Nancy Wilson "How Glad I Am " "Guess who I saw today". Sarah Vaughn "Send in the Clowns" .
Dinah Washington "What a Difference a Day Makes"
Just started following. Have you done the metal and orchestra once it's where there's heavy metal and Orchestra playing together
Midnight Oil and INXS also Aussie bands. Chad Morgan passed away today, Aussie comedy music idol. Please review him
I'm not in a position to sponsor a video :-) but I am curious I have recently become enamored of Lawrence and wonder who can sing a higher note, you or Gracie ;-)
( maybe a sneaky way to hear your thoughts on here singing, lol )
Happy New Year! Neil Young is so much more than just the folk singer, he's the Godfather of Grunge, especially with his sidemen from Crazy Horse, his famous, "Old Black" named, Gibson Les Paul guitar is one of the few guitars with it's own Wikipedia page. And his extended jams on stage are stuff of legends
Neil was 24 years old when this was filmed. This entire concert is well worth a listen. Between songs he talks about his life and the story behind some of the songs.
I especially loved the song Old Man and his commentary on it. At another point he talks about why he brought several harmonicas and it's fun!
No it's not needed Neils Rock
See his eyes closed, that means he is back where those lyrics were born
Besides being one of the greatest songwriters of his era, one of Neil's greatest qualities is that his singing is very clear - you can understand every word. As for his guitar work, he can shred with the best of them but his touch on acoustic is surprisingly delicate at times. His career has been very eclectic and diverse.
Olld Man Same show Is a MUST
YES!
Thank you so much Mike. Never get tired of hearing Neil and this is one of my special faves.
Neil Young hit my soul. When one of my best friends died, they played many of his favorite Neil Young songs at his funeral. Harvest, Rust never sleeps, and Trans are my favorite albums. Check out his early work with Buffalo Springfield ("for what its worth", "Mr. Soul"). So many great bands evolved from Buffalo Springfield.
I miss Folk Music. Pure, Honest, and Intimate. Happy New Year!
Neil has been a favorite since the late 60's. His early album After the Gold Rush is a masterpiece.
Thanks! Loved you reaction.
👍💕🐕🎉Thank you!!! 😊🙏
In 1992 he released Harvest Moon. The title track was amazing.
Old man is favorite song by Neil young
Listen to "Ohio", a song about when the National Guard shot 4 students at Kent State (murders might be a more accurate description). Although it's a CSNY performance, the music and lyrics were written by Neil.
If I'm right and this was 1971 he was 26 years old. a baby! lol
Neil wrote a song called Southern Man, which drew a response from the band Lynyrd Skynyrd in their epic song Sweet Home Alabama. Well, I heard Mr. Young sing about her Well, I heard old Neil put her down Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around, anyhow,
He was always an old soul.
This is the short clip. In the longer one he spends a couple minutes trying to find the pocket with the right harmonica.
I've known Neil since the 60s. I grew up about an hour away from Toronto.
When he sings the line "and I'm gettin' old, is meant to explain that time is passing and he can't find a "heart of gold", at least that's how I've always looked at it.
grew up with this music....
Same here, dad was a guitar playing hippie. Introduced to a lot a great music from as early as I can remember
In those days, 30was old. .
Maggie, sorry I wasn't here when this first happened. I love your reaction to one of the best of his time.
Cinnamon Girl would be a good next pick from Neil
@maggiereneemusic great reaction! For some reason, even though the genre is different - something tells me you would very much enjoy Dan Fogelburg, "Same Old Lang Syne" about a holiday encounter with an old flame or "Leader of the Band" about Dan's dad. Dan has some quality of voice and the story lines are very emotive. Add a tissue box. Also... RIP Dan!
He is ONLY 25 to 26 years old here...not in his 40s!! This album was released when he was 25
The young Neil Young excelled at mournful ballads. When he joined Crosby, Stills, and Nash, he became the best songwriter in that group, which, considering the other members, is saying something.
Happy New Year Maggie. I love Niel Young and always love your reactions exploring different artists
Always good to hear this again. Thanks Mike - great analysis Maggie.
I hope Neil Young will remember, a southern man don't need him around anyhow.
Wow when you read through the lyrics like someones postem note really sets the mood how many iconic songs have you written
My all time favorite song ever....since I was 10 yrs old... heard my cousin's 8 track ....wow.!!!!
Happy New Year to Maggie and all the people in the Stream from Mönchengladbach/ Germany
Another acoustic song that doesn't get enough attention is Sugar Mountain.
I'm fifty three and I just like his songs. The first song in the rock genre that brought me here.
Ah, more good memories of 70s music. Nice reaction, Maggie:
Of "Harvest", recorded in Nashville, Young said that it put him in the middle of the road, so he headed for the ditch.
Another MUST HEAR Classic by him,, Neil Young "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" 💔
yes!
He also wrote the lyrics for "Ohio" by Crosby Stills Nash and Young.
Saw Neil 7 times 🐐
I bow to you Sensi
Young's singing improved over time. In the liner notes to "Decade", he said that his vocals on early Buffalo Springfield material had to be overdubbed line by line.
Happy New Year Maggie! ♥️🌹
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young " Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"!
David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young.
a real master
"Needle and the Damage Done" and "Old Man" and "Cinnamon Girl are other good ones, if you haven't heard already!
That takes some skill to play guitar and a harmonica at the same time 😊
Old Man and The Needle and the Damage Done are ones like this, just Neil and a guitar
Every generation thinks it has the best music 60-70s are unmatched
"It sounds like such a young voice." -- I see what you did there.
Hi Maggie, would you like to be the first on youtube reacting to a (so) MELODIC and (so) BEAUTIFUL Neil Young song? ok, COMES A TIME (Studio version or 1986 live at Farm Aid). Bye Bye
This recording is from 1971, BBC Radio Theatre. He must have been 26 at the time.
Neil Young archives massey hall show was very similar. Same time period same songs. If you like this get the Massey Hall album/cd
Can't believe I cried at the beginning I guess it's autobiographical.
Happy New Year 🎉.
Like for many bands and artists, something magical seemed to happen for him in the late sixties and early seventies. He's done plenty of acceptable stuff since then but this era is the stuff of dreams and we are too awake to write like this now :-)
Added: OK, Harvest Moon was released in 1992 which completely undermines my thesis
Cowgirl in the sand. The original and the accoustic version from massey hall
🎊happy joyful peaceful New Year 🎊
That whole BBC concert is good
Maggie.
CORTEZ THE KILLER,
DOWN ON THE BORDER,
LIKE A HURRICANE,
and SOUTHERN MAN are waiting to invade your ears.
Keep going and enjoy the music.
Which one is the most beautiful love song of the whole rock history?
a) "Nights In White Satin" by Moody Blues
b) "We're Only Just Begun" by Carpenters
c) Other (specify)
You can publish the answer on next Valentine's Day.
The album version has backing vocals by Linda Rondstadt and Emmilou Harris. Chick that one out, too please !
Neil Young is one of the most adventurous and interesting songwriters of our time, or any time for that matter. He's absolutely unafraid to go where his musical heart takes him, to the extent that he once got sued by a record company for producing a record that didn't sound like Neil Young (or the 'Neil Young' they thought they'd get lol).
He's at least partly a product of the Laurel Canyon scene that spawned in the late 60s from the hippy scene in San Francisco; they were the more country/folkie types.
This is the song that gave him the financial security to experiment for the rest of his life.
I’d like to hear your take on a sadly neglected sleeper from that era: “Farewell Song” on the album “Live at Winterland ‘68” by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin.

So sad that you have the short video, the longer version includes a prelude and he lets you see a human side of him🥰
Canada's Bob Dylan. A treasure by any standard.
Stop drinking those energy tins. If course he ain't old, he is singing a story.
This song only sounds right when Neil sings it.
If you think his voice sounds good here... same concert on BBC I think 1971... " Old Man" or the song know one know "Love in Mind" the best sub two-minute song ever...to me at least...thanks for your reaction
Happy New Year. Just an FYI ... there's a longer version of this very performance where he's messing with his harmonica's in the beginning. I think you'll enjoy it.
He’s about 25 here
React to Ronald by falling in reverse
Neil - solo on a small stage, with guitar, piano, organ & of course the harmonica is always great stuff.
A favorite while out on the trails walking the dog is streaming a 92 PBS WTTW Center Stage concert.
Wimpy wimpy grow some
He's in his mid 20's in this video
Perhaps he hurt his back "Flying on the Ground"? He should know Flying on the ground is wrong.
check out unknown legend
Hello
Sweet voice. Check out Keep on Rockin' in the Free World.
My parents and I have pretty divergent tastes in music. But at the same time we’re all fans of Neil Young. 🪕🎤
Why don't you go into this blind not knowing anything so you get the rawish reaction and then read all the other crap at the end?
Because that schtick is old and tired and nowadays informed commentary is worth more than "OMG SHOCKFACE"?
The wiki is ok but reading the lyrics first is a little much. Informed commentary on a song a person has never heard before? That's not commentary it's a watered down reaction. Come off it mate.
@@andrew348 I'd rather they admit to hearing the song before. Pretending otherwise is long past its sell-by.
Naw. I like people who have expertise to do a little prep so that I might learn something. I can go to anyone if I just want someone to sway and say, “That was a banger!”
Um. I like it both ways. Depending.
od man. needle n v damege dne
Stop the WIMPY ACOUSTIC Neil....Down By The River..... grow some
3.5 min into video video starts. Good Job wtf intro longer than vid. bye
