I too am 50 and making that career change from Corporate Exec to Handyman. I came from the digital print industry early days where the techs weren't even skilled so a lot of repairs on my own. Also renovated every house my wife and I have lived in for the last 25 years. I finally realized I would rather be renovating or fixing something rather than managing people and growing corporate America. Much more rewarding, stress levels are way down and I get to spend more time with the family. I will will be starting a channel soon as well. Good luck! Looking forward to the next video.
Hi Mike, Great to hear from you! It seems we have lots in common and I agree, this life is much more rewarding and WAY less stressful. Keep in contact. Cheers, Scott
Thanks for sharing your career change success story. It's uplifting to hear how you transitioned from a stressful corporate role to doing what you really enjoy. Your video has given me more encouragement to make the leap from working in IT. Thanks
Informative and motivational video, thank you! Can you tell me what educational course you did to prepare for your new handyman career. I'm in Australia also.
I learned to swear helping Dad with jobs around the house. I don't think it's the right thing for me. But best of luck. I'm going to start a blog on mid-life transformation, so I might ask to Skype interview you.
Collector Guy do it iv been doing it sine 1981 and on my own since 2000 you wont regret it just as long as you have the clients and you are reasonably priced youll do fine , i am my own boss i can pick and choose the jobs i will take. Just remember bosses are like diapers full of shit and always on your ass , i said no thank you to all that shit. Good luck !!!!!!!!
I spoke to a banker the othet week who woke up ome day and declared "F**k this and is training to be an electrician". A brave move for both of you. Probably easier to accomplish with your/his finances being very healthy from your previous career. I wanna see somebody go from Handyman to Chief Exec at 50. Impossible surely?
You need to wear a lot of hats as a handyman. You need to know construction, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc. You also need to know the local codes for all that stuff....wow...It would take me forever to gain all that knowledge LOL Plus all the various tools..man....but the freedom is probably great!
Hi Mark, you don't need to go 'full tilt' with the idea, the generation since born in the 90s needs plenty... even changinging lightbulbs is needed... Just t to say, there are many many opporunities for the modern handyman.. : )
How to Handyman cool, but i was working for a builder and needed 1 million dollar on me and a umbrella policy for my vehicle the houses ranged from 3 to 5 million dollars so i needed a good insurance policy
@@jonalarcon8564 Hey Jon, I hear you. We need Workcover Insurance (in case we get injured), Public Liability Insurance ($20,000,000) in case we damage anything. Then the cars and the tools need insuring. Then there is income protection insurance (in case I get injured). The list goes on! (Don't start me on all the taxes GST, BAS, PAYG etc etc)
How to Handyman what country do you live in Australia? Here in the state its a lil different but believe me its a pain in the ass, but its worth it. I love meeting new people and helping them with their different types of work
Hi, thanks for the follow up. Actually it's been going well. Obviously there have been some challenges but the company has grown, I've now 3 full time staff plus myself and a couple of other contractors that we use on an as needs basis. I probably earn more money, have more freedom and have a better quality of life than I ever did in the corporate world! Cheers, Scott
