LXD instance configuration with cloud-init

  • Cloud-init is a great way to customize your cloud instances so that they're usable right after boot. LXD has supported cloud-init configuration right from the start and today this includes support for instance and network configuration of both containers and virtual machines!

    It would be great to document LXD cloud-init section itself. It can set up network and storage but having a few examples, or at least a few more paragraphs of text that show how to set up the storage pool would be amazing.

      Yeah, we've got some cloud-init work lined up as we head towards LXD 5.0.
      The cloud-init team is now treating LXD as a real cloud instead of us having to use the config drive mechanism and as part of that we expect to move to 1st party config keys (something like cloud-init.user-data, cloud-init.vendor-data, ...) and will also rework that entire section in the doc, removing all the stuff around the templates and image setup as that'll be all gone and instead focusing more on how to actually use the thing.
