Just bought a pair of these for music listening in my living room. I compared them to the Kali Audio TP6s which I thought would suit me better because of the ability to customise the settings based on where the speakers sit in a room. The JBLs blew me away. I'm a casual listener who listens to a wide variety of music (classical - jazz/soul - electronic) and they are beautifully resonant, clear and exciting. THANKS ZEOS !
Thanks for the video, I tried the 305p mkII the sound is just amazing but I could not stand the hiss it was noticeable on quiet tracks and even 6-7 feet away... are there any alternatives with less hiss?
The changes mainly are: 1) Better waveguide, so the crossover region has better controlled directivity (better imaging and soundstage). 2) More transient tweeter (faster). 3) Better tone controls.
LSR305 here. With heavier rock, I agree, especially for bass guitar. Overall lack of detail in a treated room. Great soundstage and imaging though. Good for vocals.
great review. I came here for your opinion on the JBL's. I got that plus I learned a few things AND I was entertained! You're the Lewis Black of audio!
Now that you mention it, I really should look for "Test Your Might" in FLAC or at least 320-MP3. It's sacrilege that I still have it in just 128 craps/s.
I luv it shiny. Too dull if matted. Sounds TOPS!! I bought 3 pairs for my studio man cave. It changes the sound game. Drench the airwaves with amazing sound
Nothing says “cheap looking” like shiny black plastic. And I t always gets covered in millions of microscopic scratches and ends up looking worse, if that’s possible.
I've recently got some 305's. They are so f*cking amazing! I thought about getting other monitors because the 305's would be overkill but for 200€(!)....holy cow there is nothing else. Nothing. Period.
im digging that review. My friend have lsr 305,wee room with acoustic panels, bass traps, carpet on the floor plus curtains on the doors etc etc. Was blown away after when I heard them first time. Its exactly how you said about the head between speakers. I could point out with fingers where vocals coming from. Separation of sounds, clarity and that I don't know... stage feeling. My wife have no clue about stuff like that, but I told her just to sit for a few moments and give it a try, she had shivers and all over. Love them
16:08 That was "Te Llevare" by Tulio Zuloaga, 19 seconds in. Also have you played with loudness correction on the 305? Maybe they can compete with the Mackies at low volumes with some dsp.
I just picked up the JBL 306p mkii (on sale for $119 each, right now at most major retailers!) Do isolation pads/feet (sorbothane, etc) make that much of a difference in sound? Any reccos?
How far from the back wall does these need to be? Would the KALI-LP 6 with the ports in the front be better when closer to the back wall? Lets say 30-50cm from the back wall? What mackies were you reffering to?
Have been looking around to upgrade my JBL 305 (fed by a decent DAC and pre-amp). However, within 1500 - 2000 Dollar budget, I found no 5 inch speakers can go as deep as the 305s. Even most of 7 inch ones can go only 55 Hz. After a serious audition of a few hifi speakers that claim to go lower than 50Hz, I simply do not trust them any more. While deciding to keep my 305s for another couple of years, I felt more guilty paying only around 250 on them ... In 21st century, technology rules.
You answered every question I could have glad I am sending the Mackie's Bluetooth ones back . I just saw to many complaints about their durability. Even though they sound great. Is there any way I can make them sound better at a low volume I do have a Zoom mixer I just bought. I am disabled and getting back into recording my own music. Thanks for your input. Great Review !!!
Still can't figure out which one to buy. I wanna use it mainly for music production (so as FLAT as possible with a decent low end) and everyday uses. Mackie MR524 (369.99$ CAD) or JBL 305p MKII (419.99$ CAD) Thanks!

Hi! How are you? I just bought the same ones. They sound great, but have a lot of hiss noise, without even plugging in anything. Simply by plugging it into the power. Do you have a similar problem? can you do something? greetings and thanks! .
so glad you made another video about these. the wife is planning to buy these for my vinyls. except we're getting the 308p. my question is, what do i need to have to play them at the best quality...?
the dials under those knobs are called potentiometers or pots in the guitar world. you could probably call them pots and people would just stare blankly or act like they knew that all along
I find it funny that other people have a problem with you placing speakers upside down. I run my KEF Q100's upside down on my desk right now so I can avoid obstructing the speakers with my monitors. Awesome review Zeos

Would pairing a Micca MS10 with those be a good idea? Currently using them hooked up to a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 and am looking for a subwoofer for under $200.
I had the same problem of hearing the center channel over my head. Solution? Quadratic diffusers behind you. Also ads a bit more clarity and localisation in the mix. I have the 308p's up from the lsr 305's by the way. They are fantastic!
$99 apiece for my 14-year-old son who makes Trap on FL studio. He is super excited to have them. I heard them and they sound great, Thanks for the review.
I'm interested in what you use for room air filtration. With that much stuff sitting around and stacked on shelves, I'd have no time whatsoever to enjoy listening while sitting perfectly still to maintain triangulation....because I'd be dusting the accumulated equipment constantly.
These are often compared to the Presonus Eris e5 at the same price point as the JBL 305's. Would be great to see you do a review on those. The big difference being that the Presonus bass reflex port is in the front which is much better for those of us with computer desks against the wall.

I have a Scarlett 2i2 as a preamp/DAC for the LSR305 with my PC, pretty good because it's got the headphone out, balanced TRS out, independent volume outs, and mic inputs with phantom power. Got it used for $50, I think it's worth mentioning if anyone is considering a similar setup.
Thanks for all the info! I never thought that i would want to know more about audio and speakers. Now I own the LSR 305 (the piano black 30X from massdrop, They are crazy to keep clean.) , OriGen+ dac , and damn for around $300 for the setup I'm in love.
Instead of turning these upside down I found they need to be lower than your ears by about 2-3 inches. I have them angled down a few degree and still had to lower them more than usual. That solved the center image floating up for me.

I've had the same problems with the shiny plastic but I've easily cleaned it with some LCD screen cleaning solution and a micro fibre cloth.
