Installing Honjo Mudguards | It was harder than I expected!

- Since Wen's bike build last year, many of you had commented that it is missing a pair of fenders for the rainy days. Rest assured, I did manage to install one during late summer last year before the arrival of British wet autumn!
It became a tad sophisticated as I went all out sourcing a very raw set of Honjo mudguards that came un-drilled (no holes), stays no pre-formed and no installation manuals! I did have a moment of regret during this installation. However, I accepted the challenge and thought I should have enough practical knowledge to make it work!
It was a fine line (somewhat ambitious) to source a 45mm width fenders to fit Wen's 40mm G-One tyres, whilst expecting no rub nor sound in the end. Determining the position of the holes relative to the bike was incredibly tedious as I only had one shot to get them right!
After a day and half of head scratching and tweaking, I finally finished with it and I must say I love the shiny silver appearance of the bike and cannot stop admiring them whilst Wen rides her Tempeh on the road.
Many mistakes and lessons learnt from this installation. Let me know if you have any questions I would be happy to answer.

Wen has one of the classiest looking bicycles before the mudguards, now it is a stunning looking bike. I look forward to more of your videos and adventures...
Thank you for the kind words, Tim! :) The mudguards will be take off again for the summer trip and we will fall in love with it all over again! 😊
@tadwenture I will look forward to your adventures..... I am hoping to build an Adventure frame up this year, love the bars you have on your bike.... may go similar way
I’ve watched this for a second time. There’s something of great beauty not only in how carefully you’ve filmed it, but also in the lovely gesture of giving a loved one the gift of a handbuilt bike - with all the adventures that flow from it.
And now you can bike pack together.
I hope 2025 is full of lovely adventures. I see you live in Bristol, so there is much to explore from home.
Thank you for the kind words, Lou ☺️ I couldn't take my eyes of Wen's bike every time she's on her Temple. A very special piece of commuter for her 🚴♀️
Welcome back, I've been waiting a long time for your new video,
Greetings from Italy 🚲🚲🚲😊😊
Beautiful bike.
Good job. 👍
Great video! Thank you. Looks great with the Temple :)
I'm rebuilding my Yuba Mundo cargobike and have been looking at Velo Orange's mudguards (virtually indentical to these). In my opinion the dual mounts for the stays on the guards themselves look excessive and.....clunky. I had considered eliminating one but was unsure if that would detrimental to the stability of the guards - thank you for putting my mind at ease, a single mount looks so much 'cleaner' 😁
Gorgeous bike by the way. Those guards really set it off.
Yea man, I was contemplating the two holes too during the installation and thought they may run very tight rubbing against the tire. I took the risk with a very tight clearance of using 45mm fender for 40mm tyre, which was very tedious to fiddle in the end. But all is well after a year of commute on it.
Beautiful work TJ X
we didnot seen long time, thanks for your back
👏👏 lovely video! ❤
Great video I wish I saw this before I installed my honjo fenders last month. Love the look of this bike with the classic silver throughout. Also what model of rear rack is that? I'm looking for something along that style.
Yo! 🙂 Hope you didn't have too much of a tough time on your Honjo installation. I was so stressed out with the hole placement and stays bend. haha The rear rack is 'Pelago Commuter Rear Rack' - Stainless Steel version. A tad heavy but can take a ton of weight for commuting and touring!
Ребят у вас получаются классные видео! И велосипеды супер!
Looks beautiful! Been looking at these mudguards for my vintage Bridgestone mountain bike build. May I ask, what tyre are you running, and also what camera are you using to film this? Great cinematography
Hey thanks for the kind words. Wen is running 40mm on this bike and with this 45mm Honjo mudguard it was definitely a push. The wider >45mm options would have been a better option but they were hammered and Wen wasn't keen about the busy look, so we had to stick with the 45mm one. She gets occasional rubbing noise when during bumpy off road riding, otherwise it works quietly most of the time during commute and touring thus far.
I have been filming on my Fujifilm X-T2 camera, pretty old camera and is giving up lately. I will have to retire it at some point and consider an upgrade.
beatufiul editing! how are the 40c tires holding up in a 45mm fender? super tight clearances!
Yea, it was incredibly tight that the high pitch rub became prominent and frequent in the first place. I had to tweak/deform it over the first couple of months and finally settled down in peace. Not ideal to go through muddy cake terrain too. Otherwise, it has served Wen well on many wet days! ☺
Who makes the bike holder? Watching on my phone and can’t tell if it floor standing or looks more like it’s attached to your wall. Enjoy your videos.
Haha, I purposely put it between the two doors to make it symmetrical! 😉 It is a standing bike holder, the make is from Lifeline. Not sure if they produce it anymore as I struggle to find it on the internet.
Thank you!
Thos mudguards are unnecessarily hazardous. There is no breakaway function on the front stay in case an object is entrained in the spokes.
If something goes in the front spokes you have a bigger problem than mudguatd stays.
Виглядає дуже гарно! Але у поле по мокрій глині і багнюці замалий кліренс все забється болотом.
Так, це правда! Ми пережили це одного разу пару тижнів тому.😆
японська багнюка не забʼється
