How did you fix the gauges? Mine is doing exactly the same. Coolant temp drops to zero at times and then pops back up to normal. And the gas gauge is intermittent and rarely accurate. What's your advice?
@mgconty1283 hmm well in my case the sending unit for the fuel gauge always read empty it was a bad sending unit in the tank and as for the temp gauge it was the temp sending unit on top of the intake manifold, your issue sounds like possibly a bad connection on the back of the gauge cluster?
What year did you get? The 91&92 models had a problem with the cylinder heads cracking when barley being over heated that problem was fixed for the 1993 model year take a look at the transmission fluid if it's low and you can't find a leak pull off the vacuum line at the transmission modulator the transmission modulator is a common failure on these and when they fail it'll suck up transmission fluid in the vacuum lines the A4LD transmission is kinda crappy on these as well so make sure to service it regularly and try to only put non ethanol gas in it since gas containing ethanol will eat through the copper float in the tank the first gen explorers overall are great trucks just take care of it and it'll take care of you also if i I wer you I'd probably put a new thermostat and radiator hoses on and a tune up just for good measure, thank you for watching!
@@radioactive_tool_shed_8498 It's from the 93. And as you said, the transmission fluid it's exactly what's wrong with it. I already bought everything needed to fix it. Thank you so much for the tips! will definetly keep an eye on those specifically
Also I'm pretty sure mass airflow sensor failure is common on these as well. I'm about to change the one on my '94 cuz lemme tell you it runs like SHIT right now

I own a , '93 with 240,000 miles on it, owned it since '06 and the biggest repair was the fuel pump, love it.. very reliable

That’s a wonderful machine. I got one yesterday! Any tips or common failures I should be aware of? I’d appreciate
