Incredible talent - Great Band - loved Jan Akkerman, a true technical virtuoso. For me 'Sylvia' an all time Classic. They ust do not make music like this any more. A great era without a doubt.
Fantastikkkkk Ok 😮😮
I agree this was great stuff.
You couldn't be more right!
OMG! Drummer Colin Allen was already the oldest in the band at this point and celebrated his 85th birthday in 2023!
I love how every player gets to steer Hocus Pocus in a completely different direction during each solo
Jan's plectrum technique is unbelievable. A real maestro!
3:08 Thijs van Leer should have a Nobel Prize for his singing here. Amazing!
Still performing. Come and see him in the Netherlands

For the lyrics too, such a poetry ❤
agree. too bad nobel prizes are for politics warrriors
Jan Akkerman played the most uninhibited guitar I have ever heard. Focus was a great group. They reminded me of the Dutch football team of those years, hugely talented -probably the greatest that Europe has ever produced but never quite realised their potential. Thanks for posting
TheRunereaper I was there 😔
Thijs Van Leer was definitely channeling something "out worldly" when he sang ! His eyes roll back into his head and he acts possessed! Simply amazing, the great Jan Akkerman, these guys were in a league all their own 👍☮️
Focus were Masters of their music, different, unique, and had high skill in their ability. When I first heard of them back in the early 70's I thought, Oh my Lord, WTF is that amazing stuff? I must buy it!
Saw Focus in Sydney in the 70s - made me change from bass to guitar - JA sat on the edge of the stage with just a guitar - and played - wow...
In Australia Hocus Pocus was the A side & Sylvia was the A side in the UK. I didn't know that till I moved to Australia & nobody knew Sylvia but everybody knew Hocus Pocus. Strange huh?
Never gets old.
And still sounds amazing in 2020...
... in 2021 ... 2022 ... 2023 too
perfect comment. thanks buddy
Jans a genius 🎶
Super cool Jan suddenly strolls up to the amp and cranks it up where it needs to be and bang !!!
00:40
I love the little guitar runs different to the single.
Absolut genial.
Everytime I click another video they played faster and faster, just crazy.
The increased tempos😅👍 ..they are having a lot of fun and enjoying themselves...( even with Jan's very rare fluff note at the end..😁☺😊👍)
@@BraveNewWhirled I just knew from some comments that they speed up to play the whole song within short time slot on TV, refusing to cut it short.. crazy.
@@farazdasril Fantastic band, Great musicians, they would have had an even greater success but lacking the ability to speak English may have hindered there wider popularity.
They only had a short time so they speeded the tempo up 🎼
i like the rock music of the 70 ferry nice and cool 👍
Saw them at the Rainbow ('72? ) - awesome. Really a massively talented jazz band with two of the best rock singles around then and now as shown here. Bring 'em on!
The concert at the Rainbow was in 5th May, 1973
fantastic π
Awesome drum drum work after 4:28.
Wielcy muzycy, wspaniała Super - Grupa...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thijs is easily more scary than the whole of Slipknot.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉
Awesome band! That organ player must have took some good stuff!
BRO THAT START ITS JUST "Life will change" maybe Persona 5 take that riff
Live was Focus sowieso erg snel hoor. Beetje hun ding :P
❤️❤️❤️
👏👏🎵
Excelente tema combinación con silviá
Back when Thijs could hit those high notes.
Those notes were exceptional though.
This is great i bet they are all smashed out of there faces thats why the timing is all over the place
Still class though
jan!
The Worst....
@@derosser Nope
That strumming the base guitar must be a european thing.
Well, Paul McCartney and Chris Squire both did it. Peter Vink of Dutch band Finch was another pick-player.
thats fast
i remember a faster one, this is good
Great drummer. Ex Stone the Crows?
+Alecs Tarner 1) El primero d Focus (In&Out...) es flojo.
I wa
Super fast version of Sylvia. I rather like the original version
Sylvia on steroids
lolol
Unfortunately, everything is played much too fast. And then Jan also messes up the ending.
he messes because he is always risking and trying different things....most guitarists stay in their confort zone but are boring and predictable . I prefr ere the Akkerman´s the hendixes or the Johny Winter type always triyng to make new unexppected things.....Besides the drummer was really weak Van Der Linden was a monster , Allen a mediocre
sometimes happens..
This is early Sylvia and Focus Pocus in 1970’s. Those tunes are played differently by Jan Akkerman these days. Young Akkerman sounds so vigorous and so passionate that he makes lots of mistones. But it’s nothing to be blamed. Now he plays the guitar quite sophisticated way.
Ouah, 135 bpm !😅
Damn !!
Kiedys to byly kapele rockowe ..... ktore graly od serca !!!!
A dzisiaj .... to pelna komercja i playback !!!!
I am not listening these days piece of shit music !!
Playing too fast. Brilliant 7os band
Colin Allen was a bad fit for this band.
Agreed. Pierre never got enough credit for the quintisential Focus sound.
Agree 100%. They were never as good after van der Linden left. Allen was too much of a rock drummer. Spoiled this rendition.
Couldn't agree more! The group really lost its swing when Linden left.
Colin Allen is an awesome rock drummer. But he's definitely not fit for this band for suah
seems like akkerman had a bad day
NOT ONLY THAT DAY..he was usual to have....a lot of mistakes ...always..the worst that I've heard...
By the mid 70's I'm sure they all had enough of Sylvia and Hocus Pocus and really didn't want to play them, especially Jan. Jan's playing in live recordings from 74-75 is full of mistakes and him not caring
Another example from bands who find it necessary to speed up their songs.....🙄
FOCUS | 50th Anniversary Celebration Live in Warsaw Poland Hybrydy Club 2023 4K (Full) ruclips.net/video/iBErk4usE7c/видео.html&t
Akkerman definitely not at his best.
4:22 - 4:24
My God......moesten ze de trein halen of zo? Wat een (jammerlijk) moordend tempo. Beetje afraffelen-idee zo......
Playing too fast way out of expression
they are danish
No, they are Dutch
british drummer, but all the others as dutch as can be.
what????????????????????
@John Hillis You are a FW!
The guitar playing and drumming is amazing
The singing is a shame
No groove, no feel, no emotion just fast fast fast.
Bullshit
Akkerman the worst Guitarist I'ver heard..a lot of mistakes, ditry sound,...Focus was Van Leer , a true Genius,..everybody else on guitar would be better then Akkerman ...
surely you can't be serious.
Ehiii it's not allowed for you speak to me..this is my opinion..ok? Shit!!
It's not allowed for me to speak to you? I'm afraid to tell you that I am allowed to speak to you in this public online comment section. You are entitled to that opinion. I'm allowed to think you're wrong and challenge you. Finally, are you calling me a shit or simply exclaiming ''Shit!''?
I look forward to your response.
@@simonfeakes it' s and exclaiming of course..be quite..it' s better you begin to have some form of respect toward people's opinion and i think RUclips have to learn that's this is called DEMOCRACY ..ok?
@@derosser Stumbled upon this reaction and cannot disagree more. Akkerman surely had his moments of uninspired performance but his whole body of work is laced with incredible, unsurpassed and versatile mastery of the instrument.
