She was truly an amazing comedian, actress, model an woman. No one can compare, not then and especially now. She is surely missed. RIP Lucy, we love you and you led the way for women.
Notice the genius of Bob Hope.. he sees that Lucy is on a roll.. and just lets her run with it. He is more interested in the audience being entertained.. than in getting all the attention. One smart guy.
Lucy’s comic timing and at ease delivery is even more sparkling in this unscripted setting. I think Bob Hope was very generous in allowing that sparkle without trying to upstage her!
She did but she would claim that she didn't. Her daughter, Lucie, has a quick, and Lucy acknowledged her daughter's wit as something that she, herself, didn't have.
I’ve never seen this interview. I never clicked so fast on a video lol. Thank you so very much for sharing. Lucy and Bob are unmatched as comedy costars.
The Original Mr. E L M E R well, the talent may be here, but they don't have that showmanship that came from working live...Bob and Lucy thrived in front of an audience. Today's talent are stiff and almost scripted on talk shows ..they have no stories or don't realize they should be a tiny bit interesting...or amusing..and they're not!
I know just wishful thinking......But to be honest, if there was a way. I don't think they'd want to come back. They've accomplished what they did here on Earth.
They had a great working relationship that started in the 1940s and is evident here in their back-and-forth! They seem to trust each other in front of an audience. Lucy knew Bob would not embarrass her in front of the camera like other comedians or interviewers would. I'm thinking of Donahue who was tough on Lucy and also Johnny Carson, who would sometimes work 'blue' and ask her when she first had sex. She even told Carson once on-air that she was always nervous when she was on his show.
Bob Hope and Lucy Ball were very funny people and really miss them both as Lucy died April 26th 1989 and Bob Hope in 2003 ! Bob was the main man of comedy but loved Robin Williams and Paul Lynde ! Lucy Ball Carol Burnette Vickie Lawence and Lily Tomlin were the women of comedy !
Barry Williams Well, not just “talent to be on TV”.. These icons ( and in the early days there were a lot of them out there), all came up from nothing. No special treatment because they were somebody’s son or daughter.Bob Hope came from Vaudeville,, Stage, Radio, and Movies all the way back from the Thirties. Lucy was the same, only no Vaudeville, no Stage shows like Bob Hope had. Both were very smart, very used to working hard, giving their best. Today, no talent exists it seems. Ok, people like Meryl Streep, Da Niro, etc, but even they seem to be gone from the scene too.
that is so funny...before I read your comment...I was just going to write that Dinah Shote may have been a beautiful woman...but Dina Shore was even more beautiful!! @@MrVidaeverdade
As others have mentioned in the comments, this was uncomfortable to watch. I've watched other clips of Lucy on talk shows, and she always seems to add tension to the discussion. Her daughter Lucie mentioned in several interviews that Lucy was not funny in real life but very stern.

Yes, I could not imagine that Lucy and Bob okayed that movie - it was THE worst movie - saw it recently - loved all the movies I have seen Lucille Ball in; and this one in the category of 1-10 (10 being the worst) did not make the scale.
never/ever cared for her hair or make-up but the women cld have been an I.designer as she had an impeccable sense of style...the clothes, colors,design.....vance on the other hand.....one of her demands for joining the lucy show as a high wardrobe budget......However, did not care much for the clothes she wore....she consistently looked as if she was attending the ballet or a symphony with chocker pearls.....
Hope did the same thing with Katharine Hepburn on the movie Iron Petticoat. A young Lucy should count her blessings. Hope and Hepburn never spoke again.
What an awkward set -- the long entry path for Lucy to have to run, then all of those director's chairs tightly arranged in a semicircle. Who was asleep that day? Bob Hope's comment about inviting Lucy to come into his trailer to "Lie down" was a nasty jab. He was known as a womanizer and this was a misogynistic insult that Dinah Shore clearly found offensive. But Lucy got back at him, suggesting that his man parts were damaged.
I never thought she was ever full of herself but perhaps it's because for so many years she was the only female executive/boss of a major Hollywood studio so some of that came across here?
It's been said by many that did not know her that she was the ultimate snob. True story, one day I was walking to the 99 cent store in Beverly Hills and a lady with red hair almost hit me with her yellow Cadillac. I think that lady was Lucy. She was a snob for not caring if she ran me over. It made me cry.
She was truly an amazing comedian, actress, model an woman. No one can compare, not then and especially now. She is surely missed. RIP Lucy, we love you and you led the way for women.
I love the flirtatious banter they have it’s just pure class and shows a pure friendship
I miss these legends, with so much talent and substance.
Two of the biggest stars on the planet at that time and both on the same set.
I always loved watching the Lucile Ball Show.
Notice the genius of Bob Hope.. he sees that Lucy is on a roll.. and just lets her run with it. He is more interested in the audience being entertained.. than in getting all the attention. One smart guy.
It’s apropos her last tv appearance was with Bob Hope at the Oscars. She came full circle. I miss her to this day. 🙏❤️
Dinah Shore was the very best. She was class and glamour, a real celebrity. We will not see the likes of this caliber of Hollywood royalty ever again!
She will ALWAYS be Lucy Ricardo! She deserved that standing ovation!
There will never be a talent as incredible as Lucy's. She's a legendary one of a kind.
Lucy’s comic timing and at ease delivery is even more sparkling in this unscripted setting. I think Bob Hope was very generous in allowing that sparkle without trying to upstage her!
Lucy had a quick wit which is part of her status as a comedy legend.
She really did!!!!!

3 amazing legends that have made the test of time, all 3 are and very funny. Fancy Pants and Sorrowful Jones are my favorites

Certainly not today with "entertainers" like Cardi B., etc.....
She had a better applause from the audience than Bob Hope and even better than the other guests.
She earned it!!
Lucy was never crude -that lady was epic -so pretty kind and funny --i love you Lucy -

Lucy looks to be actually having a good time here. (this was NOT always the case)
Why is she mean to Dinah?

Can we have them back please?
I know just wishful thinking......But to be honest, if there was a way. I don't think they'd want to come back. They've accomplished what they did here on Earth.
Lucy upstaged Bob easily...but they played off each other and loved it...it's all about the laughs... Bob got off with some great lines too.

RIP to the 2 best comedians and Dinah Shore you all were great in the day..
Sadly they are all gone now . How sad for young folks who have no idea who or what they did.

Even though it affected her health, that's not why she died. She died of a broken heart and because she didn't want to live to be old.
