CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Joel (Tom Cruise) races his dad's Porsche while trying to escape Guido the pimp.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Risky Business is the film in which 19-year-old Tom Cruise dances around his living room in his underwear. He does this to celebrate the fact that his parents have left him alone while they go on vacation. Somewhere along the line, hooker Rebecca De Mornay, fleeing her vicious pimp, hides out in the Cruise manse. Things go from bad to worse to as Cruise inadvertently drives his father's Porsche into Lake Michigan and nearly scuttles his college recruitment interview.

1984: After throwing a big party (while my folks were out of town) a complete stranger in a Thunderbird started to follow my car. I drove as hard as I could to get away but he finally rammed into me spinning me out. He was drunk. He said he had mistaken me (my Cutlass) for somebody else. Car parts littered the intersection. Two cops showed up asked us if we were okay and then left. I found out a few years later that he had been a major drug dealer and went to prison.
the movie that made me love the 928 and one hell of a exhaust note
It's a V8, but it almost sounds like a flat-six. Such a unique sound.
The exhaust and engine sounds were dubbed from another Porsche 928 that had a hole in its rear muffler, therefore created much louder sound that a stock 928. Four 1978 Porsche 928 models were used in the movie (and a 1981 model), including one that was gutted for the lake scene, and another that was painted gold. A collector tried to track down all of the Porsches but only found one of them, which he bought for $49,200 at a 2012 Hollywood memorabilia auction. IMDB.
I have owned several 928s and I can assure you that wat you hear isn't a Porsche 928 exhaust note.

I remember the car chase from Jack Reacher was different
1:40 He came upon that same intersection earlier in this scene when he almost collided with another car, but instead of turning left like he did the first time he turned right, switched off his taillights and disappeared into the darkness. Very clever. This is an awesome car, but it's nothing without a smart driver.

This is the scene that made my teenage self lust after the Porsche 928 for many a year, elevating it to almost mythical status in my mind. That is, until I recently saw a Doug Demuro review of the 928, which revealed it as a really quirky car with quirky features, barely practical, and only middle of the pack performance. But it sure looked cool.
@Kuzuri Kam , I agree Doug is pretty dorky. But just watching his review and objectively interpreting the information that he presented, not from the standpoint of evaluating a "sports car", but just a car, I agree with his assessment.
