- Welcome to Day 4 of my solo motorcycle adventure around Tasmania. Today, I am guided by my friend Roman to the Remarkable Cave and we discuss the most feared predators of Tasmania, The Drop Bear!
This is simply a fantastic place to ride motorcycles! The roads are as good as they can get. Stunning scenery, incredible history. Come along with us and explore the Tasman Peninsula.
But first the map; we’ll be riding from Hobart out to Port Arthur, established first in 1830 as a timber station but in 1833 became the infamous penal colony for repeat and serious offenders. It was famous for its unbelievably harsh treatment of its prisoners. And then in 1996 was the site of the mass shooting that precipitated the strict gun laws of Australia.
Can you imagine coming to Tasmania in 1804 or thereafter as a convict looking forward to years of hard labor in unbelievably bad conditions and being told about an environment filled with deadly creatures?
