Point taken on labeling the film 'original' - it was a book I wasn't familiar with and I was more wrapped up in it not being a sequel or part of an existing movie franchise. But I understand the feedback on calling it original. Days without saying something to set off the comments: 0 (down from 1).
@@lawnjart16 I'd prefer not having one word or one thing I get wrong (or even that someone THINKS I got wrong) immediately be among the top comments. It's discouraging and it happens a lot. I personally give a little leeway to a book adaptation if it’s not already some renowned franchise. It’s “original” in as much as it’s a new story in today’s movie landscape.
DreamWorks is like that kid you know is smart enough to get an A on the exam, but sometimes they slack off and get a C-. When they do get those high marks though they make some amazing films. Glad to see this one is getting high praise. Plan to see it this weekend.
How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek, The Prince of Egypt-Dreamworks has a track record of mastering book to film adaptations. I'm sure this movie will be something special.
Captain Underpants and The Bad Guys are also great, fun and visually engaging animated films as well. They got those book adaptations on lock. Wish they were as consistent as these films could be, going from Boss Baby 2 to The Last Wish to Ruby Gilman to this is crazy quality whiplash.
Saw it last night! The Wild Robot film was on my radar for a while, so I made sure to watch it in theaters opening weekend. I had high expectations and it met/surpassed. Such a beautiful movie. You’ll laugh, cry, and smile throughout. Must watch on the big screen.
I got home a few hours ago from seeing THE WILD ROBOT in 3D. Don't discount the 3D version: The 3D is tastefully done and quite beautiful. Otherwise, this is an extraordinary film, even if you see it in 2D. Don't miss it. See it on the largest screen you can find. This is one of the best films of the year. And, it's not just for children. With its terrific screenplay, inspired direction, wonderful voice performances and gorgeous animation, adults may enjoy it even more than the tykes in the audience. THANK YOU Dan for this terrific review.
The fact that Chris Sanders wrote and directed this movie excites me the most. He has been in the animation industry for decades and it truly upsets me how a lot of people still don't know his name. From Lilo & Stitch to How To Train Your Dragon to The Croods and now this movie, Sanders is easily one of the greatest artists working in the animation industry. I really hope this could be a bigger hit for him. He's such a gem in animation industry, i adore him so much
Took my kids to watch Transformers One last week. One of my kid saw The wild Robot poster and he really wants to see it. I guess Dan just got him his wish.
Just watched it tonight. Such a brilliant film. I was the same in that I just thought my kids would enjoy it and I'd get a rest. I was wrong! Cried most of the film. It's a beautiful piece of art.
Could not agree with you more Dan! This movie evoked the purity of the human experience and human emotion out of me. I laughed, I cried in triumph, I wept tears of sadness and loss, and I think a piece of art that can pull that out of you is worth championing and ABSOLUTELY worth seeing on the big screen!!! Great review Dan🙌🏻
I found myself reduced to a quivering mass of emotion as I watched The Wild Robot with my nine year old son, at the weekend. Somehow, this magical animation, unlocks the innocence of childhood emotions and juxtaposes it with the duality of parenthood. It’s a cinematic masterpiece, and one I don’t think I could watch again without the privacy to ugly cry and wish my father was here to comfort me. I re-watched the trailer this evening and ended up dissolving over the dishes, as the quivering lip appeared once again. Truly, a 10/10 masterpiece, a modern day E.T. for little kids and big kids alike. This film touched my soul. Magnificent! ⭐️ 🤖 🥚💛 #thewildrobot
This movie was remarkable. I went into with no expectations as well, I hadn't seen any reviews or even watched the trailer and I came out feeling like it deserves to win best picture this year. It really is that good.
You've done it again, Dan! It's really wonderful to have a reviewer whose tastes are so aligned to my own, who understands what I WANT from a movie. Had to come back and leave a comment here b/c this one turned out to be the *perfect* movie to take my Mom to see on her birthday. We loved it, and I wouldn't have noticed it without this channel. I just watched this on streaming and i just convinced my whole family to go see it in theaters!! I NEED to experience it on the big screen. This movie shot to the top of my favorites as a lover of animation. I am voting with my dollar and its worth every penny. I was not expecting much when I watched so I was blown away.
This movie has such a heart. I was glad I watched it when it rolled out in my country last week. I was very touched as I had lost my mum ten years ago and the parenting scenes brought back a lot of good memories.
The writer of the original book obviously did his research - the name "Roz" appears to be taken from "Rossum's Universal Robots" a 1920s stage play written by Czech writer Carel Kapek, which saw the first ever use of the word "Robot" which is taken from the Czech language. I also learned today that Giancarlo pronounces his last name in a non-Spanish sounding way. I was umumming and ahhing over whether or not to see this film but your review has won me over!
Just got out of seeing this film, released in uk this week, and I think I didn’t stop crying in the last 30/40 minutes. I thought inside out 2 had the best animated movie Oscar locked in but now I’m not so sure. The film is gorgeous, well acted and hit all the feels.
What is saving this little gem of a movie is the word of mouth that people are passing along. I don't know of anyone who didn't like this film. I'm late to comment but it recently became available for digital download so I immediately bought it. Benefit of that is I get to cry in the privacy of my own home.
This is been high on my list since I saw the first trailer. I’m so glad to see it’s getting great reviews and I hope it gets the box office support to go with it!
I would have bet $10000 that the fox was voiced by Ben Schwartz...and I would have challenged someone to a duel if they had tried to argue that it was Pedro Pascal instead
It's crazy how far good voice acting adds to the immersion. The Sonic 3 trailer takes me out everytime I just blatantly hear Keanu Reeves using his standard voice for Shadow.
Well said, sir. So many critics complain about franchise milking but then overlook/trash some big risky swings. Glad to see them paying attention to this one because it is definitely something special.
Just came back from watching this with my family of 3 gen (they almost never go to the cinema but somehow I was able to convince them)... The concencus is, almost all of them cried. Georgous film. Instant Classic. Bring the whole family kind. Thankfully no annoying theme song, but instead a georgeous music direction that pulls your heart strings from all angles❤❤❤ i wanna watch it alone again to fully cry my heart out.
It's not coming out here in Ireland for another 3 weeks but it'll be the first animated movie I've seen on the big screen since last summer. And I work in animation!
We're planning to see it on Tuesday but we're going to see it Wednesday in Dolby Cinema and I love animation and anime and when I saw the first trailer of the wild robot I was amazed of the design and the characters and the background song got me emotional and I was already on board to see it.
I saw the movie today... after seeing Megalopolis yesterday... and am I ever glad I did because this was absolutely fantastic. It is my favorite movie of the year.
My son read the books and was super hyped about the movie. So we took our kids, and 4 extended family today. All thoroughly enjoyed it! I can't think of anything I didn't like
It finally released in UK last week and I'm so glad I saw it in a theatre. Its beautiful visually and emotionally - easily one of my favourite movies of the year
Dan, thank you for taking the time to advocate for seeing original ideas and to support it. I’m seeing it Sunday and I preordered so hopefully it shows up on the box office numbers. I’ve been looking forward to it since seeing the teaser and I’m so glad it’s being well received. I really hope word of mouth gets it the recognition it deserves
I took my 5 year old son to see it tonight, blew away my expectations and as a parent, this movie had me holding back tears on multiple occasions. Beautiful and surprisingly heartfelt for a movie about a robot. 10/10 highly recommend
Glad to know it's great! I literally cry every time the trailer is played at my local theatre, it is so moving and it looks so so so beautiful. I was hyped already, but I am all the more excited now!
I didn't know much about the story but my kids, who had read the book, insisted on going to see it. We saw it in 4D and I was blown away at the animation and story! The 4D experience was interactive and fun too! Kids were shouting with excitement, parents were holding back tears, and everyone was rooting for Roz and her family.
Could not agree more with this thoughtful review/plea to support original filmmaking. Saw this with my two sons and daughter and we were all moved, entertained and inspired by this gem of a movie.
On that note I'll also point out that there are four chances for people to put their money where there mouth is. This movie, Dog Man, Elio, and Hopper if people really want more orignal movies they better show up to each of these animated movies and with reasonable expectiations. The first two have book related material yes but as far as movies go their orignal, so the time to actually vote with your wallet is right now. Even if this is only a Dreamworks movie, if Disney and Pixar see it succeed it's going to spark competitivness guaranteed.
Waiting for the UK release in a couple of weeks but will definitely be there with son on release day. Hope enough people see it to demonstrate to the studios that if they make great films the audience will turn up
I'm over the moon for this film. Glad you mentioned the art style, that's what hooked me to read the book, it was that first trailer and how the art-style was featured. I admired that the author also drew images too. So happy to learn you liked it. I'll see it this weekend.
We watched The Wild Robot yesterday. My sister, who's chronically online, was shocked that a movie this good never made it to her socmed timeline. It's a bit under-marketed for how good it is and I'm glad I was tapped into ppl like you and others who praised the film. Anyway, it's a highlight of my movie-watching year and I hope studios support more animated films of this caliber.
Would highly recommend Look Back. I would choose it as the animated film of the year and The Wild Tobot is a close second. Look Back is very much a story for adults. Many tears were shed
My son’s second grade class read the book in class and they are going to see the movie tomorrow. I appreciate Dan giving light to a movie that isn’t a mainstream adult movie. There aren’t a lot of quality animated movies that have deeper meaning behind them. Our younger generation needs more content that can be thought off in deep context and not just surface level ADD fuel. People like Dan will make that happen. Keep up the good work!
Was on the fence seeing this in theaters, but after this review, we put it on the list and ended up seeing it on a premium screen. So worth the time and money to see on a very big screen (XD) which itself was surprising considering it is the 4th weekend it's been out. Definaly worth seeing in XD/IMAX Laser/Dolby if it's showing on one of those screens in your area, but any big screen will do more justice than all but the largest UHD panel in your home.
Just watched this film yesterday and oh boy Dreamworks did lock in. The art style like said in the video was amazing, the touching story, theres so much Dreamworks did almost to perfection. Even the orchestral music was on point and got me immersed into the film! I agree this is a must see.
Seen it three times already (early release in Australia), and I’ll be seeing it at least once more. I didn’t think anything would beat Inside Out 2 on my rankings this year, but The Wild Robot managed it. Just a beautiful, timeless work of art that everyone should see.
Thank you for reviewing this film and giving it attention. A lot of film reviewers and influencers are talking about Megalopolis and I fear that The Wild Robot will get lost in the shuffle.
Great to see Dan really enthusiastic about a movie! It doesn't come out here in Ireland until October 18th. I've put it in my calendar and am looking forward to bringing my son to see it.
Was going to wait for the streaming release, but you’ve convinced me! I love animation, but could list many films I wish I had supported in theaters. You’re the best, Dan!
I saw this movie tonight, and so enjoyed it! I was so emotional in some parts, its such a lovely film! I was one of the people that saw Iron Giant with family back in the day, and have never forgotten how wonderful that was. It was the motivator to get me, an adult, to go and see this one. I agree with your review 😊
I saw this in Dolby Cinema today at my AMC and my god, seeing this and Transformers One back to back, I was emotionally drained. So good, I couldn’t stop crying during that second act
This movie is in the top 3 theatre experiences I’ve ever had or witnessed…I will be going back to watch this again. It’s crucial to go see and give your attention towards
Hey, thanks for the review Dan and for the appeal to watch movies without big existing IP! Your title also helped the movie stand out - I'll have to wait a bit in my country but looking forward to seeing it!
Inside Out was great but Wild Robot needs to win the Oscar. This film is 2024's best animated film. The film was a masterpiece. My allergies were acting up for a third of the movie 😭😭😭💓 Inside Out should be recognized for having a very researched and technical script.
I saw the trailer for this movie in the theater a while back and it got me crying. I'm glad to hear the whole movie is good and I will definitely be checking out.
Just saw this based on your strong recommendation, Dan, and I loved it. It was also slightly jarring but very funny to see the "circle of life" presented so matter of factly by the characters.
This movie was absolutely fantastic. 10/10, gorgeous, emotionally gripping, with amazing characters, tension, and music. Brought me to tears and I’m so glad I got to share this moment with my 10yo son
I’m much more interested in seeing this now more than I would have based on your request and that of Cinema Therapy’s video on it. It wasn’t even a blip on my radar before I saw them.
I did not know it was Pedro Pascal either, I was pleasantly surprised! The only voice I recognized was that of regular human bartender, Jackie Daytona.
I'm a big fan of my local theater's $5 Mondays but I'm planning to see this on Saturday night in the premium theater. I want this movie to do well so studios will make more movies like it.

This might be the first time (or at least the first time I know of) where you KNOW what Dan thought from the video title.
Hey, thanks for the review Dan and for the appeal to watch movies without big existing IP! Your title also helped the movie stand out - I'll have to wait a bit in my country but looking forward to seeing it!
This and Robot Dreams were amazing. I’ll also include Memoir of a Snail as another animated highlight this year.
I like how you added the "esposito" part. Well played.
Inside Out was great but Wild Robot needs to win the Oscar. This film is 2024's best animated film. The film was a masterpiece. My allergies were acting up for a third of the movie 😭😭😭💓
Inside Out should be recognized for having a very researched and technical script.
Just finished watching it and wow I really hope that people support this film. It’s so refreshing to see a new project
This movie was absolutely fantastic. 10/10, gorgeous, emotionally gripping, with amazing characters, tension, and music. Brought me to tears and I’m so glad I got to share this moment with my 10yo son
I want to thank you. I had no idea this movie was coming out. I saw the title of the video and bought a ticket impulsively. I had a wonderful moment.
as someone in animation, thank you so much for championing original animation!!
So glad I saw this movie and I would gladly see it again! It is just that beautiful, heartrending and inspiring!❤
Grandson has early release today. Gonna go see this 🎬
This Film looked AMAZING in IMAX. Went with 5 other family members and we ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
I feel like the oscars need to do a "best voice actor" award
this movie needs to be seen by everybody!
Every reviewer I’ve watched have all said it was amazing ! Looking forward to seeing it Sunday!
I want to see a double-feature of wild robot & Flow.
I’m much more interested in seeing this now more than I would have based on your request and that of Cinema Therapy’s video on it. It wasn’t even a blip on my radar before I saw them.
I don’t know when it will be screening near you, but I think Dan you would really love the 2024 animated film Flow.
It reminds me of the Overwatch animated short about Bastion. Basically the same premise, but told without any bit of dialogue.
I did not know it was Pedro Pascal either, I was pleasantly surprised! The only voice I recognized was that of regular human bartender, Jackie Daytona.
Jackie Daytona ❤❤
I'm going Tuesday. Because of the hurricane I'm working doubles all weekend. But hopefully I get to go
I'm a big fan of my local theater's $5 Mondays but I'm planning to see this on Saturday night in the premium theater. I want this movie to do well so studios will make more movies like it.
Getting a hard rec from Dan is rare. Definitely going to try and go out and see it
