also to note, this is the final dreamworks film that’s animated in-house. dreamworks isn’t going anywhere but their movies are going to be outsourced by other animation studios overseas from now on. universal hasn’t been utilizing dreamworks as well as illumination. so please, it would mean the world to the animators and artists that worked on the film if it became a moderate success at least. show these studios that we don’t need to rely on huge IPs to make successful movies, especially in animation.

@@paulw858there isn’t anything tragic in the movie, which was my worry too. The tears come from extreme emotional beats that you could relate to, like having to let go of a child after they grow up and need to find their own way in the world. Also there are themes of community, love, strife, being an underdog but sticking it through, and choosing to be a better person for the sake of family. It’s an incredibly mature story at the same level as Charlotte’s Web and Babe.

As an someone who worked on the cameras in this film, this is so incredible to hear from you!! Thank you so much for your kind words and even if you hated the film, I still would’ve loved this video! And just some bts for the cinematography in this film: Spielberg was definitely one of our inspirations camera-wise, with the shot of Roz falling down the cliff has her headlights shine through the forrest being coined by Sanders as the “Spielberg shot” during our feedback sessions for that sequence! And Nolan too as many of our flying sequences were directly inspired by Dunkirk! Anyways, loved your review and so inspiring to see you directing your own films!!

There wasn't enough advertising, most people I know hadn't heard of it including myself until I came across it on Reddit by accident and the theater is so expensive now that not as many people go to movies anymore except for big name brands they know like Transformers. I saw this movie earlier in the year at an audience preview, when it wasnt even finished (parts were in storyboard, previs and some voiceovers werent the real actors yet). But, I thought it was amazing…funny, touching. Great for adults and kids. My only issue with it, which I noted in my survey, was that I didnt feel it was clear enough why the company tried so hard to get this one robot back. They sent in that flying vehicle with other robots to try and get her back. It seemed like alot to go through for one robot when u manufacture tons.

Saw this movie last night with my son and wife. Really heart warming movie that was enjoyed by all of us. The art style, story and the characters were all done very well. I hope everyone will take their family/friends to see this movie because I want to see these movies do well and would really like to see a sequel in the future.

I just got out of a show for this film. Man was this film a breathtaking animation masterpiece! Spectacular animation, a beautiful story, beautiful musical score, and a message that can resonate with everyone. When I first bought tickets to this film I purchased tickets for $28 at my Cinemark XD theater, and was hesitant to spend that much on a film. However, if my $28 goes towards supporting fantastic storytelling like this, then it is a $28 well fucking spent.

Chris Stuckman, thank you! Because of your commentary, I asked my wife whether she'd be interested in seeing The Wild Robot. Despite her care for fuzzy and feathered critters, her nearly allergic reaction to anything with a hint of science fiction got in the way. So, I told her I'd check it out in person at a Cinemark theater (in Delaware, no less, where the Tuesday admission, bridge toll, and gas all totalled less than the price of a ticket at the Regal or AMC movie house in my current state of residence).
Of course, upon my return, invitation turned to insistence, and she fell in love with Roz, too.
True confession: having been assigned to read R.U.R. nearly 50 years ago in college, I started to question your concept of a child-appropriate film upon seeing the title character was a "Rozzum" robot. No spoilers here, but I'm glad my misgivings were baseless.

This was honestly probably the best children’s movie this year and possibly the past couple years. The only reason me and my daughter went to see it, is because my daughter’s class was reading the book. She told me that so I said okay we’re gonna go see it. I loved it, so adorable and a really good plot behind it.

This style reminds me of the trailer for the movie Flow about a black cat in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world, that trailer also had a super stylized animation, it was just a treat for the eyes , it's heartening to see that studios are finally trying something different than the hyper realistic CGI animation of Disney/Pixar, please guys let's support these innovative animation movies so studios keep putting them out.

This is one of the better animated movies I've seen. There is no programming or instructions as a parent. Your task firsthand is building your child to succeed on their own. Formed from a bond at first sight, then made stronger through adversity. This movie is all about a mother's love that sons, daughters, and fathers can all see and embrace.

I’m so glad to hear this. The trailer felt so desperate by giving away sooo much of the movie (like “look! It’s heartfelt! It’s like Wall-E meets Bambi meets Baymax! The goose grows up! Bad robots come later!!”) that it really turned me off. But knowing that it’s original, that the pedigree behind it possesses world class masterful storytelling through animation, and that it’s not totally derivative compels me to watch it!

An employee took me out on my birthday to the movies, now a tradition between us. We saw "The Substance", mid-afternoon. That movie just bothered me, I couldn't shake it. During dinner, I asked her "Can we go back to the theater and see 'Wild Robot' so I can clear my brain?" (I'd already seen it).
She laughed and cried all the way through...I was thrilled.
I think it could get consideration for Oscar for best picture. All of my friends, with kids and without, loved it.

Chris, I fear this movie won't do well either. At first I thought it'd be due to Transformers: One, then you mentioned the thing with Beetlejuice. So now I'm worried it's cause this movie's an animated flick with a fairly original premise. Here's hoping people surprise the both of us and this breaks the box office.

This review has definitely encouraged me to watch The Wild Robot. Even though I already have a desire to watch it. Plus this movie kinda gives me Iron Giant vibes.
PS, the thing that Chris said in the end goes back to what I and another RUclipsr said about how people claim Hollywood doesn’t make original films anymore when they still do and people don’t go out and support them. Yet, when it comes to sequels and remakes they often make more money in the box office than their predecessors
