Top-notch content! For a total beginner, I would probably recommend they get a multi-effects processor. The ones being made these days are very affordable and even simulate the structure of a pedalboard with individual stompboxes. I think that's a great way to introduce a beginner to the world of effects and the art of tone-tweaking; it definitely was in my case using my old Zoom G1x some 15 years ago!

Wow! For less money you've got many choices of excellent multi-effects pedal boards. I started with individual pedals and progressed through many multi-effects boards. Some manufacturers even give software and effects updates for the board

I like the fact that you recommend that people buy quality petals that are an expensive as opposed to buying junk. Also, the fact that you want to be noise free is a definite plus. I play guitar at my church and they will definitely hear noise. Thanks for your videos, I just subscribed today!

    Thank you man.
    Currently building my own pedalboard:
RAT -> Od (Klon / TS ) -> Joyo Aquarius -> Mini reverb (Skysurfer/skyeverb/dig reverb) -> Joyo American
If it still can fit i’m gonna add a tuner or compressor in front of RAT.

I have had good luck with finding a $99 solution for every spot on my board. TC, EHX, DOD, Mooer all offer reasonable prices for quality pedals.

Nice video. Honestly, I'd suggest an HX stomp or the Katana amp if you're not sure what you want. Both can give you an idea of what you'd want to buy in a pedal and save you money in the long run. The other thing I'd suggest is a lot of overdrive pedals have a fuzz component w/ the gain all the way up and a lot of fuzz pedals resemble overdrives when turned down. If I had to have just 1 pedal I think I could get by w/ a Keeley Phat Mod and just crank the drive if I want fuzz like tones. Or, I'm a big fan of the Velvet Fuzz. I'd crank that down for overdrive (which I actually do a lot now).
The last thing I'd say, and you pretty much stated, pedals aren't a big deal. They are like spices. They can add flavor but the meal is the meal. I wasted a bunch of money buying pedals to sound like X when in reality there are million reasons I'll never sound like that and someone would have a hard time sounding like me. Just know that pedals rarely just stop with one lol

The HX stomp is a good suggestion for sure. And I've been really loving fuzz lately, though they tend to lack some of the mid-range a good OD will give you.

Very complex and expensive for a new player. Forget all this and the Donner pedals, pedalboard etc just get a NUX Cerberus it's got everything a new player needs. You will just need a power supply. I've been playing for over 25yrs now and have some quality pedals but I still have one. Fantastic units :). Stick the joyo "sound" pedal of your choice in the loop and you have a direct + headphone option as well.

Honestly in such a small pedalboard for modulation and delay reverb I would have the zoom ms-70cdr a shoot. I had it for a long time and it killes on the board even though still very cheap today. Maybe it would have some live stage controlling issues but there are after market controllers for the pedal to try. Recently I switched over the TC Plethora for the room stuff but I'm still keeping the Zoom for a travel size backpack pedalboard project. I also think its the best pedal for beginners who has to learn for that stuff. Not so hard to control and its interface is based on effects chains so I did recommended this pedal to beginners on pedalboard.

Instead of the cheap pedal board I would just get an HX Stomp. Could add specialized effects from there!

That's a decent choice for sure.

Wouldn't recommend a complex multi fx for a beginner, to many menus/sub menus. Lack of understanding what each effect is capable of etc. I agree with this video 100 percent

Hilarious: Hats off to all the great guitarists that used nothing but a proven guitar, amp and
simple cable, Nothing else !!!! No black magic in a can. Just ability and talent.

I wasn’t a huge fan of distortion pedals. I had a Swollen Pickle for heavier stuff, which is kinda like a big muff but better. But then I did some recording with my band a few weeks ago, listened to the mix and found that the Pickle wasn’t getting it done. The Boss DS-1 did the trick.

    • @andrewclarkeguitar

I've never been the biggest fan of the big muff sound. Yeah, the good old Boss DS-1 is killer!

@@andrewclarkeguitar I think of the big muff sound as…not quite fuzz distortion but kinda leaning there. I think Gilmour uses one on some of his stuff. But it’s not for me. I really only use distortion for heavier tunes so I need something a bit tighter.

That MXR Chorus pedal is too hard to control. Try the TC Electronic Afterglow to save even more money. It’s a simpler pedal than the MXR and I think it sounds better.

Thanks for the video. Serious work I would say.
    Have a question
If the first pedal in my chain is Cali76 compressor which is buffer pedal, should I put another buffer before or Cali is good enough at the beginning of the chain?
    Thanks

HX Stomp. I cannot condone the obsession with tiny individual overpriced boxes. Better yet, interface and plugins.

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  2 года назад

HX Stomp is a great option. Interface & plugins can be good for home, but slightly less convenient when playing live in my opinion.
