    “Nature does not hurry, yet everything gets accomllished” - Lao Tzu ✨ you explain it so well...silence is a blissful sound. my favorite part of most days is when i go on walks or runs outside with the birds and the trees and the leaves and everything just...is. no matter what season of the year or what’s going on in the world. so peaceful with all the external noise ♥️ xx

    I feel also that I need to learn to be in silence. For instance, I wish to be able to run outdoors without music. What is helping me now, since I am living alone, is to switch off the phone as soon as I come back home and don't have any other kind of device on. I definetely feel more in peace with myself since I start to do it. And even more productive. Nice to speak about this topic

      Federica Aresu I love running without music. I actually can’t stand to run with music. Running without music is almost like meditation. Just focus on your breathing. I do 1 deep controlled breath per 3 steps (4 if I’m not out of breath at all). And then a deep controlled breath out on the next 3 strides. It allows you to clear your mind and only focus on your breaths in and out.

    • @somethinglikeacloud
      @somethinglikeacloud 5 лет назад

      @@jamesfleming1155 I love this breathing technique! I will try this on my next run. I also love doing audible breathing everyday before/after my jogs - really large inhales, and then really loud exhales "shhhh," or "haaaaaaa." Sounds a bit odd, but it definitely helps ground me.
      Running without music allows you to get into that "flow" state so much easier. It's beautiful to forget about the outside world for a few moments.

    • @jamesfleming1155
      @jamesfleming1155 5 лет назад

      Julia Hall totally agree! It also helps with pacing. I can run the same average mile within a few seconds because I run at the pace of my breath. Happy running!

    I struggle with this so much! Especially when I work at home or run errands or commute, I am always listening to a podcast or audio book. I think it's because I'm afraid of silence (even though I know it is necessary for self-connection). So I love meditation for that reason. But am definitely going to start challenging myself to be okay with silence from time to time.

  • @sking3225

    Appreciated this video, I’ve been more intentional lately, taking time to “just be quiet” or sit in silence...no distractions so that I can sit with my thoughts. Even plan to walk around my neighborhood now that it will be getting cooler. No music, just a silent walk or an occasional podcast for self improvement.
    Nice that you have the little cabin get aways!

    This topic really hit home for me Caitlin. I have found that I am filling the silent times in my life lately because I am trying to avoid things (work, relationships, my inner thoughts). Ughhh. I am definitely taking this video as a sign to me to dive into the silence. Put down the devices and go inward. Thanks for this reminder. Silence is good and allows your brain to take a break from all the chaos that it is dealing with at all times. Sending lots of love and good vibes from Kenya!

    I love this so much. I've been on a journey lately internally...I became obsessed with this idea that I should become a certified nutritionist and begin my own business online and all this stuff. But I think it was more like an Instagram reel in my head of what I wanted life to look like...when the truth is, my life can look like that now. I've been refocusing and getting more in touch with my mind and my heart, and even my current, normal full time job...realizing the ways I can learn and grow right where I am, and the freedom I have to embrace all of my passions (creating art! reading books!) outside of work (because my hours are great!). Part of it comes from my current pregnancy journey, as well (due in December!). It's caused a lot of self reflection and has made me consider what truly matters to me and what feels good. I'm still figuring it out....but being by myself in silence seems to help the most in urging this type of introspection. Kudos to you for paying attention to your mental health and seeking peace/a getaway. Thanks for sharing this!

    This is great! Lately, when I wake up in the mornings, I've been making a conscious effort to not touch my phone or my computer, and to get more into journaling or reading in the morning. Having moments to let your mind wander has helped to keep me in better touch with my physical, emotional, and mental health.

      Hannah, this is such a smart habit! It's wild how accustomed we are to check our phones first thing when we wake up in the morning; thinking about it, this is just bound to raise anxiety levels, which is the last thing any of us need.
      I'm focusing on leaving my phone on airplane mode outside of my room as I sleep. We don't need those EMF's anyways :)

  • @somethinglikeacloud

    I really appreciate the way you approached this topic. Over the past few months, I have felt so overwhelmed by social media, news, honestly the world as a whole, and whenever I go out in nature, or out for walks or runs, I have just been leaving my phone behind. People think it's so odd, but it gives me so, so much more headspace. Like, does that email notification about a vegan protein powder discount really matter right now? Lol. Whenever I ditch my phone, I become so much more present, composed; I am able to actually tune into the moment rather than focusing on the forty-seven tasks I need to complete right after.
    I knew that taking a break from music, podcasts, and noise felt good, but I didn't know why exactly; and the way you explain it in this video is so lovely.
    Especially pertaining to social media...I agree that it just doesn't seem so important anymore. All the posts, stories, pictures, kinda start to look the same after a while. In the end, if I am content with the way my life is, why does it matter that I manifest my entire life to everyone in society?
    Thank you, Caitlin :) xx

    Thinking stuff!!! I used to always be so envious of certain places, it would give me a headache. You just go and be there and meditate on how it makes me feel and enjoy the perspective it gives you. Then you can go home without feeling like your life sucks because you provided for yourself.

    Abundance can look like work! I always look at it like someone just gave you a bunch of fresh vegetables for free. But you have to clean them and store them and figure out what to do with them, ya know? You can also be stressed and happy. Happy doesn’t mean zero stress and stress doesn’t mean zero happiness.
    I love silence. I work with children everyday and I cherish my alone time. I’ve communicated to my partner about it and he’s totally cool with my need to take space. It’s beneficial for both of us.
    Take care and best wishes on your hard work! 🙌🏼

I've been feeling so anxious for the past couple of years and honestly I've been avoiding silence like the plague, but lately I've felt this push to start embracing it again. I definitely need to work on this in my own life, but I just started my first year of teaching and I’ve implemented “quiet time” for my first graders! After they come in from lunch, we have 10-15 minutes (right now our record is 2 minutes, but we’ll get there😂) in silence. They can draw, read, etc. but it has to be totally silent. It’s so important!

    Being in silence can be helpful for meditation practice or different types of mental health care and if you really listen there is silence everywhere. I’m always in a crowded house and my boyfriend is a musician so I’m around noise all the time. There’s silence though if you know where to look. Like at the end of a person’s sentence. Eckheart Tolle has a talk about this. It’s just about where you put your attention. Also, silence of the mind can bring great peace even if there is no silence around you. Just some tips for anyone wanting silence but cannot find much time for actual environmental silence like me.

    • @TheJankmaster
      @TheJankmaster 5 лет назад

      Jayden C Parker Could be that, or it could be that she needs a vacation from her own house to be by herself?
      I hope it's just that she is doing so well, that money isn't a thing.

    • @jaydencparker4968
      @jaydencparker4968 5 лет назад

      @@TheJankmaster Do you think you want it to be that?
      It's probably *because* she works from home. As someone who works from home myself, I know personally it can be a challenge to balance work mode with rest mode (not to mention chores). It all bleeds together and is a weird juggle dance that can pull one in many directions. So I guess that's why I totally get her get away trip especially to focus on big projects w/o distractions. It's like a "workation"
      She's definitely doing well enough that a week long cabin stay is unlikely to be a financial burden. She mentioned a ballpark figure another recent video (I think the assumptions vid, very comfortable figure for most). Her explanation for the trip in the video is pretty straight forward and honest.

    • @TheJankmaster
      @TheJankmaster 5 лет назад

      Jayden C Parker Jayden, I have no skin in that game; no reason to want it to be one way or the other. Just offering another pov, as I know that as someone who has a good job and recently purchased a home...my budget couldn't justify a week away for that purpose.
      If she can, then that's great. I just value what she offers us and wanted to provide something for her to ruminate on. It could be that she subconscionsly (sp?) is having the same thought...and it's coming out in her having to "head off" the question.
      She did ask for discussion, but I guess that's enough. ;)
