It has been such a wonderfully wet winter, although I feel for my east coast brethren who have had waaaay too much. I hope it doesn't mean another record breaking summer but I'll enjoy it while I can.
Dude!! The v brake noodle!! Good call. I was getting ready to sell a step through frame because of the soft braking. Trying this. Dope build by the way!!
I have a short ride video up on the channel too, if you are interested. The bike is very capable, a better rider could get a lot more out of it than I can. Crust Bikes has some great Susie ride footage too.
Thank you for the video of your Rivendell build! Awesome bike! I plan on getting a Gus Boots Willsen. Would you know if the the Shimano UN55 73x113 square taper BB work on that model as well?
I so agree on that name! I don't have a Susie, but I would be so annoyed with a great name on one side, and a weird AF name on the other. I did something similar with my Clem, covered up the Smith JR part with a sticker that says Clementine. Lots of fun bits on this build though, love it!
I have destroyed a few cranks extracting the threads instead of the crank arm because galvanic corrosion is a bastard. A little bit of grease and a torque wrench is best practice but I know that this is a hotly debated topic amongst fellow internet bike nerds!
Great video 🤗 I have a Susie in XL on the way to me in Norway. I am very interested in hearing your experience with the short stem on the Susie. I was thinking the same thing, and your opinion would be helpful. I am 191cm tall, by the way. Very inspiring build video 🙏🏻
Thanks! The Stem length depends a lot on your Handlebar choice. I am 187cm with a PBH of 90. The Susie is designed for swept back bars but I wanted something a lot more straight for the sort of riding I had intended for this bike. If you were to use this exact setup you could probably get away with a 50mm stem. The estimated Top tube length for this bike is 68.5 but it has converging head and seat tube angles which means the bars aren't going to be as far away as you might expect, depending on how high you want to run them. Which bar are you intending to use? What sort of reach and how upright do you like? There are too many variables to cover in a youtube comment, sorry. Enjoy your Susie, it is an excellent bicycle!
@@brendonoid6133 Thanks a lot :) I am prepared to experiment a bit with fit. I was just wondering how your setup affected the steering feeling, and how you feel that a shorter stem and straighter bar makes the bike ride. I am looking at Crust Harvey Mushman bar and Tumbleweed Persuader bar. 24 and 30 dgr backsweep. Maybe even a Tosco bar to try out that «cruiser style» ;) I am coming from a Santa Cruz Sigmata gravel bike and a Santa Cruz Hightower, so I am obviously looking for something different than that. More upright, but not leaning backwards, he, he. Thanks again! I will watch out for more videos from you :)
@@geirnordheim6986 With the longstay Rivendells I have found that the grip area at or behind the steering axis makes for the best ride. I landed on this particular setup for this reason. I was able to maintain the ride characteristics I knew I would like but still enjoy the playful control of a flatbar. It works really well.
@@brendonoid6133 Thanks a lot! I got my Susie frame on friday. Beautiful! …and I think I will try it with the same stem as you, and then try a few bars to tune in the geometry. First the Crust Harvey Mushman bar or the Tumbleweed Persuader. I am willing to experiment, and I guess I have to ;-)
the folks at bluelug in japan are going to be in the bleachers rooting for ya
Thanks for the support and enjoy the new bike! :)
Thank you for for ensuring there are still new bikes worth buying. I deeply appreciate it.
Gotta love that West Aussie Winter rain comin' in a sideways as it does!

really enjoy tour vids. Nice ride!
seminal work of cosmic significance from ❤the land down under
Literally my dream build! Now to crack the code on securing a Rivendell frame in Australia. Hmmm
As long as you get the time zones right it isn't too hard.
Mate, what a sweet build! So many nice little details, so much colour, so much character! 😁 Thanks for sharing, loved the vid, enjoy riding it!
beautiful build, I love it so much!
I just picked up the budget version (Marin Larkspur)

you have the hand skills of a Brain surgeon
Love the frame bag! I’ll be doing the same for my Gus
thank you for not putting music in this lovely video. looking forward to more
My jaw dropped with the riding at the end, after the reveal I did not expect the bike to be doing that😂😂

Such an eye for detail!
I have a wald 139 on the front of my ogre and it’s very versatile. Love it, awesome build!
Super sweet build. Loved it, you must be having fun with this!

Beautiful bike
Straight gangster! Impressive machine....
Grips are rad 😮
This thing is cute as hell
Beautiful bike, mate. Beware of the SBC Strongarm/Son of Strongarm cranks as they're well known for snapping
Fantastic

It will work, but it depends on the crank you use and the chain ring configuration to work out whether the chain line will be any good.

“One side of the downtube says Susie W. Longbolts; the other, Wolbis Slugstone-both anagrams of Gus Boots-Willsen.” RBW
15:37 come on! ❤
Great looking bike! Grease on square taper cranks? Not too sure I've ever seen that before.

I don't like the ugly plastic coloured guard thing at all. The rest is superb!
