    How did you fix the gauges? Mine is doing exactly the same. Coolant temp drops to zero at times and then pops back up to normal. And the gas gauge is intermittent and rarely accurate. What's your advice?

    • @radioactive_tool_shed_8498
      @radioactive_tool_shed_8498 4 дня назад

      @mgconty1283 hmm well in my case the sending unit for the fuel gauge always read empty it was a bad sending unit in the tank and as for the temp gauge it was the temp sending unit on top of the intake manifold, your issue sounds like possibly a bad connection on the back of the gauge cluster?

    Nice work on this old Explorer. It's cool that you can do Katskin leather on these 30 year old Fords. Katskin leather is better than OEM in a lot of applications and this is no exception (Ford leather isn't all that great, IMO). Not showroom perfect but definitely dialed in on the mechanicals and nice enough to start car talk at the gas station. You went deep into the rabbit hole and it shows. New vehicles are pretty much throw-away after 100k miles and it's nice to see someone bring an old Explorer back to life.

    My white 1993 Ford Explorer needs to have her temperature sending unit changed out because her temperature gauge doesn’t work. Also, I found out through a windshield sticker on her last oil change in 2016, that she actually has 365,000 miles, not 207k like I was originally told. And it’s spark plugs, oil, and air filter were in the worst condition I’ve ever seen. And the oil filter was loose taking it off due to it backing out because it hasn’t been changed in a long time. But after changing those out, she runs like a dream again.

Runs pretty rough atm. I'm going to change the maf sensor tomorrow and see if that helps. Then I'm going to replace the valve cover baskets which looks like a job because of all the lines in the way. It probably wont be THAT bad though. And the 4X4 doesn't work sometimes you have to get underneath with a hammer and tap the solonoid or something like that lmao. Pretty cool vehicle otherwise

Starter was loose and it runs rough right now because of old, horrible spark plugs that are covered in rust, dirt, and oil and the gap has expanded about .27 over the manufacturers’ max specification. I’m changing the spark plugs and wires tomorrow and hopefully it will run better again.

    I just bought a white 93 Explorer for $500 with 207k miles and she needs A LOT of work! The rear doors don’t open from either side, the driver’s door can only be opened from the inside, the whole interior is worn out and covered in stains, the headliner is torn, the engine needs a new battery and a new alternator, and the door panels are shot. But I’ve always wanted a first gen Explorer since I was little and I will give her all the love she needs. I love working on cars and giving them a second chance. I am planning to have her running again soon and have her more beautiful than she has ever been. Btw, she is my first car that I’ve ever bought. I wasn’t waiting around to get one because most of them are gone today and they’re still getting pulled off the road. It’s really sad. I’m never getting rid my new 93 Explorer.

      I don’t know how much I’m going to put into my Explorer, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be at least 3,000. I’ve already salvaged power seats, a whole interior, a door and fender from another junked Explorer. My parents say it was a bad idea getting my 93 Explorer, but I feel better seeing that people are saying that the V6 engine in my 93 Explorer is basically “bulletproof” and will last forever if you take good care of them. I can’t wait to get mine into tip-top shape again.
