Country fans knew Chris Stapleton before the awards show with Justin Timberlake. The reason Justin was on the show was because Chris Stapleton was nominated for so many awards. He had already won Grammy for best album.

I think a lot of us were exposed to him as a "Newbie" musical guest on Saturday Night Live almost 5 years ago. He played "Parachute" and "Nobody To Blame".
He walked out with a hat, boots and a duster... Blew everyone away, and by morning, his old RUclips videos blew up beyond belief... After years of paying his dues, Chris was one of the slowest "Overnight-successes" ever. ;-)

This is my favorite Chris Stapleton song. It is more low key locally than other songs but the mood and the setting is perfect. You actually feel like you're on death row and I'm a normal woman and I've never been on death row but I knew exactly how that man was feeling. Chris has that ability with all his songs to make you feel everything❤❤❤❤❤❤

He just did a guest appearance at one of John Mayer’s shows. John asks him “you want to sing one mine or your songs?” Chris responds, “Why don’t we just write a song.“ So they wrote a new song the night before and performed it in front of a sold out crowd. It’s actually a good song too. I think it’s called “I just remembered I don’t Care Anymore”

Even the music tells the story along with Chris's amazing story telling. It's like a clock ticking down the days or walking that last mile to the death chamber. You can visually see the story he's telling. Chris is just awesome!!

  • @mwallace2337
    @mwallace2337 5 лет назад +14

Part of his great gift is his sensitivity. It's there in his lyrics just as much as in his music. Just like Death Row captures living with no future, Can You Run (when he was with The Steeldrivers) captures the atrocity of slavery and Scarecrow In the Garden captures the despair of poverty. He's brilliant on every front. His concerts are an out-of-body experience.

Chris's only video is 'Fire Away' I believe. He only did that one because of the message behind it. Most of his stuff is studio or live. His live stuff is always better. He is a raw music artist. Everyone forgets that singing with JT at the CMA's wasn't his breakout. He was at the CMA's winning artist awards. He has written over a thousand songs over the years for very famous people. His wife (also a singer) encouraged him to get out there and make his own songs.

I enjoy Chris. He's real not gimmicky. First Chris Stapleton is from a small town in Kentucky. His family predominantly were coal miners.
He's smart was ranked high in HS & went to college intending to be an engineer. He didn't finish instead choosing to be in music.
His voice has matured over the years with one of his influences being Ottis Redding.
He's a musician and been in a few bands since his teens. Mostly Southern Rock & Bluegrass. That is him playing the solo and all through the song.
He's also performed besides top artists in Country, R&B and Pop too (name a few, Justin Timberlake, Pink, Bruno Mars & Edward Sheeran).
Watch his acoustic guitar with his wife on NPR to see the talent.
He also is a songwriter ('Tennessee Whiskey') is not his first song. Amazingly he's written for several top Country singers. He has no problem whatsoever whomever covers his music. Exactly like Whitney Houston covering Dolly Parton's song she made $$$ & got more exposure more wanted to sing it.
The woman accompanying him on 'Tennessee Whiskey' & other songs is his wife Morgane. She is a professional singer in her own right.
Together they created 5 children and reside in Nashville. These last years he has hit a stride as a singer/songwriter. He's not an overnight success but seems to have popped up. Hard work brought him the recognition, brains writing & playing keeping it real brought attention.
Everyone has opinions/comments, to each his own. Agree to disagree.
As for this song; songs can have face value or meanings can be applied. Could be a few songs collectively have an undertone same evil.
Death row - Could be a death row prisoner awaiting execution. Or, an addict/reckless life choices unwilling/incapable of stopping waiting for his life to end from the path he's on knowing going to crash & burn in just matter of time.
Have a relative been drinking heavily over 35 years. Mentally wrecked, unable to hold a job and lost himself in the bottle vegging all day with no purpose. Sounds a lot like the song.
    Facts:
    - Banjos were slave instruments, created with what was on hand. It became rebellious act of disdain from being forced to play many stopped & refused to learn the instrument. Banjos are one of the staples of the country music sound.
    - Like tap, country music AND blues were derived from European folk & slave/gospel music. Harmonies heard are both from church & simple music.
    - Country music isn't only in the backwoods or Grand Ole Opry, it's nationwide.
I listened growing up as well as blues, classical, oldies & soul (even polkas). Everyone who listens to country doesn't necessarily mean won't listen to rap, rock or any other music.
    - Piracy of songs & stylistic renderings occurred throughout the 20s-60s of "Colored" music especially the blues genre. Many musicians/songwriters lost recognition, fame & royalties being scammed out of their rights/money.
Racism was valid excuse white mass audiences would be interested in only listening to white artists. Pat Boone is example of a singer that did covers of many colored singers' songs. Tom Jones was another, even Elvis Pressley ('You Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog').
Subtly it still is happening today. A black singer is talented but when a white singer sounds like the black singer who is noticed & thought to be better?

I saw him live from the front of the stage in 2017, best damn concert I’ve ever been to. My wife and I are going again on oct 4th. Spring for the single barrel experience, also is you join his fan club you get access to early ticket sales. Worth every damn penny!

Randy S cool, we will be in the GA Floor area. I could literally touch the stage last time (well not touch, small security gap). We bought the single barrel experience, get to sample some whiskeys at the cox center before the show and check out his collection of awards, and some guitars. Then we get let in early to get our spot on the floor. If you get another opportunity to see him I’d highly suggest it, worth every penny.

Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, BB King, Ray Charles, Sam Cook, you can hear them all in him. The CMA awards show was in 2015. This song pre-dates that. He's got so many masterpieces in his catalog. Sooooo much left for you guys to discover...

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn in Seattle for $7 when he opened for Ray Charles. It was a year prior to his passing. We didn't know who he was, but Stevie was one of a kind. So talented! We went out and bought every record he made! RIP SRV 💖. Love Chris Stapleton and his wife Morgane!

Bluegrass fans have known him for years. He was in a band called The Steeldrivers. Check out Ghosts of Mississippi, If it hadn't been for Love, Good Corn Liquor, Where Rainbows never die.... Oh I could go on and on. His songs are awesome and I miss him in the band. He is a class act for sure!!

Thank you for reacting to Chris Stapleton! He is amazing! I’m going to see him in November! I can’t wait!! While you’re still reacting to country, I would Love to see y’all react to Home Free! They are an a cappella country group that won season 4 of The Sing Off! It’s kinda hard to tell ya where to start! I’m going to suggest Country Fried Pop Medley. Trust me when I say that the flood gates will open and Home Fries will pour in! 😁

Okay, the low down. Chris has been active and wrote many hits for many of today's country stars. He was urged by them, and Morgan his wife to start recording and playing live. So he did. His first hit for himself funny enough wasn't even his. Tennessee Whiskey was an old Hank Williams hit. But yes his CMA performance is what helped launch him to more national prominence!!
I think you two would enjoy the song Broken Halos!!! 😉

    • @kimberlygrimm7007
      @kimberlygrimm7007 5 лет назад +1

Actually his first hit was "Tennessee Whiskey" which is true! But, that song was written by David Allen Coe!
And was also recorded by George Jones which was a cover!!
Hank Williams never sang it as a cover or otherwise!!

This song creates atmosphere. I just saw him live a few weeks ago and you will definately kick yourselves if you don't go see him. You could just start reacting to his whole library, lol. Also could you check out Marc Broussard? He's from Louisiana and he's got a fine bayou soul voice. His video Home is a good place to start as he was only 16 or 17 when he did it.
