get it out
@@JariAkagamiOfficial314 that does not sound right
Ace haha - will give it a go
Now I have melted plastic firmly locking the screw in place and preventing an actual screwdriver from being able to turn it. Awesome method!
You shouldn't melt it into oblivion man :D
I just remembert today i gotta open my nes cassette And dont’t have a tool will try this
Omg this is cool and it works!
Genius!
lmao It was working till the the pen broke
now the plastic is stuck there and i cant get it out
Rip
Just melt the broken end onto the stuck bit and let it cool, then pull it out.
@@EpicLPer Tried that but only a little piece came out.
Gonna try it again later
Thanks anyways xd at least i know it can work
better than it melting the cartridge
Is there any way to make one WITHOUT a lighter?
Will this work on n64 games?
just buy the 3.8mm gamebit
@@gamecubeplayer yeah the pen kinda sucks
Will this work for my GameCube? I ordered a bit online but when it came in it was only for gameboy cartridges.
Do those have the Gamebit too? If so you can try of course. If they have Triwings it should still work.
EpicLPer ok thanks!
Think there are also 2 different sizes of the gamebit.
@@HappyBeezerStudios
Late to reply, but yeah. Nintendo cartridges use the 3.8mm game bit, while the consoles use a slightly bigger 4.5mm.

FinalplayerRyu That's why I mentioned it multiple times in the video ;)
Can't be mentioned often enough...
It works!
Does this work on NES games?
Yes, it does

does it work with tri wing screws?
Nah son.
it broke inside the screw I have no way getting the plastic out. Fuck I'm fucked
Cannot get this to work. Tried 5 different mechanical pencils / pens. Not even 1 lick of movement on the screw. Dunno why, but doesn't work for me
