- First Edition Arts organised and curated their third annual Diwali Concert Series on 4th October 2014. The event was sponsored by Union Bank of India and was held at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
This year's headlining artiste was Pt. Venkatesh Kumar. He performed a wonderful Raag Kaushi Kanada before an absolutely spellbound audience. He was accompanied by Pt. Raghunath Nakod on Tabla and Ajay Joglekar on Harmonium. The concert was held at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.

As a very young boy I saw a similar gesture (putting out the tongue sheepishly) from the Great Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan at a private concert held at Khar-Danda... and a tabla-nawaz uncle of mine decoded it for me after the concert, making the same point about the humility and instant willingness of a very great man to address a slip-up without the slightest hesitaion...of course the Ustad was a master of tal no question but he was also human and humane enough to admit what the proverb says so aptly!

Often Pandit ji's rendering reminds of Pt Bhimsen Joshi's recitals.
In fact, to me, he appears to be the nearest to Joshiji's gayaki.

Beautiful voice and amazing singing from pt
After hearing same compositions from Late Vasantrao Deshpande I enjoyed Pt. VK's rendering. Was very nice performance in taal 'Tilwada' of 16 beats. R. Nakod played this little difficult taal quite well. Ajay was quite good on harmonium even though he was not at his best (I heard him several times before). Overall very enjoyable concert. Thanks for uploading.

Dear First Edition, you asked for my impression so here it is. I know very little about the Raga artform really (i know it's very structured and there are types, and parts, and that the 'same piece' can be done in all sorts of ways...).
But i react so strongly to this man's voice, it's indescribable. The notes he sings go straight into my bones and stay there.
It's like, there has been a terrible loss, and there have been endless hard times, where you didn't even know - but he's saying i am integrated, whole again. I have not lost the pain, on the contrary, that part of me is still aware of the past - and at the same time, you have been transformed, alchemised... Over the course of years, decades, centuries. Limitless compassion, in pure sound.
So yeah, thank you for posting.... 💚💙🌹🙂

@@elineeugenie5224 you are welcome, Some of the ragas can bring real tears of joy ... and raag Shankara is one of them ..I had a dislike for Hindustani music growing up in south India(where Carnatic is more popular) and after listening to this great maestro I adore the music..

This year we have an entire day of performances beginning at 7am with a Dhrupad recital by Uday Bhavalkar. This will be followed by a sitar recital by Sahana Banerjee from Pune at 10am. At 11:30am Vijaya Jadhav Gatlewar will perform. There will be a lunch break followed by Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar at 3pm. Our publicity for the event will commence shortly. This is good but nobody does this Raag better than Rashid Khan. Its lot more meditative and gambheer; more khyaal than geet.
