Agree Tauchman is interesting and Romano is probably worth a shot if he’s got any gas left in the tank. I’m a little surprised about Badoo but I probably shouldn’t be. I’m not thrilled about Lange but I figured they’d give him another season atleast.
Going over the bigger name free agents I see several guys I think could help us that won’t cost an arm and a leg so if they are willing to spend some money we could be much better even without landing Bergman. Good show and thanks for the info I also like to know everything we’re up to even the small stuff. How ‘bout them Lions WOW!

So cranberry muffin, banana and a cup of coffee. Sandoval had his surgery in June so he could easily be back by the all-star and we could easily make him into the reliever, with swinging and miss that we desire

Let's not forget that the Tigers were the Third place team in the division. The White Sox can't possibly be as bad next year as this which drastically will change who's in playoffs next year. So that being said it's not time to open the wallet quite yet. They still have a starting rotation to get locked down first. Bats are easy to replace on the fly. Solid starting pitching not so much so without spending like the Dodgers, Yankees and that's just crazy money.

The Tigers had the same record as the Royals. They were tied for second.

Anytime I hear about the Tigers making waiver clams on pitchers now, I picture Chris Fetter, Robin Lund, and Juan Nieves rubbing their hands together and cackling like witches around a cauldron.

If Baddoo was a pitcher he's be byebye because they Tigers know they get the most out of pitchers, hitters is another story, Baddoo is somebody that could blow up in their face and embarrass them if he goes to another team, same for Baez. Both these guys have potential..

I like Alex Lange and Akil Badoo. A lot of questions there, for sure.
I like the idea of Omaha Steaks. I get a lessor expensive option though. I shouldn't mention it here, of course, but initials are GC. The mention of Omaha, here, makes my mouth water. Nice Ad choice.

The Tigers need more high velocity back end relievers
If any one can fix Lange
      It's Fetter

I don't know if its a pitching factory. They were just so bad for so long they had a good number of draft picks. Skubal is amazing but Mize has been underwhelming, Manning is gone, Faedo is eh. They have a stud and alot of 4 starters.

    Re Flores
It sounds like a similar situation as Kyle Funkhouser

Ill be shocked if the Tigers sign any of the top 15 or even 20 free agents
I have no expectations that they will
There will be no major additions in that regard
    Much like last year
Look for solid tradeable 1 yr deals
That are seen as compliments to the kids
Not a player to win a position
Because all positions are earmarked for development from within
    Have patience we must

You already have the Tigers being sellers at the trade deadline next year then? "Look for solid tradeable 1 yr deals"

Dont think Teoscar or Santander or even ONeill who makes too much sense
    Think Laureano, Carlson or Hays

Hey Tigers fans! We all need to revisit Harris' opening press conference when he took this job, and realize he wasn't brought here to spend the Ilitch family's pizza money on free agents! He was brought here to develop their organization through the draft, and spend the pizza money on retaining their homegrown talent once it's shown its ready! I fully expect the Tigers to consider Skubal and Greene extensions long before they spend big $$$ on other teams free agents. As a result, get ready for another off season of trades that part with lesser known minor leaguers for the Mark Canha-type bats, while they'll add between 3 to 5 pitchers on 1-2 year deals like they did with Flaherty, Maeda and Chafin. That's the Harris blueprint! He's made it clear that's how he does business. This is never gonna be a Yankees or Dodgers type team. It's gonna look more like the D'Backs, Guardians and Rays. Lower payroll teams that win via their homegrown talent. It's not the way most of us would do it, but it's Harris' way. What does that mean? It means we're gonna be a team that hovers around .500 most years. There will be years where we finish below .500 and miss the playoffs by 5-10 games. But there will also be years like 2024, where we finish 5 to 10 games above .500 and make the playoffs by the skin of our teeth. Unless all of our young players develop into All-Stars -- which is unlikely -- we're never gonna be a true WS contender. Everything will have to go right for us to win a WS because the Tigers margin of error will be extremely thin with this philosophy. That being said, we have seen teams like the Nats, Royals and Giants win the WS with this method. So why not us too?

Then he needs to be replaced. If you are in a mindset of "always rebuilding" you will not take advantage of success. They HAVE had a young core do well. But they won't keep them forever. If they don't use their window of opportunity it will close.
When the Nationals won the series (2019), their payroll topped $197 million. The 2015 Royals were in the middle of the league @ $ 112 mil. The 2014 SG Giants were 6th in MLB in payroll, 7th in 2012 and 2014.
THAT'S "why not us, too". The teams you cite SPENT. The Tiger could double their present payroll - including what they owe to Baez - and still be league average. No-one expects them to run with the Yankees @ Dodgers of this league. But to believe that you can always roll the dice and come up winners with league bottom spending is self-delusional.
Worse in the case of Chris Ilitch, (who's putting the words in Harris' mouth) because he's not deluding himself. The word for what he is doing is "lying".

Another trash heap pick-up by Harris.

    • @andrewhoag6167
      @andrewhoag6167 2 месяца назад

Agreed. But I really think that it's Chris Ilitch calling the tune. He's a cheap@ss, and must sell the team. Last winter, he could have Harris yammer that they weren't going to spend until they had a core, because nobody thought for sure that they had one. Now it's obvious that they do; so the excuse has had to change Now they "don't want to get into long-term contracts".
But it still translates to "I'm never going to spend; we're not going after any established quality players".
Nobody thinks they can compete with the Yankees, or Dodgers, or Phillies, Padres, etc. But it's been pointed out that the Tigers could DOUBLE their payroll (INCLUDING what is owed to Baez) and be MLB AVERAGE. Sure, they can't be a player for Juan Soto. But there are plenty of players who are not "cross your fingers & hope for bounce back / will take a one-year deal".
You can't keep getting lucky. Flaherty had a great year - and he's gone. Maeda sucked - and he's still on the roster.
